Would be prudent for me to add an * to this last sentence that I did test positive as of this afternoon. No one else in our group, or my gf has symptoms or has tested positive which is odd. Felt like a bag of ass tuesday and wednesday when I got tested but about 90% symptom free at this point
Where should I move? Obviously stuck with keeping an apartment in LA and Jackson Hole but for for actual long-term I'm definitely interested in where people are thinking to relocate - basically Florida and Texas are the only answers I tend to get.
Bankz She has agreed to do a test trial through Glacier and up through Alaska to consider getting something up there. lol Which city are you in?
Wrong Banks :-( Glacier is great, do it. Im up in Fairbanks but travel down to Ketchikan as well. Spent plenty of time around anchorage and other parts of the state though so Im here for advice.
We literally can't work right now so pretty much taking the opportunity to travel as much as possible, Is it an absurd time to go to Alaska- we were thinking Hawaii as backup.
We're either going to Canada or Alaska tomorrow. Looking at flights now - surprising the wife with this in the am. With the amount of shit she has to put up with from my end - well deserved.
The Banks is obviously a resident and great for advice but my fiancée just spent 2.5 years in Anchorage so I can offer up some stuff specific to that area. She loved it up there and if work would’ve cooperated I would have liked to join her for a couple years. I was fortunately able to visit a few times and while we did go out to do some of the tourist stuff, it was nice to get a feel for the local spots and activities. December is a smart time to visit to see how cold and little daylight there is. One of my first visits was in February for that same reason and we enjoyed a day skiing down in Girdwood which is an awesome little town, and they have lights in the resort for night skiing
Any input definitely appreciated - I've only been twice before (one of those was when I was too young to remotely comprehend anything) and didn't really get to spend that much time there.
I would love to spend a season or two in Seward. Awesome little town. Really want to do a trek through a portion of Denali, but not gnarly enough yet. That's all I got.
I left LA in 2002 and moved to the Santa Cruz area. I'll never leave Climate change means SC will have SB weather going forward, which will be perfect SLO is really nice too
Sorry for the delay. Random thoughts incoming: Spoiler She lived in two different areas, both were in south Anchorage. The city is mostly easy to get around, although I have heard that a lot of people live just northeast in Eagle River and traffic gets terrible because the highway is too small for the number of people on it Cost of living was insane for us (but may not be a huge shock for you coming from SoCal). Her last apartment was a one bed/one bath in a complex with a heated garage and she paid $1600 a month. She was right by the airport which was pretty convenient being able to get there in less than 10 minutes by Uber. Our favorite places: South is a great spot for any meal. Their brunch is top tier and the dinner menu is awesome too. Anchorage Brewing is the best brewery in town. It’s right next to King Street which is just ok, but their building makes them worthwhile. Midnight Sun is also decent. Even if you’re not into cider, Double Shovel has a good variety that are very good. Alcohol laws are weird there though; you’re limited to 36 ounces at any place you visit and they close fairly early. People there are obsessed with Moose’s Tooth for pizza and beer but it is mediocre at best. Girdwood is about 45 minutes south and an awesome little town to visit no matter what time of year. Alyeska resort has good hiking in the summer or you can ski it in the winter. Girdwood Brewing is just after Anchorage Brewing in my book but is still great. Jack Sprat for any meal. I know it’s not much but those are just the main highlights that I can think of. I’m happy to offer up anything else if it’s helpful and I’ll ask her to contribute as well
How tf did Florida houses get this expensive? Good lord. I feel like I'm looking at Malibu real estate.
No, flying in tomorrow. Turns out surprising the wife with a last minute flight results in taking a later flight.
Coming home from Anchorage was always tough for me because I can’t sleep on planes for shit. We’re United flyers so we always got the flight that goes through Denver but it’s still only about 5.5 hours coming back so even if you can get to sleep it’s not much. She has an insane ability to fall asleep before takeoff and not budge once until landing and it makes me so jealous.
We're flying into LAX Thursday at noon and flying out Sunday morning in early February. Any suggestions for stuff to do in a 2.5 day trip? I'd want to hike at least once. I want to start taking off a couple days every other month to go on a trip somehwere random for a long weekend.
Flew there to look at schools 8 or so years ago, but only went to the observatory and to look at schools. I'm pretty sure a lot of places will be closed when we're there, but my wife wanted to go and I wanted to shut her up.
LA is a ghost town right now brotha. With that said, happy to help with any recommendations. Edit: missed that you said early February - I should be in town. Let me know what y'all are looking to get into. Hopefully we have restaurants back by then.
Any suggestions on hotels to stay at? Hopefully there will be a city or two that's at least partially open when we're there. We don't really have a plan. - I like going to random bars/restaurants at night. - I'd like to hike a short trail (2-3 hours) at least once. - I want to stay under $300/night (goal is to keep each trip under 2k so we can go on 5 or 6 small trips and 1 vacation this year). - Would prefer to just uber everywhere so I can drink and not have to mess with a rental car. Is that a bad idea? I'd hope to get a hotel somewhere close to lots of stuff to do.
It looks like you're going to have real snow in the mountains this week. I got about 5-6 inches in the valley on the Tennessee side. The mountains are supposed to have 8+ inches. I took this this morning trying to get into the national park.
Check out this brutal itinerary. I don't think my wife would make it. I on the other hand could definitey definitely drink beers at airports, mainboard, and generally goof off and enjoy myself and make it: American, Korean Air, Cathay Pacific. New Orleans to Dallas Dallas to Incheon International Airport in South Korea-15 hour flight Incheon International Airport to Hong Kong International Airport-4 hr flight 10 hr layover lol Hong Kong to Ngurah Rai International Airport-5 hr flight
