Where Eagles Dare -- You should read (or listen like I did) to this book. I really enjoyed it. https://www.audible.com/pd/Barbarian-Days-Audiobook/B00YMMTOI6
If the waterproof aspect of the sneaker is important to you look at Nike's Shield line. They advertise them as water repellent, but I stood on the the first step of a swimming pool for a couple of minutes to test that out and they stayed dry. They are the exact same in terms of weight and comfort as their normal non-Shield Nike counterpart. I have a pair to hike in when it's too cold for Chacos, because I don't like wearing boots. For creek crossing they are great, but I wore them through knee deep snow and the same features that keeps water out also holds it in (I was not anticipating so much snow in July in Nevada, so that was mostly my fault for not being prepared). I still prefer them to any trail runner or other waterproof shoe I have seen. https://www.nike.com/w?q=shield&vst=shield Amazon also last year's models which come in different colors. Nike also has some Gore-Tex options. On boots l really like Cole Haan. Anything in their various Grand lines will be comfortable enough to wear all day, but look nice as well. They also have several waterproof options if that is something you are looking for.
Leaving for 10 days in Amsterdam-London-Brussels on Saturday. Kopped Osprey Farpoint 55L backpack (red) and new rain/wind resistant jacket (green) from Target for the occasion
i expect a write up because i'm going to two of those in the spring and went to London like a month ago so always like hearing other peoples opinion
I will post some deets for the board. December is rainy with 8 hours daylight in those cities so that will limit some of my activities. A lot of indoors stuff like museums and historic sites (along with pubs and coffeeshops). Hopefully will be able to get out in the streets and explore too though. Hoping the rain is the Seattle drizzle type instead of a constant pour
Bali is great. I'll get a write up done at the end of the month. Did Uluwatu for 5 days and Canggu for a week so far. Onto Ubud tomorrow for 5 days, then Gili air for 5 days, nusa penida then back to Canggu for New year's. January going to head to Myanmar for 10 days (I think I'm the first in this thread to go?) Then back to Thailand for 3 weeks.
I spent about 2 weeks in Myanmar during my excursion through Asia. It's amazing. Did Mandalay --> Bagan --> Inle Lake --> Yangon. Only part I disliked was Yangon. Loved everything else. Bagan and Inle are out of this world. Mandalay is great, but you need to get out of the city. Didn't make it to the beaches, but they're supposed to be dope, too. Only thing that sucks is the only way to travel around the country is by bus. 10-14 hour rides are standard.
On my penultimate night in Japan. The trip has been awesome. I’d definitely come back here. Tokyo is wild. Stayed in Shinjuku but ventured out to a bunch of different wards. Kyoto was a great change of pace. It’s so peaceful and tranquil. Osaka is a bit of a mix of the two. Food was the main draw here and it didn’t disappoint. I had breakfast at the United Polaris lounge in Chicago before we left. Easily the best lounge experience of my life.
I don't specifically need water proof, per se, but mainly just some shoes that are not knit and would hold up well against rain. But these are great suggestions and greatly appreciated.
Wife and I are going to Copenhagen in March any recommendations on good areas to stay in for an airbnb? I have been before but stayed in a hotel because of work.
if you're wanting to do tourist stuff predominantly Nyhavn is the move, going to be pricey though if you don't mind having to rent a bike or use transit to get around the hipster area is Vesterbro, closer to west side of Tivoli being the prime area we split our time between both areas
Big fan of Vesterbro. I wouldn't want to stay in Nyhavn, but that's where most recs will likely tell you to go. City is pretty small and very easy to get around places.
Yeah i stayed in Nyhavn last time i was there not a huge fan of the area, i think i will look into the Vesterbro area or Norrebro
If you have any foodies then I would suggest making a reservation and taking the shuttle boat out to Latitudes: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaur...Restaurant-Key_West_Florida_Keys_Florida.html
Blue Heaven for a nice dinner or brunch, BO's Fish Wagon for a quick bite. Any bar you stumble into will work, there are so many to choose from. Captain Tony's had the coldest beer imo, Hog's Breath is mostly outside and always have live music. Go to the Pilar rum distilleries for some free shots with your tour.
The snorkeling tours are also awesome. People skip it assuming it is lame but it is a great break up in the day and you get wasted after you get out of the water (some provide beer only, so bring liquor).
I never did Cabo for a Bach Party, but did go on Spring Break one year back in college. Fun times. I went to Playa Del Carmen once for a bachelor party, and it was probably the most fun I ever had on one. Don't really think of it as a typical bachelor party destination though.
Depends on the crew obviously. Having little to no laws can really amp up the energy, even if you don’t personally partake in the activities.
Speaking of that... We did go to Jaco, Costa Rica for one of the bachelor parties. It was interesting to say the least -- wouldn't recommend. Where Eagles Dare actually met the jackass who organized that one at the Braves' last game this year.
Yes the 395-page travel thread has been to one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world You may ask your real questions now
Prostitution is legal which brings dope boys and stick up boys. Cops sort of tell you to go out at night at your own risk. Think like a sketchy part of Brazil. Water is also a tad dirty there. They told me to take the cash and passports out of my hotel room because the staff couldn’t be trusted lol. But surf is good, food is good, and women are beautiful.
941Gator Where Eagles Dare epic finals day at pipe today. Are y’all watching? potentially Gabriel vs. John John back from injury in the quarters to decide the world title race
Was reading this morning https://www.worldsurfleague.com/pos...ship-tour-round-of-32-heat-1-full-heat-replay
Over the weekend the place is party central but everyone leaves during the week. I stayed during the week. Was really funny to see dozens of hookers at the grocery and laundromat
I stayed at the little hotel that has a mini casino. It is where they gather now. I’m talking 30-40 girls pool side. I knew the deal prior to getting to the hotel but I had the GF with me. I played dumb. She thought it was funny. Basically best ppl watching ever.
Watched all day Tuesday and Wednesday. I'm in NYC today going take my wife to tourist stuff she's never done all whilst the finals in 10-12 pipe. 8 hours of perfect surfing. Fuck me. Hope Gabby loses in his first heat, but Jesus he's so fucking good at Pipe. I think he's better than JJF and that kills me to say. The ocean just turns onfm for him. I want to see JJF take him out, but need him to lose so Brother can keep his title hopes alive and win his first ever WSL event. Kohlohe is my #1 Itilo is a close second Fuck Gabby The bottom bracket is so much tougher than the top. Seeding rounds have really switched things up this year. Lots of posting....
Gabriel and John John are neck and neck for me. Gabriel is better in shit surf, John John better at big stuff, equally good at barreling waves. gabriel the better competitor though, and stays healthier. The biggest turnoff for me was nailed on the head by Nathan fletcher. He asked Gabriel what his favorite thing about surfing was and Gabriel said “winning”. :/
Kelly vs Seth Moniz should be a good heat. Also, the Olympic qualifying is fucking stupid. 2 per country is real bad. Brazil getting two and Filipe not getting in but being top 5 is bad. I think there is some qualifying events next year and hope some guys like Kelly, Filipe and others can get in. Also 2024 Olympics gonna be a Chopes. Amazing timing for France to get it with them having Tahiti under their control
