    People, historically, are idiots

People are more likely to buy a shirt that says "$20, originally $50" than they would buy the same shirt if it was priced at $15 from the start

The entire Uber, Stubhub, Airbnb world is based around this mindset

And to add, it's almost not worth it anymore because you don't get all the amenities and service of a hotel. Because the price difference is pretty negligible now, I'm more inclined to pick the option that will have a front desk, can answer any questions/complaints I have, etc.

Stubhub is the worst. The number they show you when searching for tickets is absolutely meaningless.

touching back on the cleaning fees it got real annoying searching airbnb finding a "good deal" then opening it to find the fees make it more expensive than a nice hotel next door

I was part of a beta test they did three years ago with fee-in pricing and sales dropped noticeably. People say they want the convenience of knowing the price at the end but they buy more if they get screwed

JC Penny went away from sales and coupons and just had low prices across the board...lower than if you had a coupon. Lasted two years and the CEO got fired over it.

People would rather pay more and think they're smart

Going to tulum over Christmas. Anyone have some recs? Just gonna stay at a resort all inclusive. Do not want to make a single decision there after getting through peak season.

You've already booked? Didn't know there were any all inclusives in Tulum, but there are a bunch of massive ones in between there and Cancun.

    Do you have a car?

Haven’t booked a place yet just flights. Haven’t rented a car, if we did a hotel was going to rely on the shuttles to get us from the airport

Tulum is a tiny little town. Don't think they have many all inclusive resorts.

Most are two story boutique style hotels.

A car isn't really necessary, there are cabs, but we got out and explored each day to cenotes, a big lagoon, ruins and a pretty dope beach/fisherman village off the beaten path.

We met a couple and chilled with them a day or two. They didn't have a car and we drove them around.

Currently lying in bed in a 3bdrm airbnb across the street from the Duomo in Siena. My kids have their own rooms, we can stretch out and make our own food, all for much less than a hotel (not that there are any in this neighborhood).

Airbnbs's were great in Italy. Are you heading to Venice at all? That's one city where I've seen the locals and people dislike Airbnb quite a bit; we didn't have any problems or anything, just have read stories that they hate it because it takes up living space for locals

Damn. Downside to not planning ahead. It looks like, at a minimum, it would take around 2-3 business days to get it from AAA. I leave Friday at 7:30 am so I'll have to save it for another trip.

  29. AptosDuck

No plans to visit Venice. Wife was there in 1990, so she's seen it, and I have no desire to fight the crowds. We did have a downstairs neighbor open her door and give us the evil eye as we humped our luggage up the stairs here. We're a pretty quiet bunch, though, so she needn't have worried.

    Florence tomorrow
