Today is my last day in Kauai. The island is so overcrowded, it will probably be our last time here for awhile.
Hawaii is tough on vacations shorter than two weeks because of the crowds and pace of living. You gotta give yourself time to take it slow.
I’ve been. There were times through Kapaa that were close to as gridlocked. Yeah, we did 8 days this time. Probably should have done a few more. thanks.
You travel thread types have some recs for caribbean honeymoon options? Gonna be going in mid November for 7 days. Thinking St Lucia, Antigua, or maybe Grenada, but I’ve never been to any of them so a testimonial or 2 would be much appreciated.
Mostly chill with a side of outdoor things to do- don’t need crazy hiking, but something to get off the resort would be preferred. All inclusive is assumed. Budget is 10k or so but cheaper would be cool
had a friend go here and said it was the best "resort" style vacation he ever had, it's expensive but under your budget unless you go big baller suite http://www.hermitagebay.com/rates
Just google carribean yacht charters or a specific area like "bvi yacht charters" there will be a wide range of stuff available but you can get a nice yacht with a skipper and a cook for 6ish grand for a week or so
Update on this. I have to admit, I had a pretty good time in Detroit. Not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. I couldn't get to even half of what you offered on this list but I did make sure to do as much as possible on it. I did enjoy the Eastern Market area though I think I would have enjoyed it more had the weather been warmer and I knew what I was doing. Stopped by the EMBC for some beers and met some solid people. The Coney dog was good but I think I agree, a bit overrated. I went with American mainly because I didn't even notice the Lafayette sign right next to American due to the dark colors. Didn't get to spend much time in Corktown aside from running the St. Pat's 5k (spur of the moment decision late last week) and then watching some of the parade. I loved seeing people out at 9:30am grilling out and slugging beers while they tailgated for the parade like they would tailgate for a football game. Brought a tear of joy to my eye. Checked out the Ford Piquette Plant and that was pretty neat to see. I thoroughly enjoyed it as it wasn't intimidating at all. A simple museum with amazing old vehicles, basically every single alphabet model that was made by Ford. I am not a major car buff but I know my Dad is a bit of one and I know he is going to love the pictures. Finally, made sure to go with the pizza you suggested and while I still don't quite understand what "Detroit-style" pizza is, it was one of the best pizzas I have had in a long time. Nothing too crazy, just good as shit pizza. I went to the original Buddies and got the Detroiter and it did not disappoint. Going to go fat man style and enjoy dinner on my company's dime tonight and then dessert will be the leftover slices from there. #NoRegerts My one "complaint", if you can call it that, is the roads are absolutely terrible once you get off the freeways. Dodging potholes non-stop. Thanks a lot for the help, man! It was greatly appreciated. tl/dr: Detroit is pretty solid. People nice. Pizza good. Roads full of potholes.
Detroit is fine if you have to spend time there. However, if you are going to pick a city to visit in Michigan, Grand Rapids should always win, unless you're looking for professional sports.
Doing a 11 day cruise around the Mediterranean in November. Fly into Rome and out of Barcelona. Here are the cities where we are docking: Naples, Italy Messina, Italy Valletta, Malta Cagliari, Sardinia Granada, Spain Almeria, Spain Valencia, Spain Palma, Majorca, Spain Provence, France Any recommendations would be appreciated.
I know. Detroit has infinitely better food, music, nightlife, art, culture, sports, etc. Grand Rapids is pretty nice compared to Lansing, Saginaw, and Flint, though.
knowing your reputation in the music thread, i'm hesitant to believe anything you say with respect to the arts. saying that detroit has infinitely better food, art, and culture is utterly ridiculous. grand rapids is a nicer overall city to visit than hulking, rusting detroit. detroit as a regional destination is very low on the list. sorry
I'd love to hear any argument for how Grand Rapids has a better dining, music, or art scene. You can't make one because there isn't one. It's as silly as me saying Detroit can compete with Chicago in those areas. I don't say that because it can't.
you really have no clue about grand rapids background in the arts? ArtPrize is one of the top art festivals in the world. get out of your detroit bubble, pal. and first and foremost we are talking about a better city to visit. on sheer quantity of options alone detroit will overwhelm other more regional cities, but in terms of quality of experience it can't compete with grand rapids. it's a green, walkable city, with superior infrastructure, great venues, fantastic food, better beer, better transportation options, nicer people, and less areas that you have to avoid than detroit. i have been to detroit probably more than any other midwestern city and its come a long way, but it's still not there. grand rapids is a model mid size city, where swimming pools aren't created in the streets every time it rains. fuck, i'd rather go to traverse city than detroit
Like you with Detroit, Ive been to Grand Rapids. I like it. Its nice. I never said Grand Rapids had no art, bad food, or anything like that. But it's not in the same weight class as Detroit. It's a cute little city to drink craft beer and be around other white people (much like Traverse City). I like both, they have a place in this world, but I don't find either all that interesting from a traveler perspective. Detroit is, even if barely.
I’ve been traveling a lot lately something like 14 segments in 12 days and drove roughly 1000 miles in 5 of those days. It’s wrecking my body. All the sitting is fucking me up. Pro tip, certain exit seats on Delta have less padding and are akin to riding on ply wood. My ass is killing me.
When I went with my family we went to Arenal, Monteverde, and Manuel Antonio. Monteverde and Manuel Antonio were better imo, but all three places were pretty awesome. What kind of activities do you want to do?
Exactly one year ago I was in Varanasi, maybe the coolest fucking place I've ever been. Would go back to India in a second Spoiler
