virgin atlantic responded to me on twitter after like 4 days trying to charge me a $50 admin fee to cancel my award flight that delta is already cancelling supposedly now i wait 4 more days for the next response
Points, you don't call Chase if you booked with cash. The travel credit I got was through the airline I booked with
I tried for like 3 days to get through to Chase, would just leave it on speaker phone at my desk while on hold. Got disconnected every time after 1-2 hours. Sent them an email, and they responded again asking me to call the same number. So yea, sunk costs.
Even though all bars and restaurants are closed, there are way more people out than need to be. I still walk by dog, but stopped going to parks and stuff because they're pretty crowded.
Hotel I just left a few days back out in DR put 500 employees on leave without pay. They all started protesting and the police came and tear gassed & flash bombed them. Safe to say I won’t be going back.
May not be a big deal to some, but southwest is extending the deadline to use travel funds to June 2021 if they were set to expire between March and May 2020. Saved me about $500.
So looking like I'll have 9/10 days in Patagonia for December, assuming the world doesn't end. Thoughts about 3 beers deep. Room 15 DuffandMuff Chile > Argentina? Seems to be a lot cheaper and less developed. Plus, looks cheaper to fly through Santiago versus Buenos Aires Did y'all do the W trek? Is it easy to do in 4 days? Would like to combine W trek and Fitz Roy Bariloche is much farther north than I thought. Either of y'all go? Is the main method of travel between towns via bus? Do they do overnight buses? Is Ushuaia worth it? My thought was to fly there and go north -- W Trek -- Fitz Roy, but also may start in Punta Arenas. Just spitballin' here
Zero beers deep. definitely cheaper to fly into Chile for some reason cant speak to the W trek but would think there would be plenty of information out there. Fitz Roy is awesome. I spent a few nights in Bariloche, one of my favorite hostels I’ve been to there. Penthouse 1004. It’s beautiful, but yea not true Patagonia. Think they call it the lakes region. Has a Swiss mountain town feel to it. I took almost all busses. None down there are really long enough for overnight if I remember correctly. I liked Ushuaia. The town is pretty similar to Punta Arenas, but there’s something cool about being at the “end of the world” (although there is another island south of ush) it’s also a little more expensive than PA due to popularity.
Efficient way seems: Punta Arenas --> W trek (4/5 days) --> bus to El Chalten ---> Fitz Roy Did you check out El Calafate?
I had a layover in Santiago on my way to Puerto Natales. Took the bus from the airport directly to my hostel. Met up with a couple friends at the hostel and rented some gear there. Went to the bus station the next morning that dropped us off inside the park. We started on the opposite end of the W trek. We were able to do the W in three nights/four days, which included a lot of hiking on the first day. We slept in refugios instead of tents. I think that's the way to go. Having Puerto Natales as our base hostel is a lot better than Punta Arenas IMO. Much closer and convenient. We returned to Puerto Natales after the W trek then took a short bus to Punta Arenas. Spent a night there before a 12 hour bus ride Ushuaia. We spent three nights in Ushuaia. Went to Tierre del Fuego national park. A day on the boat to visit the penguin island. Then a day just walking around town eating crab legs and sea bass and drinking cheap wine. I flew out of Ushuaia to Buenos Aires for NYE. Didn't do Bariloche. My friends did the glacier tour in El Calafate before I arrived. Apparently it's not that easy hiking with those crampons or whatever. Oh, and if you do the W trek, make sure to bring plenty of food. Torres del Paine park has really limited food options. If you choose to stay in the refugios, you can elect to purchase the dinner and bagged lunch for the following day. I rambled all over, but wanted to let you know my general itinerary.
There are bunch of hikes around El Chalten, but it’s a town created to host hikers. You aren’t gonna find a movie theater. calafate was mostly the glacier. I also had a cold there so didn’t get out as much. Think I went to a nature preserve there as well.
This crisis has taught me maybe I should start booking directly with delta to reward a good company instead of searching for the best deal on Expedia etc.
I think the GF and I are officially calling off our PR trip today. CR at the end of May is still a hope (at least in her mind and I don't want to crush her yet). The major downside is when we cancel or try and change, we only get the value. Both flights were cheap as shit flights so now we lose out on that.
yeah CR ain’t happening in May we aren’t even close to having a handle on this, much less CR when they get hit by this
That's what I do with southwest. Shame 95% of people don't feel this way. That's why basic economy exists
Small stuff compared to how others are being affected by everything going on, but our tasting at our wedding venue was officially canceled for the end of April. Starting to feel like October isn’t that far away and our date will be impacted as well. Plus side is we’re using our canceled airfare for next month to book part of the honeymoon flights while we’re still in this waiver time frame for United
Going to be very interesting to see how weddings next year are impacted. There will be two years' worth of weddings to pile in Probably bought me a year though
hotel thats keeping my money in amsterdam is stockpiling 1 star reviews on websites for doing it. this can't be a viable long term business strategy for them.
Have to think a lot of hotels/etc with thin margins are doing this, and the public backlash is going to kill them.
Yeah. A friend’s sister was supposed to get married Memorial Day weekend and she rescheduled very early on but the next time she could get was next April. Venues are going to lose a ton of revenue in 2020 just to see a huge spike in 2021
pretty confident the netherlands will be helping these folks out in a big way, only idea i had was the owner is planning to sell the place so is just packing up all the free reservation $$$'s
If they can survive. Thing is, most of the good ones are booked every Saturday anyway. So maybe we start seeing more Friday/Sunday at second tier venues?
My buddy’s wedding was supposed to be this weekend. He had it moved to late September now. I’m supposed to be in a wedding Memorial Day weekend. Haven’t heard from my buddy and I don’t want to ask him about it. Really hope it’s moved cuz I don’t want to go to that one for selfish reasons.
I got married late February. Narrowly beat this thing and it ended up being a really nice weekend. Only thing impacting us is we have no clue when we can go on our honeymoon. Also trying to time it when we can start working on having a kid, but she doesn't want to be pregnant during the honeymoon. Totally understand it and don't mind waiting anyways. Just biding our time until we can plan our trip to Japan.
I think we’re just going to get married in May regardless. I always wanted to just go down to the courthouse so I guess I win.
Congrats. Much rather spend that money on something else rather than a party for 200 people you spend a few minutes with
I’ve got a flight booked to Denver April 9th. Anyone dealt with southwest during this? Should I try to cancel it now or wait until it’s closer to the flight? Also have flights booked to St Thomas June 17th. Those I booked through the chase portal but paid for them, didn't use points. Not looking forward to dealing with them.
I had flights on SW this weekend that I bought using points. I canceled the flights and was refunded the points + 9/11 fee. I have a flight on SW from Denver to San Diego on May 5th. I paid cash and it looks like I'll only be able to get a credit, not a true refund. Holding off for now. In other news, I just received an email from Amex regarding a United flight I booked through their portal using MR points. Apparently I can now change or cancel that flight directly with United. Still only get credit, no refund.
My hotel in Rome said they'd let me move the dates. My hotel in Florence said they'd let me move the dates until December 2020. They quoted some statute on that regarding non refundable trips. I booked everything non refundable because I'm a cheap ass I guess. Vatican-refunded American Airlines-refunded Wine tour-letting me move the dates. Some folks I trust tell me by December 2020 things should be fine. Personally, going to Italy in 2020 sounds like an awful idea. Death zone.
FWIW we did Rome/Siena/Florence in late Nov-early Dec in 2018, and it was pretty cool seeing them setting up their Christmas stuff. Really not all that cold and the crowds were minimal.
Delta gave me a full refund for my trip to Portugal next month. Hotel wouldn’t do a refund but did give me a full voucher good through June 2021. I’ll probably use it so I didn’t push it further. Have a trip planned to Greece in September. I’m guessing it’ll be a no go but no point in worrying about it now. Biggest positive there is the flight was booked with miles. I don’t want to lose them but it beats having it be cash.
have france in august and currently in the "do i even plan this, or just wait a month or two to see where we're headed"
I have everything booked for Greece, including ferries and a flight from Athens to Santorini, so I’m just waiting. Not sure what I would do in your shoes. You might get good deals by waiting a while so I guess it won’t hurt to wait.
i missed the travel restriction by 24 hours so waiting for my april flight to amsterdam to get cancelled to dodge a $50 admin fee
Theyve been good to me too. Have refunded my 3 upcoming trips up to July. Waiting on mid July trip but suspect they will refund that too. Also extended all companion tix, upgrade certificates and travel vouchers to end of 2020 if they were about to expire.
Anyone ever dabble in international health insurance? I moved down to Florianopolis, Brazil, a couple of weeks ago and am only looking for something short term (3 months) in case I get the Corona. I'm not sure where to start besides Google. Thanks bros, stay safe.
My Wizzair flight to London got cancelled and they’re offering 100% refund or 120% credit. Thinking about taking the credit but without knowing anything more about them, I’m scared that they may go under and I lose the credit. What would you do?
2 years. The flight was cheap, so the extra would be $10 CAD, so even less USD, so tbh it’s not some life altering decision I have to make here.
If you’re in a position to take the credit, then I’d probably take it rather than the cash. Probably a lot of people getting cash refunds, so their cash flow may hurting and taking the credit could help em out a bit since they’re a low cost airline.
