Spoilered for length. He's of the same ilk as Duterte, Erdogan, etc.
    https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/19/opinion/brazil-rain-forest.html

You're not going to find an article where Bolsonaro pulls the trigger, or directs his military to go scorched earth. But he's destroying the Amazon at an alarming rate without any concern for the tribes that have been there for 1000s of years. What he's really doing is similar to far-right wing leaders across the world destroying the environment for profits. But 1000s of tribes live in the environments Brazil is destroying.

And that's a completely separate issue from his jailing of political opponents, his police and military beating the shit out of political opponents, and encouraging students to film teachers espousing anything that's not pro-Bolsonaro

My viewpoint is me not visiting a country hurts the working class long before it hurts the presidents pockets.

It's a fair argument. Like I said, I won't judge people for going because I'm not sure I'd be above it if the opportunity arises. But I understand completely when others don't want to go because of the shit going on.

I moved a work meeting from Sao Paolo to Buenos Aires last year because it was short notice and we didn't think we could get visas in time. Nice to know that's not an obstacle anymore.

But treating the country as business as usual helps leadership immensely.

The joys of geopolitics, it's hard to hurt the people causing the problems without hurting everyone else.

Surely there’s a way to visit the country without treating it as business as usual.

I don't endorse the bad. But things like us killing civilians in Yemen hasn't caused me to move and there hasn't been any shit in Brazil yet that makes me want to bail on somewhere like florianopolis. Lots of those people need money

Not doubting you but certainly didn’t get Duterte or Erdogan from those snippets. Seems like people are scared, but not a ton has happened yet.

I’ve been following it pretty closely, he seems closer to Trump (blowhard without a ton of overt action) than either of those two.

Man business class is such a game changer. Solid food, full bed, got 7-8 hours of sleep. Expedited check in, fast pass through immigration/security, and great lounges.

Off to Bali, really enjoyed Hong Kong but wish we had more time to explore. 16 hours just isn’t enough time. Went to Tim Ho Wan for dim sum. They have a Michelin Star and are literally in the basement of a train terminal. Was amazing.

Everything about travel has been fine until we are boarding from Iceland to go back to the states. Everything is going exactly as it has every other part of the trip except I’m now surrounded by Americans bitching about everything.

It isn’t any different from when I travel domestically.

It isn’t any different than the travel I did in Europe. Europeans and Asians weren’t bitching.

Americans can’t shut the fuck up about how bad this process is and I hate all of them

If you can’t see the different between venting on a message board vs loudly complaining in the line at the airport I’m not sure what to tell you.

Especially when bitching about how you’ve never had to take a bus from the terminal. We are going into O’Hare who literally does that exact thing

Look forward to how you like Bali and if it seems horribly over crowded.

Can't get a good grasp on if it is over crowded or if people just crying about it used to be no one there and better

Joes Stone Crab is a staple. Lucali really good pizza, but thats more midbeach. Los Fuegos at Faena. Mercato dela Pescharia. Upland. Juvia. Quality Meats. Alter. Yardbird. Larios in south beach. There are also a bunch of good south american dives in South Beach, I liked Parilla Liberty and Cafe Charlotte (but Im a sucker for Argentine food).

If your staying downtown then u can walk to pretty much all the bars and restaurants, The Green Pig Pub is pretty good spot and that’s like a quick walk from the Temple which is how I orient myself downtown......if you want a nice meal with some ambiance for SLC try The Copper Onion

Thanks. I’m in Downtown. I’m going to walk over to Epic Brewing for a beer or two.

From what I’ve read that you have to order food to get a drink at most places. Is that correct.

xec do you live here as well?

I was like you prior to going with shit like Duerte and Islamic extremists that are found on the southern islands. But I didn’t find it sketch when I went, Manila was kinda crummy but Boracay was chilling. Same vibe as Thailand just less tourists (still plenty), would like to go back and visit Palawan.

Leave tomorrow morning. Obviously had a great time with the Auburn beatdown.

Went to Epic, Poplar and Red Rocks. Although 4.0% beers suck in general I drank a bunch at the games, so probably a good thing.

The ice cream lines were really long and beer lines I was able to walk up and order. I think I was the only person drinking in my section. Well at least the first few rows.

Salt Lake has several microbreweries that produce close to 9% beers. My favorite right now is Big Bad Baptista, a stout. My second is a coffee stout called Son Of A Baptist. Both are brewed by Epic.

Epic was really good. First thing I googled after I booked my room was where Epic was located. One of my favorite beers is Big Bad Baptist. I did order Baptista which was awesome.

Yea, Manila can be skipped. WW2 era fascinates me so Corregidor Island was a highlight of my time in Asia. I have to go back for work in a few weeks and may do Bataan. That’s not for everyone though.

The mass of people, traffic, homeless, stray dogs, canals overflowing with trash, hotels with armed guards, etc. It’s pretty shocking at first. It’s like Jakarta and India combined.

But like anywhere else, you settle in after a day or so.

Still the craziest subway/train system I’ve been on in Asia.

I loved the Bazaar at SLS. My girlfriend went back a year later w/o me and was so-so on it. Also enjoyed the half-price oysters and champagne in The Dutch at the W.

If you feel like venturing outside Southbeach, El Carajo between Coconut Grove and downtown was my favorite meal in the area. It’s a tapas and wine bar hidden behind a gas station and they just crush every dish. I think we ordered upwards of 15 courses by the end of the night and were getting super deep into the weirder parts of the menu.

Berlin by a mile for me. Have been to Munich, Hamburg, and Berlin; and just a few hours around Frankfurt but wouldn't say I've really visited.

Budapest easily out of those 3; but mainly if you're looking to party.
