Degausser OZ continuing my Brand New kick but moving to this topic to not bore the random thoughts thread. Yesterday I was rocking out their first two albums but today I've moved onto "Devil and God are Raging Inside Me"....man this is different. Were fans pissed when this came out?
No, it's regarded as their best album. I think they kind of developed perfectly along with their fanbase, and everybody loved it.

Yeah definitely. They grew a ton as a band with each album imo. The album after The Devil and God, Daisy, gets heavier and more experimental. It's great too.
Degausser hit the nail on the head. If you think the lyrics are great in the first 2, this one pretty much blows those away. It has 4-5 songs that would be the best on most any album and there isn’t a weak one on the album. #5 is probably the best song Brand New ever did and the backstory makes it even stronger. Not to mention it’s pretty hard ‘rock’ or alternative. Brand New has always reminded me of a band that came out of Seattle instead of the emo New York scene.

All of this makes me sad because of the shit that went down with Jesse Lacey, although ever time I met him he did kind of come off as a huge dick. Kevin Devine on the other hand is one of the cooler dudes I’ve met. Incredibly nice to the point he always remembered who me and my friends were. Even signed a vinyl ‘to the omaha gang’ when we went and saw him and Manchester Orchestra in Lawerence, Kansas.
