Do you use any Hyatt codes or anything? I've been sticking with Marriott mainly bc I had a code from a previous company as well as one a buddy gave me from a previous company of his. Those codes always make it pretty cheap but I'd rather spend a few extra bones and go the Hyatt route.
GF is going to Medellin for 10 days next month to visit family, the week before Thanksgiving--when I could've potentially joined. I'm pretty jelly.
i dont, just have the Hyatt CC that gives status, a free night, etc and points are very valuable while being transferable from most major cards probably book 80% of my nights with points though
does anyone use luggage straps i don't think i need them but with all the travel a zipper popping is a fear on a long trip
Just booked Amsterdam for 10 days in December Any folks want to give me the lowdown on what I should know bud-wise?
That'll be great, nothing really to know. Same as buying weed in the US. Amsterdam has an awesome party scene if that's your thing. Definitely try to see more of the Netherlands (Rotterdam) and possibly Belgium. Super easy train ride to anywhere. Could be cool to check out Luxembourg as well.
Just didn't know if it was like breweries where's there's certain legendary ones you want to hit or anything. I've been to pot shops in Denver and Seattle and just found whatever was convenient
never saw much about Georgia despite it becoming a kind of popular new destination then Renee Redzepi posted tons of videos from his two week hike there and i'm in
doing 10 days flying in to Amsterdam in April, will do Brussels, the tulip place because of when i'm going, and probably Haarlem Brussels for a few days, others for day trips from Amsterdam
Just did Cabo if anyone needs a write-up. Great trip for a group of guys. Probably average location with your lady, but in all reality with all the activities it would work well as well.
Weed https://www.greenhouse.org/ (this is my preferred shop) http://www.greyarea.nl/ http://dampkring-coffeeshop-amsterdam.nl/the-best-coffeeshop-in-amsterdam/ https://www.thebulldog.com/ http://grasshopper.nl/ Food Spots https://restaurantstork.nl/reserveren/ (really good spot on the water) https://foodhallen.nl/ (really good) https://rongastrobar.nl/en/?cli_action=1570741797.897 (good) https://www.cafeparhasard.nl/ https://www.theseafoodbar.com http://www.george.amsterdam/george-wpa/menu/breakfast,-lunch-en-dinner http://www.cecconisamsterdam.com/en http://www.upstairspannenkoeken.nl/the-menu/ (good pancake shop across from weed store) http://www.brouwerijhetij.nl/ (good brewery) Febo late night just to say you did it Def check out the Museums and Canals. Really all the tourist stuff is legit except the Heineken experience. De Pijp for nightlife. Vondelpark is a good spot to smoke, we stay right beside there.
Latest plan for travel the next few months mid November-drive Seattle to Houston. Go to Moab, Santa Fe for meowulf, white sands park, big bend, home 12/2-fly to Bali. Do Indonesia 1/2-fly to Auckland. Rent camper van and drive for a month 2/3-fly to his chi Minh and rent motorcycle. Ride motorcycle north Early March-finish
I’m not a weed guy, but Fran Tarkenton has a great list. My favorite brewery is Proeflokaal Arendsnest (in Amsterdam) and a close second is Jopenkerk Haarlem (in Haarlem). Other things you need to do: eat herring, get an authentic stroopwafel and eat bitterballen when you’re drunk, high or both.
I don't think you answered my last question. Any reason for the long vacation? Just blowong off work for 3-4 months and get a job when you get back? Leave if Absence? I'm jealous
Ah my bad. I leave my job next Friday. Been in tech for 7 years, going to take some bets on myself and see where it goes. Have a few small businesses I’ve invested in over the last year where I’ve been mostly passive, going to add some involvement. Also have a startup gig that’s there for me when I return with a buddy that I’m going to commit some time to
If my company did sabbaticals it might have prolonged my tenure, but I’m pretty done with the politics. Haven’t been able to own my time like this since college so hoping it works and I’ll never look back
Moab, Santa Fe, and Big Bend will be great that time of year (never been to White Sands, but imagine it will as well). Maybe consider checking out Lake Powell or Muley Point on the way to Santa Fe from Moab. Are you driving straight from Seattle to Moab or stopping anywhere along the way?
1 free day each? You're going to some very beautiful but very remote parts of the country. Once you get there, you're going to regret only spending a day in both Moab and Big Bend unless you've been to either place before. Just to provide a frame of reference, it can take well over an hour by car to get to a lot of places in and around Big Bend. The Chisos Basin is at least a 40 minute drive into the park from any of the entrances and Santa Elena Canyon is 50 minutes from the closest entrance in Terlingua. If I had to guess, November would also be pretty high tourist season given the weather and school breaks, so those driving times will increase due to other tourists. On the other hand, you are in the absolute middle of no where by yourself a lot of the time so I guess you could cruise around at 100mph if you wanted.
Yeah that makes sense. We aren’t on a time crunch so can add days wherever we want really. Just get to Houston by thanksgiving. My dog will be with us though, which constrains a ton for national parks.
You could see a lot of Big Bend via car in about 3 days. Unless you're planning on doing some gnarly outdoors stuff, that'd probably suffice. I don't think I'd go all that way for any less time. Once you turn off the highway in Marathon, you'll start to realize just how remote the place is. You could spend weeks/months/years in Moab and not have enough time to explore all the parks and BLM land.
Hey tspa just wanted to say thanks again. We did Ramsey Cascade on Friday, Charlie’s Bunion/Jump Off on Saturday, and then since we needed something quick this morning that didn’t involve driving back through Gatlinburg we did Hen Wallow Falls this morning. That resource you linked plus your own recs were invaluable. My one mistake was deciding to use hotel points and stay for free in Gatlinburg rather than renting a cabin off of 321. Everything bad I’ve read about Gatlinburg is incorrect. It’s so so much worse.
That's great, glad you enjoyed. It's too bad the leaves had not started changing yet. And yes, it can not be undersold how terrible Gatlinburg is.
I love that area of the Smokies, mostly for the Dragon. Would drive +4hrs each way several times a year for like 2 full passes. Nothing in the world comes close in terms of technical driving, and the scenery is pretty great too.
Going to Mexico City on Thursday for my bachelor party with 12 other guys. Staying on the edge of Condesa and Roma Norte. Have dinner reservations Thursday at Merotoro and Saturday at Pujol. Thinking we'll attend luche libre on Friday night. Friday during the day we'll probably hit up a museum (maybe Frida Kahlo if people aren't feeling up for one of the bigger museums) or one of the drunken boat tours mentioned in this thread. Anything else we should make sure to do (keeping in mind it's a bachelor party and not an opportunity to be fully immersed in the culture)? I figure aside from those things we'll just be wandering around hopping in and out of bars, but am open to suggestions regarding particular bars/clubs, restaurants, food trucks, or museums. TIA bRamonceTaylor GGCD mc415
I was going to say go to Estadio Azteca for Club America game but they are on the road. You going Xochimilco for the floating garden beer boats (heard they recently restricted to 3 drinks an hour per person now). Museum of Anthropology is friggin amazing but it’s a big ass place so maybe not want you want to do, I’m sure you’re going to check out El Zocalo which is really cool to walk around......I do recommend eating at San Angel Inn right across the street from Frida’s and Diego’s studio that is a classic Mexico City restaurant great seafood there
Sorry for all the pot questions. What is the advisability of buying bud/edibles in Amsterdam and taking it with you to other European cities? Do you get carefully searched for it when boarding one of these budget flights or trains?
I have not tried to fly with it myself, but I have heard that they do look for it, but if they find it, they just make you throw it away if its a small amount.
Trains you are good. Ive done it from Amsterdam to Paris/Brussels/London. Only place they carefully search anything is to/from London, unlike intra continental Europe, bc they have heightened customs check where they screen your bags, sometimes have K9s. But they arent checking for weed. Ive never had an issue. This was pre-Brexit, it may be tougher and can let you know in 2 weeks. And smaller regional train stations from Amsterdam, like Antwerp, Rotterdam, etc, are no more than just city-to-city commuter stops. Idk about Flights but I cant imagine it being harder than America, which is easy. Never really see drug dogs at airports, TSA isnt looking for it. Never had an issue doing it with oils, gummies, edibles. Just be smart about it, like anything in life.
We spent most of our time in condesa so refs will be focused there for the most part: Torta de Chilaquiles is an amazing street food spot in condesa and walking distance from you. don't be intimidated by the line, it moves fast https://www.yelp.com/biz/la-esquina-del-chilaquil-méxico Al Pastor at Tizoncito is a cool experience and the dudes slicing the pastor are literal gods with carving knives in their hands. there are 2 places called tizoncito within 2 blocks of another, can’t remember which location I went to. I think the eastern-most). There's also an amazing spot we went to in centro. Contramar seems to be the place to go for seafood in condesa. Getting a table might be an issue for a large party. Fonda Mayora, Azul, Lardo are good spots in condesa. Go on a walking food tour during the day. It’s about 3-4 hours and a nice detox. We did the street food tour through Club Tengo Hombre. It was great and one of the highlights of Mexico city. no-brainer. Walk around the zocalo. Chapultepec park Lucha libre You can do a mezcal tasting, but the vast majority of our mezcal consumption took place in Oaxaca so cant help you there. We didn’t make it there due to time and exhaustion, but there was a bar called the fuck off room that looked cool. There’s a taco place we were going to pair with it a block away that’s supposed to be good, but I don’t remember what it’s called. See if there are any sporting events going on that weekend. We went to opening day baseball in oaxaca and it was absolutely wild. Pujol is great, can’t go wrong there. There are a bunch of bars a couple blocks south of the restaurant. We went to Jules’ Basement.
Moab will be cold in November. Arches is better than Canyonlands imo. Moab Brewery makes a great stout.
Boise is a great town. Lots to do. Twin Falls has the twin falls. That’s about it. But staying there shortens the drive to Moab.
OK. Going to Bali tomorrow night and finally got an upgrade offer... How much is 23hrs in Business Class lay flat seats worth vs riding in coach? Back to Back 13hr/9hr flight. Caveat: Could possibly sit 2 ppl alone in a 3 row seat bc it inst fully booked yet. Aslo have only spent 300 so far on flights/hotel. I'm on the fence
Keramas (day trip to Nusa Penida) Ubud Padang Padang I want nothing to do with anything up the coast from the airport
I was tagging him for our talk. The business class seats clearly aren’t booking. $490 upgrade each way doesn’t seem that far fetched of a question/offer imo.
