It's gotten significantly worse lately with the way the economy is. All of the banks have their doors locked and it's 1 in 1 out with armed guards at the doors for the people who need the actual bankers. The currency is bouncing all over the place

That's nuts. I remember reading about a huge black market for American dollars and most places would let you buy things in USd.

Yeah you can still use usd a lot of places but the black market doesn't really exist anymore from what we were told. Our tour guide lady on the walking tour was basically like "please give me usd if you have it, our currency sucks right now"

At the casino in Puerto Iguazu...Argentina side...they don't even let you gamble with Argentina money. It needs to be USD or Brazilian. And they won't chant it. I found that odd

I don't know where I want to go around the 4th of July. Either Southeast Asia, somewhere I haven't been in South America like Bolivia/Peru, or maybe the Balkans are the current leaders. Need a good Scott's deal to make the call for me

I spent the 4th in Anchorage last year and likely will again this year. While it was awesome being able to play golf as late as I wanted, I did miss out on the fireworks. That said, would recommend

Will be in the US of A this year. I have learned to maximize time in the PNW during the summer because the winters are long and sucky

I'm determined to do Banff/Jasper at some point this summer for a long weekend. Will be my third summer up here and I still haven't made it up there, no excuses. Still trying to decide whether to drive or fly--It's approx. 10 hour drive or cheap 1 1/2 hour flight to Calgary + 1 1/2 hour drive.

    So far the plan is:
Land Thursday, drive to Waimea, stop in Poipu for lunch. No dinner plans that night. Ishihara Market for poke at some point

Friday -- Polihale beach, get dinner/food in Hanapepe or somewhere close

Saturday -- Awaawapuhi trail, stop by Waimea canyon on the way back. Drive around the island up to Hanalei, have an awesome airbnb there

Sunday -- explore Hanalei, have reservations at Bar-Acuda that night.

Monday -- fly out at 6:00 PM, so probably wake up late and hungover, grab a big meal, maybe one last stop in Hanalei

Getting from place to place was cheap, food and drink was cheap, lodging was cheap. Uruguay is a little more expensive but they're super progressive so got to pay for it somehow. You also get 10% off at restaurants when you pay with a card so that's cool

Looking for some advice here, trying to get to KC early Saturday AM for the Chiefs game using AA miles. Found a 12.5K one way but it leaves Friday evening from GSO to CLT then next morning CLT to MCI. I checked that CLT to MCI flight alone that morning and it’s 20K one way, for the same flight. If I skip the first leg in GSO and drive to CLT in the AM, which is what I wanted to do originally for the 20K flight, will it work? Or by missing first leg will I not be able to get on at CLT?

Looking into a family vacation in Vail next thanksgiving. I’ll be skiing but the rest of the family doesn’t care so much about that, just wants the shopping and picturesque hotel, ice skating, Christmas decor, etc.

Any hotel recommendations? Marriott, Hyatt or Hilton rewards programs would be great, but not a requirement. No price limit yet.

FYI that's a time of year when it's hard to predict snowfall in parts of the Rockies. I've skied in Vail the weekend before Thanksgiving and it was decent skiing, but there's no guarantee real snow will be on the ground. This year from what I've heard the snow has been great, but last year (winter 2017-2018) it was pretty bad. I was in Vail the second weekend of November 2017 and there was no snow on the ground whatsoever.

We'll be joining the Vietnam wave around the first of May for two weeks. Lyrtch BamaNug rezy or others who have either been recently or researched, our initial thoughts are arrive/depart from HCMC, and then Dalat and the area around Pong Nha-ke Bang National Park as they seem to have most of what we look for in a vacation (hiking, canyoneering, rafting, etc). When we do beach stuff at all it's usually for a few hours at the end of a day when we've done something near a coast. We'll probably do an overnight cave expedition in the National Park. Thinking we'll probably add a day in one Hoi An and/or Hue since they can be on the way.

Any other spots you guys have been or read about that fit our type/locations? We're strongly considering a trip to Angkor Wat on the way out since we didn't go when we went to Thailand and may not be back in that part of the world for a few years.

I only went from Hoi An to the North, never explored the South. Hoi An is being touted as the best destination in Vietnam, and it was OK, but was a little underwhelming for me. They do have amazing suits for super cheap (wearing one right now). But definitely Hoi An > Hue. Heard amazing things about Dalat. But Vietnam's beaches aren't up to the standard of Thailand/Cambodia/etc., in my opinion. Maybe because they're directly on the ocean versus being protected in a bay/gulf?

Have heard amazing things about the caves, and wanted to do it but ran out of time. If you're going to do the South, 100% do a Mekong Delta tour.

Having said that, I think the North has more to offer than the South. I think flights in/out of Hanoi are comparable to HCMC, but could be wrong--probably depends on where you're flying from. In the North you can take a bus to Sapa, Ninh Binh, Halong Bay, and still have easy access to Hoi An/the center. Hanoi is one of my favorite cities in all of SE Asia, for what it's worth. It's like a SE Asian New Orleans (which makes no sense). From your posting history over the years, and your love of hiking, I would strongly recommend Sapa -- it's just a crapshoot with weather, so you could get bad luck.

I believe you and I have had several exchanges re: Angkor Wat, and each time I've strongly suggested it. Fly in one afternoon, do Angkor the next day, fly out the following morning.

Hanoi is way better than Saigon as a city but I think more international flights go into sgn. And you should definitely do Angkor. I missed it my first trip to Cambodia in lieu of going to the south, and after going back a couple years ago, I went and realized I should have done that originally.
