Made this purchase a couple years ago and it’s been great. Took some time to learn Lightroom and get some really solid pictures
I’ve been to some sketchy places and never felt more unsafe in my life than the historical parts of Bogota...like “i May get stabbed and robbed in broad daylight at any moment” sketchy.
Lightroom is awesome and it's helped a ton with my pictures as well. Im trying to be more conscious on trips of shooting during the golden hours in the morning/evening. This dude has my dream: http://instagram.com/michaelmatti
what are the sites that will go through your rewards points and book travel to save you points/money? i cant remember any of them
Yeah i saw that article but i feel like there have been some recent innovators since 2014, but i couldnt find any.
(A) is Lightroom an app you use with the camera? (B) does it have a LCD screen? Couldn’t tell in some pictures I scanned—if not, it says WiFi, is that to like view your pictures on a phone or what?
Lightroom is an adobe product that edits pictures. It has an lcd screen. I am a complete novice when it comes to cameras. Basically learned and taught myself enough to take and edit pictures well enough that I think they’re good, and so do my friends and family. I’m sure an actual pro would rip them apart. From everything I’ve read and heard is don’t skimp on the lense, that’s what really helps with getting great pictures.
Lightroom is just used to edit photos. They have an iPhone app (free) and a computer program (10 bucks a month). Allowes you to under/over expose images, and alter the highlights/shadows/blacks/whites. Basically like makeup for your photo to clean them up. This is a photo I edited in Lightroom before/after. Not changing a ton just cleaning it up. It's a lot of guess and check: D3300 does have an LCD and the wifi is easy to use. You download the Nikon app and you can transfer photos right to your phone quickly.
Emirates has a one-way, business class flight from Ethiopia to NYC for just $1,500. 24 hours, 3 hour layover in Dubai. I'm pretty set on my return flight being first or business class, just don't want to fly 24 hours in coach from Africa to the West Coast. Can't imagine an Emirates business class flight getting any lower than that. I can cover the rest of my flights with points, so would just be out-of-pocket that $1,500. Might jump on it this weekend.
Any of you familiar with Los Angeles or know if there's an LA thread? Couldn't find one searching. Looking at doing a long weekend there in January
I live close to LA so pretty familiar, but best place to check out is Southern California thread https://www.the-mainboard.com/index.php?threads/official-southern-california-thread.120358/page-12
Do y'all get paralysis by analysis issues when trying to find a place to stay? Maybe not as bad b/c most here stay in hostels, IDK....but damn it takes me a few days of finding the area then the hotel/airbnb/etc/etc
I definitely do this. I do most of the planning when we travel (hence my post above yours about going to LA) and picking the place to stay is where most of the thought goes
Took me like 5 days to settle on an Airbnb in Buenos Aires yesterday. Fucking looking at subway stops, monuments, etc.... Show wife "meh whatever is fine" Just booked Rio "DO THEY HAVE A HAIR DRYER!!!! IS IT SAFE!!!"
Fuck it, whatever. in 7 days I'll be lit af on some edibles taking off from ATL and ready to pass the fuck out on the plane
LA probably induced the most travel paralysis of any trip I've planned theres just so much shit to do cutting the list down is tough
b/c I procrastinate. Shit, I just did my visa last week. Got it yesterday. It's also not a massive peak time so bunch of options
Nah. I'd like to keep the right to cancel/change flights so they're more than welcome to fix an honest mistake
5 year anniversary coming up in May and the wife wanted to do something with a nice beach. Been searching about every day and came across a solid flight to Cancun. Non stop on the way back to RDU so that sold me on that. Have done Cancun twice in my life though, family vacation about 15 years ago and spring break while in college. Really not interested in that type of vacation any more. Decided to rent a car and drive down to Tulum for the first 4 days. Staying at some really tiny hotel right on the beach and just going to explore the ruins, cenotes, and other cool things around there. Last night going to drive back to Cancun and stay at Live Aqua. I really don't enjoy all inclusive places but this place is Adult Only and looks super nice (better be for the price). It'll be fun though just to veg out for one day and try to drink and eat my $500 worth.
Went to Tulum 2 years ago. Hated the idea if Cancun and was nervous about Mexico being cheesy in general. Tulum was awesome. Really blew me away. I've got a solid review ITT for some places around Tulum and 15 minutes north or south.
Tulum is on my short list as far as NYE spots, flights to Cancun around that time are still affordable. If I end up booking it, I'm coming back to you with questions.
Have stayed at 2 nice resorts between Tulum and Playa Del Carmen. I was the same on my skepticism prior to going.
Tulum is cool. If you were going longer and wanted to go inland as well, Valladolid is an awesome town too.
If you get the Hyatt credit card your sign-up bonus can be a free night in an all inclusive in Cancun. Not sure if you play the credit card game but I'm going that. I got two nights
Room 15 do you recommend anything for eating in La Paz? Like a certain dish? About to head to lunch, and going in blind. Today is the first day here, as we had a 10 hour layover in Bogota yesterday (went to the Museo de Oro). I think we're planning on grabbing lunch and doing the walking tour starting at 2PM first. Then, we'll probably come back, get ready, grab dinner and just walk to a hostel bar and see what's going on there.
Umm...nothing that is a must have. Maybe papas rellenas - fried potatoes stuffed with goodness. can get them in the markets. There's a big market that you'll go through on the walking tour where you can get them, and fruit juices/smoothies for like $1. I'd recommend some maracuya (passion fruit) juice.
Ate at a place called “The Steakhouse” before the tour. Big mistake. Huge meal. Pic below of the main course (4 courses total, and it’s for 2 people). Had to make the pic extra small to post from phone.
Edit -- Looks like we're going to pass on the fucking salt flats due to the GF being a giant pussy having altitude sickness. I'm about to head out alone so she can sleep, and think I'm going to swing by Loki La Paz Hostel, as it's pretty close to my hotel. I'd go to Wild Rover Backpackers Hostel as it's top rated, but it's like 0.6 mile walk. Similarly, the microbrewery/hostel, Adventure Brew is 0.7 miles in the opposite direction.
I’ve only been to Bogotà, but saw more hot chicks in a McDonald’s there than the entire Bolivian female population
Logistics didn’t help. We had a flight tomorrow at 7am and return flight that got us back at 9PM tomorrow for a cool $560 before purchasing tour, or do 2 overnight bus rides as our night of sleep. I’ve not had a normal night of sleep since Tuesday, so that wasn’t appealing for me. We’d have done it for sure if the same flight was available for Sunday. Oh well.
Had some street meat tonight. Vendor made me eat it next to him. It was almost Thai tasting with extra potatoes . Pretty good. I went there because every local was going to the guy. However this guy’s food looked better, however.
