What is the sightseeing stuff that is a must do in Paris and what should I avoid?

Because their fuel surcharges are some of the highest in the world.

Try finding award availability through American then using British Airways to book it.

I use Kayak but have found it is worth double checking on Priceline or some other site. Sometimes a good deal on Kayak leads me to a great deal elsewhere

Louvre is a must. Certain days they stay open late and its good to go then because you go later in the day and don't have to wait in a long line.

interesting. I was told by a friend it is one to avoid. I am sure most of it has to do with when you go.

Did you hop a flight in between?

I might add Chile to the list and spread out the time. Santiago is supposed to be cool, yeah?

Feel like that is pretty bad advise, maybe he just had the worst experience ever but the Louvre is pretty incredible if your into history at all. Not sure if this is still a "secret" entrance but when we were there 4 years ago somewhere in my research I stumbled on someone talking about a "secret" entrance near the lion statues(sure you can find something if you google it). Can't remember where exactly it was but it was pretty awesome as there was not one person there, thought for sure we were going in some kind employee entrance but they had a security check point and everything. Probably saved a couple hours as the main entrance line was crazy.

Thats a solid change then. Everything when I was flying down there was on old shitty planes with no entertainment.

This is an aviation geek site, so I trust their list pretty much, but it's good to self-check by starting the booking on the carrier site or kayak and checking the flight details for your travel dates.
Also handy to check the aircraft type against any press releases from the airline, because there are a lot of new products and cabin refreshes being rolled out. A lot of traveler photos you will find are a few years old and those interiors have a good shot at being redone if they were pretty gross.

I have an inflatable, so it's pretty easy to change the inflation based on how you feel. Far from perfect, but I like the adjustability

My buddy let me borrow his pillow for my trip to Korea. I don't remember the brand, but it was a thick memory foam material that had a snap in front to keep it from moving. It was actually really good at keeping my head supported. Only downside is that it was kind of bulky.

Definitely need to see the Louvre as well as d'Orsay. If you're into Monet L'Orangerie is very good as well, and much smaller.

Montmartre is my favorite part of Paris, especially Sacre Coeur.

Unless you're really into history or have a lot of time to spend, I don't think the trip out to Versailles is worth it.

I just came to the thread to post RE: these destinations.

I'm currently throwing together a 2-2.5 week trip for this July (I know, last minute).

Right now, the best I've found, and you should check it out, is booking a RT to Mexico City (from your home; Southwest is dirt cheap) and then booking a RT from Mexico City to whereever.

Currently, I've got Lima (Cusco & Machu Picchu the targets) for 3-4 nights, then BA for 3-4 nights, and Rio for 5 nights. Flights still $1400 for all of that but I've still got another 5-6 nights I need to allocate to flights to smaller cities.

I read the OP on the reviews from bamanug and gator about those places. Anyone have any day trip/overnight recs around those cities? Iguaza falls is on the list already

EDIT: Going through Mexico City saved me $500+ with the same overall flight structure

Avoid the Louvre wut? It's freaking incredible. Don't want to call your friend an idiot, but ignore him on this one.

I didn't even like Paris that much (minority opinion), but loved the Louvre.

This is what I'm currently looking at but I'm wanting to extend the over all trip through July 15-16 (just sometime that weekend). Suggestions on places to go around these main stops? (Lima, BA, Rio)

Im not telling you anything you don't know, but that's a hell of a lot of traveling for such a short trip.

I don't know if you could fit in Lima--Cisco--Machu Picchu--back to Lima in 3 days, then to the other side of the country. You'd spend a lot of that time in transit.

I'd maybe do only Peru, or only BA and Rio. I've done both, and each was a separate 10-12 day trip. Room 15 can probably provide insight, too

I also highly recommend doing a 3-4-5 day trek to MP rather than just Cusco to MP, but understand time constraints.

No personal experience, but I've hear horror stories of people booking through Mexico City with long ass layovers. I guess the area around the airport is really dangerous, and people venture out for a few hours and end up getting jumped and stuff.

Yeah, we aren't really planning on leaving the airport in Mexico City. We have a 22 hour layover on the way back but it was the only thing I have found to save all that money.

I could add another 2-4 nights in Peru to make that happen. I would like to do Peru during the week. Rio definitely around a weekend because I've got several Brasilian friends that are going to fly up and party with us. With that, we won't have a language barrier as they're all multilingual.

Word. Assuming you could add 3-4 days, you could potentially do:

    -5/6 days in Peru
    -4/5 days in Brazil
    -4/5 days in BA

I can certainly help with Peru and BA. Never done Rio.

I would give MP 4 days

    1: get to cusco
    2: get to aguas calientes
3:Machu Picchu and return to cusco
    4: fly back to Lima.

And that with spending no time really in the city of Cusco itself which I thought was pretty cool.

Heading to Lima tonight and can give some info on that after I'm done.

First time I bought a flight from Santiago to BA for like 150 and it was still 400 cheaper than flying direct.

Second time I went from Santiago and headed south.

Not a huge Santiago fan, especially when I compare it to BA. But I absolutely loved Valparaiso which is an hour bus ride from Santiago.

I also really, really liked Cusco itself. I understand time constraints, but you can spend 2-3 days there and. Have a blast. And judging from his posting history, I think 47 straight is a degenerate like me and thus likes to have too much fun.

I also really liked Lima. Interested to hear your thoughts.

And Rio is still arguably the best place I've ever been. It's unreal.

And just pointing it out, but if you get altitude sickness, your itinerary would be fucked. Cusco is HIGH, you notice the elevation immediately---like Breckinridge or Vail. I don't think many people get affected, but my friend got it and was straight out for 2-3 days. Just something to keep in mind

Yeah, I should be fine. Slightly concerned that one of bros will be apt to get sickby it as he isn't immune to sickness like I am.

My recent trip to Vail is a great equivalency for my own confidence. Vail is 8k (same as MP) and Vail summit is 11K (same as Cusco) so I don't think I'll have issues with the sickness. I'm also unwilling to take the Diamox due to it making all carbonated beverages taste like butthole. I'm unwilling to sacrifice my enjoyment of beer so I'll be munching on coca leaves

    Short answer:
But she was going back to Australia after Myanmar, so after 8-9 days together we parted ways. I've still spoken to her every day, but I'm a deviant, unfortunately.

She was the cover girl on some Estonian magazine, and is apparently some sort of semi-model in Estonia? I'm still in love. Trying to get her to come trim weed out west and move in with me in Seattle. I just have the self control of a middle schooler.
