If you don’t think you’ll drink enough to break even, you’re better off paying for drinks individually. We got drink packages on our cruise a couple years ago and I’m pretty confident it paid for itself within a couple days. The freedom of being able to walk up to the bar knowing it was already paid for helped me relax during the trip since I wasn’t worried about money at all on the ship. Gotta do whatever’s best for you.
So Cape Verde probably went from a hundred people searching it to a few thousand. Only person I've ever seen go there is the Once upon a Saga guy who is going to every country in the world.
All the bars are about 80% hot women. All of these women are prostitutes that look like normal gals. It wore on me a bit. We also got, shaken down by police within about 3-4 minutes of arriving at the beach. They said we had drugs and searched us, basically trying to get a payment out of us, but nothing was on us, so we were good. Take those 2 things and kind of make it into the vibe of a city, and the people who like those things are very attracted to the place, so to me, it had a pretty seedy feel. Manuel Antonio is nearby there and amazing, would highly recommend.
and I went on a Sunday-Thursday, had a lot of fun, met no hookers, had a great time and even came back the following sunday to have more fun
Met no hookers? Wtf? How is that possible? We literally asked everyone we spoke to where we could find non-hooker girls to chase. Everyone said, literally, the only ones who weren't are working at the bars. Granted, we eventually found some backpackers but it took a while. But yes, listen to ohhaithur before me, as I last went 5-6 years ago, so I'm sure it's changed a bit.
No no it's the same now during busy times as weekends bring out the shitty tourists and thus the hookers and drugs. My hostel was 10% full so the hookers didn't bother. Only tourists were out. It was funny, I saw the hookers surfing, just living normal lives. I kinda never thought about what they do off the cock
So I'm going through the Global Entry application process because I have not applied for it yet on my CSR (already had pre-check prior to the card). Has anyone had any issues with having both numbers and still receiving pre-check? My brother had some weird issue a while back when he first got Global Entry; his pre-check number messed up the system or something and conflicted his Global Entry so for a while it wasn't giving him pre-check at all
Do you have any suggestions on where to stay for Cinque Terre? I found a website someone posted earlier in this thread about day trips from Florence but we will likely be flying out of Milan so I was thinking of doing a couple days here after Florence before going to Milan
No specific properties but Monterosso is the biggest of the villages and has the beach, Vernazza is also nice.
Trying to plan my first trip to Hawaii in February. For the dates I have in mind, it seems that Oahu (Honolulu) has quality hotels for much more affordable prices. I don't know much about Hawaii but have been told by one person that all the islands are great and you can't go wrong. Is this true? Is one of the islands much better or worse than the others or will I enjoy it no matter which ones I pick (maybe a tad more of less with a certain island but overall I will enjoy any of them)? I understand that Oahu is probably the most touristy/commercialized. Am I making a mistake if I pick there for my first trip? I can fly to Maui for the same price and Kauai for about $150 more both direct. The only problem is that for the dates I want to go the hotels/resorts etc are very picked over and the ones left are like double or triple what I would pay for a higher quality place in Oahu.
Flights between islands take about an hour. If you’re going for longer than a week, do two islands. What are you looking for / who are you going with? If you want to lounge in luxury with a best friend, go to kuaui. If you want to maximize adventure, go to the big island or Maui. If you want a compromise between the two, go to Oahu. Oahu is the busiest island. Hawaii is bigger than all the others put together, and has significantly different feels depending on what side. Maui is more country and local, so is kuaui. All four have similar but completely different vibes. You could ask five people and they’d give you five different answers. You’ll still get “Hawaii” at each one, but if you’re looking at resorts, then keep in mind that the resorts on Oahu, except turtle bay, are much more small scale city than the other islands.
Any of the islands are great and I don't really think you can go wrong. I'd say Maui is the most touristy, followed by Oahu. If you get outside of Waikiki, Oahu isn't as touristy, but if its your first trip, you most likely want to stay near Waikiki. Kauai is definitely the prettiest but also the quietest and more expensive.
Yo. Started off in Bangkok. Loved it. Great food. Loved riding on the back of a motorbike to get around. In Chiang Mai right now. Did the tourist stuff like visiting a few temples and did an elephant show and ride. Was around downtown last night Heading to Krabi today for a few days then back to Bangkok for a few days. Big fan of Thailand would come again. Chinese tourists are the fucking worst
Just wait until you get to the water. None of them can swim and they all wear life vests and will take 400 jumping pictures on the beach
When we were at one of the temples there was thing cool thing me and a few others wanted to take a pic of. There’s roughly 12 of them taking a group pic. Makes sense, given they all had smart phones, that they take just one or two photos and send to everyone in the group? Nope. The dude taking the pics is using every single one of their phones. This process took even longer because the other dumbass Chinese people there were walking directly through their pics with no regards whatsoever. I’ve taken it upon myself to ruin every single Chinese persons picture going forward Felt pretty bad for them but I enjoyed myself and got a sweet painting that one of them drew for my mom for Christmas
Is there anything in Bangkok I need to do before I leave? All I’ve really done is eat, go to the mall and Asiatique because the dutchess was working all day when we were there Going to the grand palace for sure
Ive been rude as hell to quite a few clueless/rude Chinese tourists. As soon as you make a little scene they more than accommodating.
Go to China town. Hit up a rooftop like the Octave. Muay Thai if you haven't done that anywhere else. Thonglor is a cool neighborhood. Should experience Khao San road as it's the crazy backpacker hub
When southside and I were in pai Thailand like right before we got there some Chinese tourist lady was walking around pai canyon taking pictures. She was looking at her phone screen and not the ground and fell off and died
This is my first time Asia and I’ve only been to England, Canada and a resort in the Bahamas (which really doesn’t count) and I’ve gotta say I enjoy the general lawlessness that I wasnt expecting nor had I experienced before The driving, people parking blocking others peoples cars, people pushing said cars out of the way, etc
Get ready to spend all your free time and money going forward on chasing the travel bug. Once you start to see how awesome it is being abroad there's no going back.
Planning a one week trip for me the the girlfriend in late May: Zion National Park or Glacier National Park. Excuse me for not reading through the 235p of this thread, anyone been to either and have any suggestions?
Scott's Cheap Flights sent out some really cheap flights to Colombia (Bogota and Cartagena). Getting really close to pulling the trigger on Cartagena. I'll search through the thread for write ups, but really trying to figure out how much time would be enough. Anybody that's been have any advice?
