Ambien... I want ambien for my upcoming trip to Bali.

How do I get it? I don't have a "regular" doctor. Haven't been to one in 4 years. Can I just roll to a minute clinic in CVS? It's not a narcotic. Will a Doc at a urgent care give me some? I just want like 4

I've done that once a few years ago -- told them I only wanted to sleep on the plane, and they prescribed me only 2 ambien. Was super convenient.

Haven't done it since, just use edibles now. Like you, I don't really have a primary care doctor or anything. I would think an urgent care would be fine. Talk to some junkies and see which ones open up the 'scrip pad.

I went to a family doctor back when I lived in Alabama. I'd be in your shoes if I tried in Seattle, would just have to find an urgent care.

I think if you're professional and explain the situation, they're not gonna alert authorities or anything. You're asking for such a small amount, I wouldn't think it'd fall under drug seeking behavior.

People can do weird things on Ambien. You don't want to wake up in handcuffs after the plane had to make an emergency landing in Honolulu because you were swinging from the overhead compartments after groping multiple flight attendants. Try some Xanax and a glass of wine.

Not totally sure if NJ can take a straight on swell direction, but Friday is going to go off on the east coast.

This report for S NJ is pretty clean... Big. Long period hurricane swell, and offshores

There will be some places in Rhode Island that will probably break better. They seem to go off on absurd hurricane swells

Where is a good place to stay in Miami for one Sunday night in October? Have an early flight and have to drop off a rental car at airport on the Sunday.

Ok, for my Belize trip I have been put in charge of the Ambergris Caye portion (Friday - Sunday). Anyone have any suggestions on where to stay? AirBnb or hotel? I have read the comments from others about taking the plane instead of the ferry to the island, so I will be looking into that. What about getting around the island? Rent a golf cart or something? Any particular places we should eat or drink? What about anything in particular to do? The lady friend has her snorkeling license but I do not because I am boring and lame.

    • Snorkeling doesn't require a license or certification, but diving does. I have mine which played a big role in choosing Belize/Ambergris. I've never had to rent snorkel gear because I own my own mask/snorkel for diving purposes. I would highly recommend snorkeling at "Shark Ray Alley". I believe an outfitter/tour operator will have to take you there, since its too far to swim too. Worth the price of admission ESP if you aren't diving.
    • Someone provided a good reply above to your original question about belize re San Ignacio - all of that info I strongly second. I took the municipal (national?) bus line from Belize City to San Ignacio for something like $12. I could have gotten there faster or nicer, but it was nice to travel as the locals did...interestingly enough, it was an old US school bus from an Oregon area school district.
    • No need for a golf cart, it's mostly walkable, unless you absolutely want to get somewhere fast. We walked to the northernmost point of the tourist/visitor area of San Pedro.
    • Fido's courtyard - nothing special other than the view (get patio if you can) of the main beach area; just off the town square.
    • We stayed at an Airbnb, I don't recall seeing any of the hotel chains where you might be able to use points/free nights, though I didn't look closely when I went 4 years ago.
    • we did both flight (to) and boat transfer (return) to the key. The flight was cool and seemed fairly priced. I think it was about a 10 minute flight OTOH. The plane was small enough that someone got to sit in the empty co-pilot's seat.
    • Any other questions just ask.

Don't go to the Urgent Care in Reynoldstown. I've been 3x now. 2 of the times the PA or doctor was great, but the 3rd time it was kind of a nightmare, and he 100% wouldn't help me with anything other than what I initially wrote on the form.

Agree with everything in his post.

    * You will want to get out in the water & snorkel. Its nice to get out on a boat and enjoy the scenery/fresh air.

(We took a snorkel tour with a group of people & the waters a little choppy so this hot Australian girl & asian girls boobs kept popping in/out her bikini.) Not important. Just the tour guide just laughed and said it happens all the time :)

*Also the nurse sharks are 100% safe, but they are big/fast so sit back if you're not super comfortable in the water.

    * Took an old school bus to San Ignacio. It was safe/clean & $10-12 sounds about right.

    * Food & Lodging is more expensive on Ambergris. We just stayed one night @ bnb & ate street food.

    * San Pedro is less than a mile by 4 blocks so dont need to use a cart.

Who else in here has their diving certification? I hated the process with all my heart, but in the end, am very glad I did it. Want to get my Nitrox cert as well.

I have PADI OW, OWA & Nitrox - sadly I used it a ton in my first year or two and have been a dry spell (hah!) for the last three. I considered diving on our honeymoon in Bora Bora, but heard from other divers it was shallow enough that you can see most of it via snorkeling.

Belize was a bad place to dive first. I saw a ton of wildlife and other places just will come close to that experience.

On my bucket list is night dive, whale sharks and perhaps the blue lagoon.

I got mine when I was like 13 since my dad was a huge diver and we used to go on more dive trips, but now probably only dive once every 5 years so I always have to take a refresher course before I do.

Bonaire was my first diving experience. Probably not great. Shore diving all over the place for a week was pretty awesome, and the thought of going through the whole escapade of renting a boat and waking up early to do it sounds kind of awful.

I'm jealous. Getting it that long ago would have been awesome. Packing it into a full, adult schedule was not my favorite. I would have never gotten one if I wasn't forced into that trip to Bonaire with a bunch of other folks who were all scuba certified.

Indonesia in general has been rising on my radar. I'm sure I'll hit up Bali when I go, but really want to explore Komodo National Park, the Gili Islands, and some mountains on Java. Maybe make it up to Borneo.

Papua New Guinea is super intriguing, but you can't really go without a full security detail.

Room 15 other than Patagonia, what was your favorite part of Southern Argentina? Did you explore elsewhere? Bariloche, El Calafete, El Chalten? I think the last two are more pit-stop towns before hiking. Spend any time in Tierra Del Fuego? Places like that at the literal 'end of the world' fascinate me--going to the Cape in South Africa and knowing there is nothing between you and Antarctica

I kind of consider all of that Patagonia. But yes I went to all of those places. El Chalten is a brand new town built solely for hiking but it wasn’t one of my favorite hikes I did.

Bariloche is beautiful, think Swiss mountain town with beautiful lakes.

Got similar feelings about being in Ushuaia. Just being at the very end of the developed world is a really cool feeling.

Ok I've spent the whole morning looking at hotels in Florence. I narrowed it down to places close to the Duomo and areas around it. Here's what I've found that I liked thus far:

    1. Hotel Spadai-4 star hotel. comfort double-$291 a night. Very modern looking. 3 min walk to duomo. Gets very good reviews.

    2. Hotel Bernini Palace-$377 a night 5 star hotel . great location 7 min walk to city center/duomo. Facilities look beautiful some of the best I’ve seen. Very traditional and luxurious looking.

    3. Golden Tower Hotel-$328 a night. 5 star hotel. good location 8 min walk to city center/duomo. Doesn’t look quite as nice as hotel Bernini to me but still looks very nice.

    4. Santa Maria Novella-225 per night, 4 star hotel, looks very traditional and nice. Good reviews on booking.com. facilities 9.2, value for money 9.1, location 9.7. 7 min walk to duomo.

    5. Hotel Brunelleschi-$393 per night. 4 star hotel. Facilities 9.4 value for money 8.7 location 9.8. 3 min walk to duomo.

    6. Residence Hilda -$244 a night. 4 star hotel. Facilities 9.5. Location 9.8 . Value for money 9.3. Location seems good -7 min walk to duomo-and the rooms are nice but doesn’t look like it has much atmosphere , character, and the facilities themselves looks sparse from the photos I can see. All the pictures are of the rooms not the facilities.

    7. La Maison de Sage-$271.33 a night. 3 star hotel. Really good reviews and location. 12 min walk to duomo

    8. Hotel Albini Firenze-$319 a night. 4 star hotel. Looks traditional and very nice. Reviews were mixed for some reason. 10 min walk to duomo

    9. Ponte Vecchio Suites-$293 a night. 5 star hotel good location 12 min walk to city center/duomo. rooms look really nice.

    10. Hotel Magnani Feroni-$280 a night. 5 star hotel. Location 9.0. 14 min walk to duomo. You are right across the river from the city center but it is a bit of a walk.

    11. Pallazo Castri-$260 a night. 4 star hotel. 11 min walk to duomo.

FWIW central Florence is pretty compact to the point where just about everything is within a 15-minute walk, no matter where you stay

We stayed in an airbnb on Via de Neri between the Uffizi and Santa Croce, and the Accademia was the furthest we had to walk - about 15 minutes.

One thing I wish we'd done was stay up at San Miniato long enough to listen to the Gregorian chants at 5:30pm. We hit the Piazzale Michelangelo for the afternoon light and sunset, then walked up to San Miniato, but it was 4:30 and I didn't want to hang around for another hour.

Honeymoon next summer and we’re thinking Eastern Europe. We’re going to a wedding in Spain, so starting there but want to eventually make our way to Georgia. Kind of a bucket list stop for me, I lead a trip with a Georgian native a while back ino the GC and her pics of the countryside are incredible. Not sure if the logistics are there for the 2-2.5 weeks we plan on going, but I’m determined to get there, with a stop in Kiev. Looking for Georgian recs.

No recommendations but I just got back from a work trip to Warsaw, Poland. At dinner the last night one of my Polish coworkers mentioned he just got back from a trip through Georgia and that it was incredible. He brought it up because I was eating Veal and he mentioned that Veal is featured everywhere in Georgia and is cheaper than chicken. He also said that Georgia is a cheap trip for them so for us it would be incredibly cheap.

I was looking into Georgia last year as a possible side trip when we were in Russia but didn't end up going. Read nothing but good things. Known for great wine and maybe the most hospitable people in the world. Tblisi old town is a unesco world heritage site and the wine country is not too far away. 2-2.5 weeks may be a little long for just there, but from what I looked at a week seemed good. Pretty sure someone in here had been and gave some info. Believe is was a fellow Buff. Maybe aspenbuff I can tell you in Russia we had Georgia food and it was awesome. I got to do this back in July. Made me wonder if/how the pilots communicate that with the pilots in the smaller tour planes. Those ones only go up to about 12k feet for the most part but some will go higher. The 737 being at 30k feet shouldn’t be an issue but I’m still curious about it

Was talking to some friends that work for Alaska Air and ATC, they said that our level (24K for this flight) was way above the bush plane ceiling (10K) that it wasn’t a worry and that since we were early we were going to be in a holding pattern above Anchorage so they actually preferred circling in the “middle of nowhere” where there’s less commercial traffic. They only do it though if they are early and there’s not an opening to land.
