Re: Germany, it kind of depends on what you're looking to do. If you want history and "Bavarian" Germany, then Munich is probably best for that. Berlin has a lot of history and some amazing museums, but is also super modern because the whole city was rebuilt after WWII. You're not going to find the castles and vistas that the country side provides.

But I loved it because of the party and techno scene, which isn't for everybody. It might be lower on other's list due to that. But it's also the biggest city in Germany so there is something for everyone; but the size can also be a turn-off to some people--it's fucking massive. It's a top destination in Europe for me.

Berlin was pretty awesome in regards to history and attractions.

Food wasn't great outside Doner Kebab

German food is pretty meh across the board. Pretty stereotypical meats and sausages. Beer is pretty damn good. Have not been for Oktoberfest, though; and have heard they water down their beer to keep everyone from getting out of control.

but a quick 45 minute train ride and you get to Postdamn and a massive estate of Fredric the 3rd (I think).

    It's massive and pretty incredible

You could probably get a pretty good champignonrahmschnitzel in Bavaria, though.

Spent a few days in Berlin and Munich. Liked both, liked Berlin more for the history.

I'm partial to Vienna, since that's where family is. Liked Prague almost as much, very charming. Liked Budapest the least. Actually, Buda is probably almost as charming as Prague, but Pest across the river is just another bustling city with too much traffic. I'd recommend the Hotel Victoria, on the Danube, across from the Parliament building. Big floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the river. Short walk to the funicular that takes you up to the Fishermans's Bastion and Castle Hill.

I'm very much in the minority, but Prague didn't do much for me. I had fun, but I felt like I was in disney world. Maybe because I was there immediately after Christmas and the markets were still up; but it all felt so superficial and uber-touristy. The bone church about an hour outside of the city was my favorite attraction.

Hey, does one get in trouble if they book a two leg flight and then not get on the second? For some reason, doing a multi-city (PHX > Newark on Friday, Boston > PHX on Tuesday) costs 609 while doing a round trip to Boston (PHX (layover Newark) > Boston on Friday, Boston > PHX on Tuesday with the same flights, just adding the layover + connection to Boston) costs 314. 1) wtf, 2) do I get in any trouble for not making my connecting flight?

I did google the question after posting (classic) and they suggest that they'll just cancel the rest of the itinerary. That would certainly be annoying.

Ah, I didn't catch that it's on your way there. It only works if you're skipping the last leg of your itinerary. Otherwise yes they'll cancel any remaining flights

First-time European traveler looking for some suggestions on cities to visit during a 3 and a half week trip in July. First half is planned with friends joining me (Barcelona, Prague, Hvar/Dubrovnik), but they will be leaving me in Hvar halfway through and I will have about 14 days of solo travel after that. I'm thinking about saving Greece/Italy for a separate trip with a female. From Croatia, I would like to start making my way back northwest to hopefully end up in Amsterdam for 3-4 days before flying back to the states. I'm looking for another city or two in between that will be easy to meet fellow travelers, party, and sightsee. Any advice would be appreciated.

I did end up booking that flight, but out of curiosity, one way to Newark was 177 but there was nothing (one cheap Spirit flight excluded, fuck them) below 272 out of Newark/NYC airports/Boston. Good thought though.

Any recs for a maximum carry on size travel backpack? On the cheaper end would be better, but not something that will be shredded after one trip.

manufacturers (at least in the USA, w/ our flight regulations/standards for measurement) do a good job of labeling as such. Marketers are historically terrible at this, but even without an official stamp or badge, I've found it easy to shop w/ that in mind.

If you don't see it, remember 45" total.

vs "I want a carry on that I carry on my back" which is what I have and is linked below, its a great bag

Definitely fine with utilitarian...I'm basically looking at this vs some osprey bags (Porter, fairpoint, Ozone).

My wife bought one. They seem like a massive waste of money. For 250 I don't see how it is really any better than another roller bag.

I also dislike hard cases with zero outside pockets

It's more fuck you airlines for making everyone bring on their bags.

If they took away that fee, you'd see a drastic drop in carry-on luggage.

I don't have a problem checking on my way home bc Atlanta always has delta bags on the belt by the time you get there.

I had another TravelPro roller bag that did not have 4 wheels to roll standing up so that was a major upgrade. Never used the outside pockets anyway, I have a messenger bag always that would keep any of that. I like the way it’s divided into two sections well, it doesn’t waste much space inside compared to others I looked at

Friend invited me to visit him in Boulder CO this summer. He'd only have a few days to chill and I might want to stay longer if I went out there. What's some other stuff to hit up as a solo traveler out that way? Not a seasoned outdoorsman so wouldn't be doing any camping or anything by myself

I'm not a boulder expert but these things come to mind (if you have a car)
    • tour CU campus, on of my favorite
    • day hikes in adjacent NP/NF
    • Check out Denver
    • Get some of the boulder vibe by checking out the mall/drag
