Solid rec. I just got back from dongdaemun and meokja golmuk. That place is the tits and we're going back tomorrow with the rest of the group.
I think London should be on your list, even if just a stop by. Also Ireland is a moral obligation for a lot of irish rooted americans so I think that keeps it high on lists.
Been to Ireland twice. It's fun and I think worth a short trip. Just don't spend too much time in Dublin. I'd probably combine it with Scotland if possible (one of the coolest places I've visited and went in not expecting much). I wouldn't have gone back so soon the second time if it wasn't for Penn State playing there.
When are you going again? I think it was before me and I was going to ask for some recs. We're there mid July. We are splurging on this place because girlfriend has been hearing about this hotel for a long time. https://hanginggardensofbali.com/
Damn, that looks great. We're not going until December. We were going to leave the day after christmas and do northern thailand, but my GF's stupid cousin is getting married on NYE and she says that we have to go, so I had to switch our trip to go from the 15th to the 30th. There were no business class award seats into SE Asia except for into Jakarta and out of Singapore, so that's what we're doing. I know it's the rainy season but apparently it only rains for a bit in the afternoon - sorta like South Florida in the summer. We'll be in Bali for 6 days and then Thailand over Christmas. I currently have the Westin Siray Bay Resort booked on Phuket, but I might adjust as it gets closer. I wanted to avoid the crowds but this place has a private beach so it should be pretty sweet.
China southern from JFK to Guangzhou, where we'll have a 10 hour layover, so the plan is to go into town and get some chow. Then flying Garuda Indonesia down to Jakarta where we'll get in around 7. Spend a night in Jakarta and then fly down to Bali the next morning - probably Garuda Indonesia again. Then we're doing China Eastern on the way back: Singapore to Shanghai to LA to Houston for the wedding. I don't know yet what my deal flow will look like in Q4/Q1; if things clear up, I'll try to push the trip to March. Better weather, way fewer people, cheaper lodging, and we can fly Korean Air bc they won't have the holiday blackouts.
what's yalls top 10 I definitely want to get to Bali and Bora Bora. SOmething about being in the middle of the south pacific or just the middle of nowhere in general on white sand beaches with clear water is just so appealing to me. Also some girl I went to law school with has been posting a bunch of pics from honeymoon in Thailand Phucket and some other place and it looks awesome.
So many better beaches and places in Thailand than phuket. But yes that region of the world is my favorite
Is it worth going to a place like that alone Arkadin? Or do you just end up super bored? I am leaving my current position in July to go to grad school. I need to burn about 3 weeks of vacation before then. I've got 120k (thanks Chase) points and that area of the world is really interesting to me to go visit. However, none of my friends are into it so I'd be going alone.
You'd be fine alone. Backpacker hostels in that part of the world are full of people to make friends with and do stuff
In the US: Charleston, SF(next week) Seattle, New Orleans (next month), Denver Non US: Japan, New Zealand, Peru (August), Costa Rica, Argentina Previously on the list but killed in the last three years: Thailand, Cambodia, Croatia, Rome (Japan and New Zealand have been on for a while) Austin, Nashville, San Diego (no idea how I haven't been to Charleston yet)
US places I haven't been and want to go Austin Jackson, Wyoming Portland, Oregon Portland, Maine San francisco/norcal World wide: New zealand Australia Vietnam Cambodia Laos Korea Japan
I know man, fuck. It's really the only reason I haven't been and have gone other places that were lower down the list
US: Big Sky country Seattle Charleston New Orleans Asheville World: Italy Australia/New Zealand Singapore Vietnam Thailand
US: Alaska Asheville Hawaii Montana/Wyoming Seattle Honorable mentions for Austin, Charleston, Savannah, and New Orleans. The first three I visited with my parents years ago but would like to go back on my own. Only spent a very brief time in New Orleans and did nothing more than party on Bourbon St. for two nights going to and from a bowl game. World: Australia/New Zealand Germany Japan Poland Thailand
some of mine I've been but not sufficiently to really count imo US - Alaska New Orleans Chicago Portland, ME area San Diego Non- US - I could go 15-20 deep here. Haven't been able to go outside the US much until starting in a year. Except for Europe or Western Hemisphere stuff. Australia/NZ - lumping to include more Singapore Thailand Vietnam Netherlands
I don't have a top ten, but here's my bucket list so far US Alaska Yellowstone Portland Seattle Nashville Savannah NA Montreal Banff Vancouver Mexico City Yucatán peninsula Europe Netherlands(this summer) Prague(this summer) Iceland(this summer) Sweden Norway Croatia Greek islands Sicily Spain Asia Thailand Vietnam New Zealand Australia
I'm at 44 countries now, so I've already checked off many of my bucket list places. I'd say on my top places list I haven't been to yet are Bali, Laos and Singapore which I'm hitting all this summer. Filling out top 10 would probably be Iceland, South Africa, Malawi, Madagascar, Philippines, Switzerland, and Antarctica.
Anyone spent any time in the Middle East? I just received a call from a recruiter about an international position in Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia and honestly know nothing about the area, much less the region. The pay would be pretty solid so I at least want to do some research before telling them to F off.
And pay should be downright ridiculous for you to entertain the offer, that is a fully Saudi city afaik, not a compound (what I grew up in)
So a direct flight from lima to Atlanta is like 900 on Delta, but a flight to Fort Lauderdale that connects through Atlanta is $400. Would it be possible to just get my bags from customs in atlanta and leave the airport? Or am I going to run into issues?
Isn't that effectively that dumping thing that people talked about on the donor board? I thought I'd read somewhere about how airlines are supposed to start cracking down and checking closer for no shows if they had made a previous connection or something but I wouldn't be the person to speak to that. Sounds like it'd be worth it to me
Don't do it if you have tons of miles to take away from you If they ask you can just say you had to drive to Gainesville anyway so you decided just to go from ATL
Yea I think only taking the second leg may cause problems, but it seems like only taking the first leg should be okay, especially since i'll have access to my checked luggage at customs after the first flight.
It's fine, there's really nothing airlines can do about it to passengers so they do stuff like sue the creators of websites that exploit it. skiplagged is one example
Can they/do airlines impose a no-show fee? I've never heard of them doing it but it sounds exactly like something airlines would do
they could do it to repeat offenders who abuse it, but if you dont have a return ticket and you just "miss" your flight theyre not going to do anything. it's been debatable if they even can
I think you'd just need to say that you were really sick and couldn't continue flying, then just decided to drive.
Railay, Krabi, Phi Phi, Samui, tao, probably lots of others i dont know the names of Ive seen some pretty badass resorts on phuket which ive heard are great if thats your thing. but if you like to get out and do stuff, phuket is like the thai myrtle beach
