Downtown is a very walkable area so as long as you're relatively close it's easy to get around. Last time I was there we found either a Groupon or something to stay at the Hotel Monaco for something like $120 a night and that was a great location because it was two blocks away from the 16th street mall/free shuttles. There's also several really cool places to eat/drink nears Coors Field but I'm not super familiar with places to stay around there

Seconded on Avanti--it's pretty badass and has great beer and food choices. Was in Denver in late September for work and Airbnb'd a place right downtown. The guy that lived there ended up knowing a good friend of mine as they went to college together. Small world. Had a blast out there. Check out Green Russell for cocktails, and Sam's No. 3 for breakfast as well. We hit up this place called Herb's a couple times for beers and live music. I didn't get a chance to go outside downtown but you should check out Red Rocks.

I concur. We've been to 5 or 6 Sandals now and we will not go anywhere else unless we head to another resort with friends or something. Other resorts were nice but some are more the party atmosphere. We just read books and drink all day. No excursions or anything like that and that's partly what makes that the perfect resort for us. Everyone is very nice, knows your name, and what you like. Highly recommend if you just want to relax on vacation. I can't speak to any excursions, although I will say people did enjoy them that went and I'd say that's pretty consistent across the board no matter where you stay at Sandals. They do a good job with that.

Price wise, we always get the cheapest butler room whenever we go. We shower and sleep in the room. With planning, airfare and tips you can get a week for about 5K.

Been to Antigua, St. Lucia and Bahamas Sandals as well if anyone has questions.

I'm thinking seriously about going to Tulum on my honeymoon in July. So many cool boutique hotels where I could book the nicest room for 1/2 what a stay in some of the Caribbean islands would cost.(not to mention the flights are cheap). Any recommendations on places to stay or areas of the beach to stay? I've been looking at:

    Mi Amor: http://www.tulumhotelmiamor.com/
    La Zebra: http://www.lazebratulum.com/
    Coral: http://www.coraltulum.com/

Also, would you recommend renting a car?

16th st mall is gross and terrible - stay away from that shit hole

I'd look for an Airbnb in RiNo or LoHi

Linger, Avanti, Euclid hall are all solid recommendations. Ophelia's is awesome and a sister restraurant of Linger. Union Station is great as well. TORCHYS

RiNo has a lot of cool bars and restaurants (Matchbox, Finns Manor, Los Chingones, Meadowlark, Ratio Beer Works, Denver Central Market).

Denver Zoo and Botanic gardens have Christmas lights and are a good time. Red Rocks is worth the 20 minute drive. Denver Art Musuem and than area is cool.

I was completely blown away by Tulum. I thought it be cheesy as fuck and tourist Mexico bullshit.

Yeah, I'd rent a car. We met a couple at a family style hotel dinner and drove our car around for a day or two to cenotes and different beaches and lagoons.

We went to the beach and drank at La Zebra one day. Seemed solid, drinks at the beach bar was good.

Mi Amore was booked so we couldn't stay there, but looks cool.

We stayed at El Pez which is with in a group of the 2 mentioned above.

There's a central part just south of where the main road comes in, South of the natl forest. Couple night clubs and decent concentration of bars and restaurants. Then further south by La Zebra is small hotels with restaurants and some stand alone places mixed in. North by Mi Amore is just 3 or so hotels and not much else. Kinda isolated.

Food there is pretty outstanding and cheap as fuck

As solo and assuming you're not really old, definitely stay in a hostel for the social aspect. Get on hostelworld and sort by rating. Then I generally look at "atmosphere" to find the ones that are going to be more social. In my experience, Amsterdam has much more fun and social hostels than London. Try to get to a soccer game when in London. I went to a Fulham game last year and it was awesome. If you're a museums guy, theres tons of great ones in London. Just hanging out in a pub and drinking beer is a great time. For neighborhoods, it all depends on what you're looking for. I really like Shoreditch, but its not super convenient if you're looking to see all the sights/touristy stuff.

Re: Amsterdam, avoid St. Christopher's Inn. Worst hostel I've ever stayed in. But Amsterdam is so much fun.

In London, the best westernized-Chinese food I've ever had was the street vendors in China Town. Simply pub-hopping to random, hole-in-the-wall places around London was the best time I had.

he covered it, but more specifically when looking at hostels that have a more social aspect, I found ones with cool bars directly in them were nice for meeting people staying at the same place. That way you can have a crew to go out with at night

Amsterdam is a lot of fun...here are some of my favorite places:

    - Van Gogh museum
    - Albert Cuyp Market (specifically to get herring and freshly-made stroopwafels).
    - eat at a rijsttafel restaurant - they're an excellent indoctrination of the Indonesian influence in the country. Pro tip - find a hostel with extra toilet paper.
    - My favorite bar is Proeflokaal Arendsnest - it only serves dutch beer and has free WiFi. Great for people watching if you sit outside.
    - If you're at a bar, snack on bitterballen - it's great Dutch drinking food.
    - Do a trip to the Hague - the Dutch parliament is stunning.

Also, I would recommend walking a lot through the city. There are tons of nooks throughout the canal system and cool little places. It's a very easy city to walk through, just be careful of the bikers - they don't give a shit.

Here is the most recent 36 hours on Amsterdam.

    enjoy.

Tottenham would be my choice to see between these 3 by far but would be the hardest ticket. West ham I can't see having a great atmosphere now that they moved to the olympic stadium. CP would be interesting but pretty sure Selhurst Park is kinda far outside the city.

Thanks everyone for the responses, some real good stuff here. Much appreciated.

I'm 27 and very social, so I think the hostel route is probably good for me. I also really don't care much about hotel amenities since I want to spend as much time out and about as I can. I'll look into the Shoreditch neighborhood and see how I like it. I of course want to get a touristy-ish experience, but I'm much more into doing some off the beaten path, neighborhood exploring type stuff. I'm very much into an Anthony Bourdain style trip...drink a lot, eat good food, and do the local cultural things with a little touristy mixed in. My thought is in London I want to be somewhat in the heart of things, but want to use public transport to check out as many areas as I can.

I'll be in London for New Years weekend, looks like my options are to go to Chelsea vs Stoke City on New Years Eve and/or Arsenal vs.Crystal Palace on New Years Day. I'm definitely going to do one, maybe both if it works out, that might be ambitious though.

This is my plan for London, drink a couple of pints and go roaming around. I'll definitely go for some street food in Chinatown. I've been to NYC Chinatown quite a lot, so I'll have to see how London stacks up.

Hostel with a cool bar sounds ideal. I'm going to be in Amsterdam Monday-Thursday during a holiday week in the dead of winter, so i'm not sure if the town will be as popping as it might be in the summer. Having a built in bar in the hostel seems like a good route to ensuring I can meet some people to go out with.

Great post, thanks. The market looks to be 100% up my alley and I'm heavily into doing the local food stuff, never heard of bitterballen and had no idea that there was an Indonesian influence there. Done and done.

I'll see if I can fit The Hauge in, i'm guessing I can just take a few hours and make it a day trip? I'm also considering a stopover for a night in Brussels en-route to London from Amsterdam.

Was just doing a quick skim of the thread since I hadn't been in for a few weeks. This may have been addressed, but I think links to the write ups are plenty sufficient for keeping track since people tend to comment on certain parts which can steer the reader toward what they're looking for.

Either way, I appreciate you compiling those in the OP. The BBQ does something similar and I reference it all the time.
