About to board a flight to there now. I am excite. Bought for Shaghai in Dec a few months ago. Then found out about the $200 visa and mailing in my PP.
It seems really cool. Made brief friends with a sri lankan restaurant owner in Zagreb. Him and his brother were traveling and loved Croatia so they stayed and opened a place. Hit him on the whatspp every now and then I don't think really anyone knows they fought like a 30 year civil war that ended relatively recently. Country seems amazing
Anyone have an iguazu falls hostel rec on the Argentina side? All these look the same to me Room 15 PJP3 BamaNug Where Eagles Dare
I didn't do a hostel, stayed here: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_R...erto_Iguazu_Province_of_Misiones_Litoral.html Highly recommend, it has this restaurant inside it--one of the best meals I had in Argentina: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaur...erto_Iguazu_Province_of_Misiones_Litoral.html
I was thinking iguazu would have a bunch of travelers so it might be a cool place to meet some people for a night but that place looks good too
It's pretty tiny, no bars, but there might be some life at the hostels. I had just finished 5 days in Rio, and was going for another 5 in BA, so I caught up on some sleep. Go to the little park where you're at the border of Argentina-Brazil-Paraguay. Pretty cool.
TC keeps asking me what we're going to drink in uruguay/argentina and I keep telling him "everything" but he seems worried about it so everyone let him know it'll be ok
I stayed on the Brazil side in a shit hotel near the airport since we had a super early flight the next day. Didnt go into either town.
Fucking everybody drinks Fernet, it's pretty good. It's a light liquor you drink with coke. That and herba mate, but that's non alcohol. Decent craft beer scene.
Unbelievable amounts of cheap red wine. Fernet is terrible IMO. BA has several good craft beer spots (1516 was my favorite in Palermo)
I must have missed that and am not happy with myself. When are you going? Is it too late to tag along?
Also in montevideo get some grappamiel. It’s a honey flavored booze, drink it over ice. Very Uruguayan
Ahh, I remember now. I will be in Japan during those dates so couldn't join. But definitely keep me apprised of future trips, especially to not-the-normal places like South America.
Philly trip coming up with wifey from Thursday-Monday Searched for a Philly thread, and can't seem to find one on the board. Know there was one previously, but no idea how to get it again. Current plans, if you've been to Philly feel free to chime in with yay/nays or things I'm missing. Researched everything on Eater, Thrillist, TripAdvisor: Eats - Pretty pumped about this spread. Dinners are bold, others are lunch/brunch Dinic's Vernick Federal Donuts City Tavern Franklin Fountain Jim's Cheesesteaks McGilligans (watching OU game @ noon Saturday) Oyster Bar South Philly Barbacoa Double Knot Drinks Monk's Cafe The Franklin Bar Hop Sing Laundromat McGilligans (watching OU game @ noon Saturday) To-Dos Museum of American Revolution Walking Tour Independence Hall/Liberty Bell Eagles game Sunday
Just make sure you get to Barbacoa early. You're kinda rolling the dice if you want to watch the game at McGillins. There aren't a ton of TVs, and you may have some 24 year old shithead throwing the touch tunes on. Tradesman's, Field House, Fox and Hound all suck, but they are close options to watch the game if the novelty of McGillins wears off. You won't get a reservation at Zahav now, but there are bar seats. Abe Fisher is another option if you're dying for Israeli food.
i was checking online and calling for months trying to get a reservation, and it kept saying 'no reservations that far in advance' apparently it's right about the 2 month out window, cause I waited until about 1.5 months out and tried again and it was all booked up needless to say we won't be eating there and they are dead to me cause their policies are shit and i'm sure the food isn't that good anyways (things I tell myself at night)
thanks, maybe I don't need to risk it. Here are the list of places I was told for possible game watching: city tap house stats mcgillins cavenaughs south philly tap room misconduct fados I'll be staying at Kimpton Palomar hotel in Rittenhouse, and will actually be in Old City on a tour until 11:30 or so (game is at Noon), so could be fine in either area. As for Barbacoa, planning on going between 9-10 am, brunchy tacos ha, figured that would get us them
I'd go with Cavanaugh's, South Philyl Tap and/or Misconduct for OU game. Slim is right about McGillin's - can be touch and go depending on the crowd. You can't go wrong with very many places in South Philadelphia. Also, would highly recommend Han Dynasty, Vetri and Amis. I'm also very fond of dive bars and there are some great ones in Center City: Oscar's, Bob and Barbara's, and Doobies to name a few. Order a citywide special and enjoy the people watching. Very underrated place that normally has great beer is Jose Pistola's.
Cavanaugh's Head House is your best bet if you'll be in Society Hill. Go to the upstairs bar and you'll be set. Shouldn't be all that crowded. There's also a dive called O'Neal's around the corner that does food specials and will give you a local experience.
thank you. probably should have prefaced that I am 31, & traveling with a 7 month pregnant mama that can't drink with me, so the full out party scene is not going to be our ideal scenario haha
There are so many European companies in the Charleston area now with the auto makers and Boeing and Bosch etc etc. Guess they're just counting on that.
Seems to match up with some of their recent moves. Niche tourist cities in America. They made a big deal about their New Orleans direct last year.
