Also - Seville is about a 2 hour drive if you want to spend 2-3 nights there before returning back to the quiet of Lagos. We did that and had a blast. Beautiful town

The west coast beach towns are all supposed to be pretty cool (colder tho than south). Peniche, Ericeira, Nazare. The water is colder, but there's a beach, it'll probably be ~70 degrees. All are in between Porto and Lisbon

On a related note, I don't see myself going back into the office any time soon, and this whole WFH ordeal is giving me a shitload more confidence to go the full remote route.

My gf and I decided that if there are signs we are going to have another quarantine or anything like it, we're getting on a plane to some island country only taking visitors with negative Covid tests (St. Lucia, etc). Not even going to think about it. Airbnb for a month and go

That whole Algarve region looks nice but yeah I was hoping for something pretty authentic Portugese.
I'll take a look at Lagos.

We like some hippie stuff but we'll have our one year old son with us so won't have the ability to do much in regards to that.

Yeah, once you do it it's hard ever going back. WFH is rare in my field so the fact my company will likely let me do it forever means I'll probably never leave this company.

Cool - the town isn't like that, there's like a commune about an hour away in the mountains that gets pretty wild but wouldn't be anywhere close Lagos.

I’ve booked several domestic, no plans on any international though. One I’m holding off on is the jump on Hawaiian from Maui over to Kauai since if we end up having to cancel that I’m not sure if we’ll be able to use the credit next year

just got rid of my last two international flights this fall. tokyo was originally march of this year and is now moved out to April next year, France going from August to May.

just holding out hope cancun in december holds

flying internationally this fall just doesn't seem like its going to be reasonable for vacation to the vast majority of destinations

Probably common knowledge ITT, but a nice reminder about COVID refunds:

How to get a refund if an airline hasn’t canceled your flight.
Two weeks ago, we discussed how airlines, under US law, owe you a refund if they cancel your flight. But what should you do if they haven’t canceled your flight and you don’t want to take the trip?
    It’s a game of chicken.
Whichever party blinks first loses. If an airline cancels your flight, you’re owed a cash refund. If you cancel your ticket (and the flight is still scheduled to go), you’re owed a travel voucher.
⌚️ Wait as long as possible to cancel.
If the airline operates your scheduled flight, it doesn’t matter how far in advance you canceled. You’d get the same travel voucher whether you canceled your ticket two days or two months before your flight.

In these Weird Times, airlines are canceling flights as little as 48 hours before departure. When they do so, only current ticketholders are owed a refund.

So, even if you’ve emotionally decoupled from a trip, it’s still best to hold off canceling as long as possible.
    Don’t forget about schedule changes.
Federal law says that you’re owed a cash refund if the airline cancels your flight or makes a “significant schedule change.”

The precise rules vary by carrier, but in general, if an airline changes your flight times by 2+ hours or switches you from a nonstop to a connecting flight, congratulations! You’ve won your game of chicken and may now collect your refund.
What if there are travel restrictions at your destination?
Let’s say you’ve got a two-week trip booked to Hawaii this month, where currently all visitors must self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival.

Logically, there’s no way you could be expected to take a trip where all you’d see is the inside of a Honolulu hotel room. It’s absurd and if I ran an airline that would 100% be refund-eligible.

Legally, though, the airline doesn't owe you a refund. In lieu of cash, they’ll likely offer a voucher or to waive date change fees.
What if I already took a voucher and the airline later cancels the flight? Can I get a refund?
Anecdotally, I’ve heard of a few cases where passengers were able to switch their travel credit to a cash refund when the airline later axed the flight. But I’ve heard many more rejections.

If you still want to try—it never hurts to ask!—I’d approach it with realistic hopes. Give the airline a call, be friendly, and see if they’re willing to do you a solid now that they’ve canceled the flight. If you’ve got an especially compelling reason—getting laid off from work, say—don’t be afraid to mention it.

Note that this advice applies only if you’ve accepted a voucher. Many airlines, after canceling your flight, will try to automatically give you a travel credit, like in this Delta email below sent to an SCF member. Call them up and politely insist on the refund you’re owed instead.

All the flights are full right now. UA is giving you the option to reschedule or refund a flight if it's over 70% or some shit but most flights are full. DL is still blocking the middle seat I believe.

Any chance anyone here has been messing with passport renewal during this mess?

I'm going to have to send mine off and it's basically a black hole on when you'll get it back. However, I need to start the application in the fall for Mexican residency, and need my passport back by then. It expires end of next year in December, and I don't want to fuck with getting it renewed while being abroad.

I have two more American flights currently booked for this year. One is to Roanoke for the PSU-VT game so just a matter of time until I cancel that. The other is to Chicago at the beginning of October because it was RT for $70 back in March, hoped things might be better by the fall. Don’t really have any desire to go with things as they are now.

Guess I’ll try SW if I need to fly any time soon.

Watching Hawaii’s travel ban (right now set to expire July 31st), and becoming more and more pessimistic that it’ll get renewed. Should that happen it’ll be a 0 flight 2020 for me.

Flew United from Reagan > ohare > PHX a couple weekends ago and I thought they were doing a pretty good job. No middle seats from Ohare to phx, and only a handful of folks were seated next to each other on a 2x2 flight to Ohare. Everyone had masks on (mandatory). Honestly I felt pretty comfortable.

We got an email from a Maui rental spot today (half price in August!) saying that starting August 1 if you can show them that you've tested negative within 72 hours of flying to Hawaii then you can forego their 14-day quarantine. Not sure if this is true, and not sure whether you can guarantee a test being done and reported within 72 hours of flying there

Was looking at doing a fall trip down south ( Carribean/Mexico ). Canadians have to quarantine for 2 weeks after they return home and it is mandatory. RCMP and customs notify your local police and they will check in on you. The bigger issue is the amount of southern Americans who are travelling and potentially exposing others to the virus. Going to be at least a year...

It’s true, was put out by the state. I noticed this the other day because our honeymoon thought now is to go ahead and book and just see what happens, everything can be canceled still so not much risk in that

It dawned on me today (maybe it dawned on others before this and I'm late to the party), I'm thinking about going somewhere for a month. I'm working 100% remotely and could be anywhere for work (ideally some place in EST). The current idea if USVI. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Dumb idea? Cool idea? If a decent idea, any suggestions? Was looking at Hawaii when it dawned on me there is a terrible time difference that nixed the idea, thougg starting Aug 1 they would allow no quarantine if you have a negative test from 72 hrs before you arrive.

Sorry if these are slightly disjointed thoughts/questions, I'm a bit tipsy at the moment.

Wife and I have been talking about it for about a month now. We were supposed to go to Texas and New Orleans for two weeks at the beginning of September and that's not happening now with the state of things so we're looking at driving out to Montana or Idaho around the Yellowstone area and renting a place for the month. I've worked remote for two years and we've talked about doing this ever since I got the job but we bought a new house and had a kid in the last two years that got in the way and when work is normal I have to travel to clients typically at least once a month. Now seems like the perfect time and we should be remote enough that the virus isn't a concern. Even though we're pretty certain we both have gotten it as I was in Hong Kong when everything was breaking out in East Asia and we both got sick about 2 weeks after I got back.

My tiny house at Rainier will be finished in about 2 weeks, hoping to have it available for July 31 weekend. Talking to some other owners in the area down there, they have received a shitload of inquiries about longterm rentals.

Would be super cool to have someone rent it out for 30 days for a few grand.

On the other hand, I've been going down there during the week myself to stay and WFH, and it's so damn peaceful compared to the city. Started to have second thoughts about even renting it out 100%, but need that cashflow to recoup my money spent.

Wife and I want to do a European trip somewhere for our 10 yr anniversary next year (assuming we can travel abroad by then). Was leaning towards 2 weeks in the UK. Is that enough time to hit spots in England, Scotland, & Ireland?

Any areas or experiences that are a must?
