Can confirm #1 and #2. Going to Lucerne (#4) this summer. I've heard Zurich sucks so was surprised to see it up there. I also think Munich at 38 is way too low. It almost seems like they're ranking the livibility of these places. Singapore is a great city but it's not the best for tourism. I'd love to live there. I've also never once heard someone talk about how cool Seoul is, but I'm sure that it's a very clean and efficient city to live in.

It seems very situational. In this case, I'd give him the visit. However, I will be in Guangzhou, China later this year and will have an 11 hour layover. We're going to hire a local tour guide to pick us up, take us to some spots and then take us back to the airport. I don't think that I will feel comfortable claiming that I've been to China just because I had a few meals, took a few pics, and crushed 14 beers in Guangzhou.

Had your buddy laid over in Okinawa or something, I don't know that I would give him the credit.

Maybe I just wasn't crazy about the priority pass lounges because I've only been to them in the US, but this Aspire lounge in London Gatwick is great. Plenty of seating, not close to full capacity, full bar sitting on the counter for self serve to go along with full breakfast. Kind of glad we got to the airport super early because the gf has read all these bad things about Gatwick now

I actually really like Gatwick... Much more than Heathrow. That said, it's been a while since I've used it. LCY is probably my favorite, however.

Well obviously if its the best b/c of location but its the 5th smallest in London metro, priciest, and from US I think only standard operator is British Airways from New York. Not really useful compared to bigger airports unless youre based in London and flying to continental europe.

Anyone been to Colombia recently? Was ready to head down there this week, but a few friends have frightened me a bit by saying how dangerous it is. Was thinking of doing Bogota, Medellin, and Cartagena.

I think, in general, South America is more dangerous and shady than Europe or Asia. Having said that, it's not like some third-world country (continent?)---be aware of your surroundings and don't be a dumbass and you'll be fine.

back from my 2 week trip to Paris, Prague, and Amsterdam.

    Paris:

    • They shut down the secret lion entrance to the louvre, but went down under the arc de carrousel and only waited 10 minutes. Was really cool but exhaustingly gigantic.
    • Ate so many baguettes and croissants. Loved seeing people just walking home with baguettes and munching away.
    • If you go and have a nice day, spend it in the Luxembourg Gardens and at the Rodin Museum, which was really fun and cheap.
    • Make a reservation at Les Papilles if you go and thank me later.
    • Loved having an air bnb by the latin quartier. Might stay there again if I go back.
    • spent many a nights just drinking wine and eating cheese and escargot. City was especially fun the night of the election.

    Prague:

    • City center is really touristy. Are other nearby cities like this? I want to go to Hungary and Austria and hope that the center/historic cites haven't been turned into disneyland.
    • Still, loved wandering the back streets of the city. Drank a ton for cheap almost every day.
    • Food was amazing here, big surprise. From Burgers to pho to breakfast to goulash, loved everything I ate.
    • Really liked how each park had a beer garden. Spent a lot of time drinking with a great view being that the outskirts of the city center are elevated.
    • City center sucks on weekends so I spent Saturday in the lower part of the city and stumbled upon an amazing market with 100s of food stands.
    • Underrated city for cool coffee shops.
    • Found making reservations at pubs just to drink annoying.

    Amsterdam:

    • Van Gogh museum was the bomb. Highly recommend to anyone.
    • My favorite city overall. Loved meandering through the canals and people watching was better here than in Paris.
    • Ate so many fries and so much gouda.
    • girlfriend loved FABO.
    • loved the singalong bars and the pub scene in general. So many old bars.
    • Redlight district was a fun place to go out at night, but I really enjoyed my time in Oud-West and De Pjip. Where I would advise people to stay to get a more realistic experience.
    Europe generally:

    • everyone was really fucking nice and accommodating to our language difficulties.
    • found it odd how bars/restaurants were sponsored by beers and that was the main beer that was served (Amstel bars or Heineken bars in Amsterdam).
    • everything I ate was almost always a slam dunk.
    • Can't wait to go back. So many choices.
    • 3 to 5 days in a city is enough depending on the city. Did 5 in Amsterdam and Paris but 3 in Prague. My rule of thumb is 1 day for tourist shit, 1 day to walk around as much of the city as possible, and 1 night to get really fucked up. Liked hitting several cities and countries on one trip.
    • I learned I cannot sleep on planes, which sucks.

I can relate to this. My family is Colombian and whenever I go they insist I don't go out alone past dark. I always laugh, and then head on out.

But there are really shitty areas (especially in Bogota and Medellin) where you couldn't pay me to go to. But no tourist would even think of going to those places because they are literally shanty towns.

All that being said, don't be a dipshit and you'll be fine.

yeah, it's pretty clear where not to go. like dont be white/an obvious tourist and get off the cable car in the favelas at night, etc. the areas you will want to be are super safe. cops everywhere and they're really dedicated to tourism, as they know they need the money.

Walked around Reykjavik a little tonight to get our bearings. Awesome little town, our AirBnB is in a great location a few blocks away from the main shopping/eating area. Had an Icelandic hot dog for $4 and it was tasty

    What’s in them?

What sets Icelandic hot dogs apart is that they are made mostly from Icelandic lamb, along with pork and beef. And, this isn’t just any lamb, pork or beef. This is organic, free range, grass fed, hormone free - pick your positive metaphor - Icelandic lamb, pork and beef. The sheep in Iceland literally roam the countryside until the fall eating berries and leaves. Pigs and cows in Iceland live on small loving farms in one of the cleanest, most pristine environments on Earth. And, the hot dogs are made with natural casings so they have the ‘pop’ when you bit into them!

Thinking of two weeks in Australia/New Zealand. I can get tickets for just under $900 for November. Is two weeks enough time to see both places? Seems like a pretty pricey place to stay/travel to. Is that an accurate assumption?

Could this trip be done for 6-7 grand? It seemed like Airbnb places averaged around 140-160 per night in the cities. Seems really high.

I don't think its enough time to see both. In December I did 10 days just new zealand south island and wellington and it wasn't enough time i felt. I didn't find New Zealand to be that expensive. 6-7 grand seems like plenty of money. I think besides flight I spent maybe 2-3k in 10 days.

The time frame is what I was afraid of. Got back from a two-week trip to Paris, Rome, and Florence last month so vacation is tight. Might be better to wait until I have at least 3 weeks to spend in that area. I'd hate to fly all that way only to feel rushed or like I'm missing out on a lot.

I'd also caution you to temper your expectations about Pizzeria Bianco. It's not bad by any means but probably a bit overrated at this point. It's definitely not the best pizza in Phoenix anymore.
