Yeah, the early headlines didn't have it on exactly right. Also, the travel ban does not apply to US residents. We can come back as we please.

 

But so many flights will be cancelled

I'm currently reading through this thread on Costa Rica and am back to page 230. This is probably my favorite thing I have read about Costa Rica (though the write-ups from BayouMafia and 941Gator have also been wildly helpful, as was the car rental write-up, though I forgot who posted that). Really hope I get to do this while I am there.

Of course, really hope I still get to go there in late May.

 

Booked a trip a few weeks ago to Austin, TX through Chase Ultimate Rewards. Dates are April 29 through May 3rd and I am flying Delta. The price has obviously dropped substantially since I booked. Do I have any options with Chase as far as cancelling and rebooking for less? Still planning on going at this point, though that's subject to change.

 

Norway just announced quarantine until Mar 26 for foreign travel that is retroactive to Feb 27. I got back from South Africa on Feb 26 so I’m lucky I guess.

 

Afrikaburn just suspended ticket sales. Fuck.

 

Anyone ever heard of Tobermory, Canada? Looks like a pretty cool spot in the summer. Anyone been? I'd never heard of it until today, but this is the kind of hidden gem location I always try to find.

 

I know there’s a shipwreck near there that I think you can dive to or something.

Tobermory also would be pretty busy in the summer.

 

Hidden meaning that if you're not from the area, there's a good chance you hadn't heard of it.

Afrikaburn canceled. Just had british airways send an advisory. So Apr 23 for Africa is off.

Just canceled next week to Vegas/Zion.

Still waiting for British Airways to make a ruling on June flights to and from Milan. Our budget tickets are nonrefundable if we pull the plug, but we ought to get our money back if they're forced to pull the plug

 

I booked 100% with Chase points, so should be able to get those back.

Biggest worry is the $1,500 wire transfer I did to my Namibian truck rental company. It was already a headache to deal with, don't think a refund will go smoothly.

Delta just cancelled all flights to Europe (besides London) for 30 days

My return flight from Europe just offered me $45 to cancel. The flight was $1350

 

The GF likes to do most of the planning but I am liking this general itinerary more and more. Have to finish reading the notes I have from this thread (copied and pasted into a Word document) to figure out more items but, as of now, my currently thinking is:

5/23- Arrive in San Jose around lunch time
5/24- San Jose
5/25- San Jose (only to raft the Pacuare so will be gone all day)
5/26- Travel to La Fortuna, stay at Spring Resort (Chase points); maybe some hiking this afternoon
5/27- La Fortuna- ATV tour, Volcano tour (maybe the ATV tour is also a volcano tour, haven't checked yet)
5/28-
5/29-
5/30-
5/31-
6/1- Depart San Jose around lunch time

 

So it’s fairly easy to get your chase points back if you have to cancel a flight? No reported cases in Colombia yet but starting to feel dicey about my trip.

Pretty crazy - I usually twitter DM delta because they get back to me in 15 minutes or less. Been 5 hours and still no response.
