I would assume it's when you actually earn the points so you could apply now and then accrue points in January couldn't you? That's my plan so I hope it's correct.
Australia/NZ was incredible. Jetlag is still crushing me but was so worth it. Flying business class was incredible, it was an absolute game changer. Got 8 hours of sleep on the flight there. Probably will never get to fly it again but it was fun to pretend to be rich for 12 hours.
Jax Teller Jax Teller My Trip Report from Iceland. 5th or 6th post down https://www.the-mainboard.com/index...e-ups-in-the-op.120242/page-104#post-10456228
my wife and I got the companion pass a month or so ago, but haven't been able to use it yet. pretty stoked for 2017 though.
Not sure if its the same but I flew Frontier Phoenix to ATL over Thanksgiving. I had a small backpack and a small carry on. The flight to ATL didnt charge me anything but the flight back to PHX charged $45 for my carry on or it was $40 to check it.
I forgot if I posted in here that I ended up going. Trip of a lifetime. Love the Djandi (sp?) pic. one of my favorites spots.
was referring to the 50k signup bonus (if they still have that). Don't want those points wasted in 2016
Does anybody have a recommendation for super strong sleeping pills? Every time I come back from Europe/Asia I wake up at 3-4am for the first week back. I've tried taking xanax and lunesta but I still wake up and then am groggy. I'd really like some father of the bride level shit that will totally knock me out for 10 hours. Totally agree on business class. Being able to get real sleep is incredible and makes it so much easier to hit the ground running when you get to your destination.
But you only get the points after you hit the minimum spend, so my assumption was apply now but don't hit the spend until 2017.
I go to my doctor and get exactly 2 ambien for each 10+ hour flight. 1 drink --> ambien --> 1 more drink, and you will be out like a light for 8 hours. However, if you've never taken ambien before, I'd suggest taking one prior to your trip to experience the effects. Dangerous, dangerous drug.
good point, was thinking it was instant... sorry it's been years since I applied for mine. Either way, time it and get it early in 2017, cause you will get it until end of 2018, so if you get your points halfway through 2017, you'll have 18 months of companion pass
I'm fine on flights. The issue is when I get back and have to go to work. I wake up at 3am and can't fall back asleep so I'm a total zombie at the office for a week.
Ah, misread your post. Would still suggest ambien as an incredibly strong sleeping pill, but will again emphasize being careful with that stuff.
I take Triazolam (halcion) for travel. short half life so knocks you out but no real hangover. But you cant drink on it at all. Even one drink would be dangerous. I just slept 7 hours in coach with one pill and feel great.
awesome. i'll ask about it. it sounds like this might not be the best for keeping me asleep tho - im usually able to fall asleep without trouble but then wake up super early. I'm doing my Japan trip from Thursday to Thursday so hopefully I'll be in better shape when I go back to work on Monday.
When I do Asia I pull an all nighter the night before leaving. So my flight leaves at 7AM (7PM) and I stay up all night then get to the airport, board the plane, stay awake for a couple hours, booze when you're ready to sleep, then sleep the rest of the flight. Then arrive home sometime in the morning US time and it's like you just slept normal US nighttime. I am always tired that next day but tough through the day, get drunk that night, sleep like a baby, and that usually puts me right back on schedule. The key is fighting through that first night and not letting the second wind that next morning allow you to stay awake on the plane. I honestly think it's based on each specific person. I have never been affected much by jet lag but some of my coworkers are like you, they might as well not even come into work the following week.
I was fine on my trips to Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore, but Europe and India always fuck me. The flight from Japan leaves around midnight west coast time and 5pm local, and gets into Portland around 9am. I think we're going to go to the tsukiji fish market Tuna auction at 3am that morning and then stay up so we can pass out on the flight back. I'll drop mom in oregon and then fly onto JFK. We'll have business class too so that'll help. I agree that the first day is key.
Doing a complete flip like Asia for 12 hours is pretty easy for me. I get wrecked when I do like 6-9 hours though.
I'm the opposite, I've always been fine on trips to Europe, but SE Asia took me a day or 2 to get right.
That's what my flight to Auckland was. Stay up as late as you can, then take some sort of sleeping medication that will knock you out. Goal is to wake up an hour before you land then just pound through Sunday and go to bed normal time Sunday night.
Let me say as someone who works rotating shifts that the second night is the hardest to stay awake or vise versa. If you can take a little 30 min power nap that will help you the best on rolling your body. Just DO NOT FALL FULLY ASLEEP as you will stay on your normal schedule. My body is typically fully rolled after 4days of being on a schedule first night isnt a problem second about 3am is witching hour and is hard to power through. When i'm rolling off work on the second night i'll power nap around 130 and set about 400 alarms to wake up at 2 to not oversleep. Everyone's body is different but this seems to work for me.
I actually think that's perfect. My flight to Sydney left LAX at 10:30pm and landed there around 7am. 15 hour flight so just stay up and have a drink, watch a movie, eat a bit, then pass out and sleep for 9 hours.
It was great. That was one of our last days. Honestly by that time, after seeing waterfalls everyday, I wasn't impressed by waterfalls anymore. And I live in AZ. Sad but true.
Less than 2 weeks til my trip to Armenia, Spain and France. 6 days in Armenia, 4 in Barcelona, 1 in Carcassonne and 4 in Paris. It's a random trip but I can't wait.
15 until Berlin and Prague 78 until India From my minimal research on Prague, I'm likely not coming back
Sweet. Where are you going in Armenia? I've heard the beaches there are the tits. I'm going somewhere in Europe in July and was thinking about hitting an Armenian beach towns.
Unfortunately it's gonna be too cold for the beaches or probably even for Lake Sevan. The basic plan is to base in Yerevan and take day trips. My girlfriend is in the Peace Corps there so I've left most of the planning up to her. Of course there may not be much time outside of the hotel room for the first couple days...
So this is preliminary Croatia stuff, and some friends family stuff will be slotted in along the route but I'm looking at: May 2: land in Zagreb at noon 3: zagreb 4: plitvice stay in zadar 5: zadar 6: zadar/friends moms town south 7: split 8: split/krka 9: hvar 10: hvar 11-14: dubrovnik and surrounding Any thoughts?
Ive never done charleston for nye but Nashville is crazy fun. It's gonna be colder though. If you like country music I'd say Nashville in a heartbeat. Their nye concert is insane.
Charleston has a ton of awesome nye parties. But he's been there a lot so I don't have much to tell him
I've been hammered since Tuesday for my birthday guys. And hopefully getting laid tomorrow. I'll update the thread though b
There's not much to see in Split and we left immediately for the islands, only stayed for 3-4 hours. Seems to be the general consensus from what I can remember, I think. But I'm also biased towards Hvar.
Yeah I mean my plan for that was go there day 7 for the night, do krka the next day, back to split for the night. So not a ton of time there but use it as a base
Good as long as day 9/10 are good hvar days Yup I'm good Watched neighbors Nap Watched neighbors 2 Nap Watched Leicester man city Nap Watched Ghostbusters
People that have been to Iceland, anyone been in May? Looking at doing a trip at the very end of the month/ending Memorial Day and we both would really like to make Iceland work
