True, I just also like to hear about others' experiences as it can be helpful in the planning process.
Is there anything I must see in Baltimore? Be it sightseeing, restaurants, bars, whatever. Will be there for a wedding at the beginning of November for a long weekend and probably have all day Sunday and parts of Friday and Monday free. I've been there a bunch of times over the years but was either pretty young or there for a sporting event or something. Never really had time to actually explore the city.
I think their harbor is supposed to be kinda cool. Not really in season, but try to find some blue crabs or at the very least some places that have highly regarded crab cakes
Meh, Inner Harbor is like a shittier Fisherman’s Wharf, not worth a trip. Fells Point is a better option, Bertha’s is tourist trap-y but at least local and decent. Camden Yards is a great stadium (plenty of good seats available, too).
I hit up a few spots in Fells Point when I was there for the PSU-UMD game 4 years ago. Eating seafood and drinking is not a bad weekend.
I either talked to travelers down there or read travel blogs. Happy to answer questions if you have em. I only did day hikes though so don’t have many answers for the multi day hikes

Have been scoping a Phillipines trip as well but I don’t know shit about it other than some friends in Seattle that are from there
No, I've just been massively busy since getting back. I only was in Paris for 2 days but man, I want to go back. Just a quick rundown on my trip: Flew Delta One to CDG. It was on the "dreaded" 767-300 although who really cares. This was my first time in first on an int'l flight. It was really nice being able to sleep threw the night and land at 8:30 am feeling well rested. Stayed in the 11th. I liked how it had more local feel than touristy. First day was spent just walking around and stumbling onto beautiful buildings, statues, etc. Just set out to walk with no destination and stopping in every bakery I passed. Second Day I got a museum pass and just jumped from a few different museums. Started at Musee D'Orsay which was incredible. Then Musee de Cluny which was alright. Got to the Louvre around 6 pm and was out of energy so I didn't stay too long. My only regret is that I don't feel like I did the food scene very well. Found a good pizza place with fresh Italian ingredients the first night and settled for a random Japanese the following night. I just popped into random places where I was and just grabbed something. All in all, not bad for a not planned out spur of the moment trip. Paris is a beautiful city.
Palawan is the place to go, I think. Beaches are supposed to be amazing. Skip Manila. I’ve been a few times for business. There are some redeeming qualities if you’re into history (Corregidor, Bataan, etc) so if you decide to go for that reason or others then stay in Makati. The Peninsula Hotel is my go to there. I use Grab and just tell the driver to take the Skyway to/from the airport, avoids a lot of traffic. I took the train a decent amount the first time I visited and it was pretty wild. Most hotels have guards with guns, car bomb checks, etc. You get used to it pretty quick though. Be careful with the water. I was careless the first time and it messed me up. Never been sick in India but Philippines got me. People are nice, there’s a decent amount of English and the food is pretty good.
I work for the airlines so my flight cost me next to nothing. Pair that with 3 days off and wide open flights to Paris and away I went.
BTW, that penultimate paragraph is a classic: ‘Went to Paris. Ate Italian and Japanese. Doesn’t feel like I did the food scene very well.’
Looking at making a Labor Day trip to the east coast and we may have a night or two in Charlotte for positioning. Is there much to do that could make a couple days enjoyable there?
if i could get free or extremely cheap delta one tickets i'd be flying halfway around the world even if it was just for 2-3 days
if serious or not. I see a couple breweries there that I forgot about, just had no idea if there's much else going on
Just stayed at St. Christophers Inn in the RLD. Pretty decent. Had a bar downstairs that was packed every night. Easy to meet people.
Just got back from first Europe trip. Had a blast. Mostly touristy stuff, but I enjoyed it. Highlights London: went on the eye, tower bridge looked cool, double decker night bus tour, Thames River cruise, Tower of London tour, changing of the guard, museums etc. Big Ben being under construction was a bummer Paris: Eiffel tower at night was my favorite sight of the entire trip, we stayed about a ten minute walk away and went each night. The Louvre was cool seeing the mona Lisa in person, ate frog legs and escargot for the first time. Amsterdam: hands down my favorite city we visited. I'd move there right now if I could. Really liked the architecture, lifestyle, food, friendly people. Went on a swing at the top of a lookout, supposedly Europe's highest. Canal tour, rode bikes in the park, Anne Frank museum. Loved bitterballen and all of the fries and fresh stroopwafels. Gonna be hard not to visit every time I'm in Europe from now on. Berlin: had my highlight experience of the trip driving this little Trabi car around the streets. Found it on trip advisor and it was a blast. The Brandenburg gate at night was beautiful. The German Russian museum was really cool. It was a bit out of town, and for the most part we were there only two there. It was eerie at times walking through where they have kept some rooms the same from ww2 era. I turned a corner and they had this Soviet era stained glass with the sickle and Hammer that sent a chill up my spine Chisinau, Moldova. Gfs home town so we did mostly family stuff, but I enjoyed it as well. Went to a huge underground wine tour that was pretty cool. A good change of pace from a super busy 2.5 weeks.
really close to pulling the trigger on 10 days in Amsterdam/Belgium and that post isn't helping the virgin atlantic business class redemption at 100k for direct round trip flights to amsterdam I assume will go away soon since everyone else has demolished their award chart
Check out the Charlotte thread on here. The airport sucks as you'll taxi for a bit then sit there bc they never have a gate ready. Aside from that Charlotte can be rpetty solid depending on what you're going for. Plenty of breweries, a theme park, and, my favorite, the White Water Center.
Posting from Luka's Lodge right now; just checked in, had to do a quick work call, and going to the bars/dinner after this.
Posting from Yosemite Lodge right now; just checked in, drinking a lemon ginger ale on my patio staring up at the Falls
Not as exciting as most people here, but leaving for Summit County tomorrow morning and I cannot fucking wait. Staying in Dillon, which is fine, but can't wait to venture up a random mountain with some substances and relax for the first time in a long time.
Check out the Charlotte thread. There’s enough breweries alone to keep you satisfied for 2-3 days. Maybe head to Lake Norman for a day. Plenty to do.
ohhaithur Connor Norman and anyone else with experience, can I get an idea of what two solid weeks in Colombia might look like to you?
Just pulled the trigger on a flight to Munich at the end of October for 8 days. I’ve been before but it’s been 15 years and the wife has never been. Anyone have any experience on doing Munich for a few days then heading up to the alps for most of the week, then back? Kind of feeling that more than the Munich, Vienna, Prague, Berlin circuit. There’s also a sleeper car to Venice that could be interesting but I’ve heard not great stuff. Did a search but could t find anything exactly on point...
Current discussions are that we might be heading to Buenos Aires for work this year for our annual meeting. Next year would be back to Japan. I am excite if it works out.
