I doubt today’s update would change much, though I know Hawaii isn’t messing around. You should be good though.
iceland just moved from vaccine passport to vaccine passport + negative test on arrival so thats annoying but with two weeks notice not an issue to get worked out
sorry not vax passport just have to show it at immigration seems like if i end up on my france trip in november vax passports for tourists going to 100% be a thing to get into restaurants/bars/etc
I'm watching this too. If we make it this will likely be outdated by the time either of us is there, but fyi; https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTop...o_French_Health_Pass-Paris_Ile_de_France.html
For those planning trips out of the country over the next few months, what would it take for you not to go? And if you don’t go, do you have a backup plan? Outside of Greece or the US saying we can’t go, we plan on making the trip. If we can’t go, we are thinking about driving across the US. I have a lease to turn in come March and I have 20,000 miles to kill.
my biggest hesitation is the risk of not being able to get back to the US iceland we're going to be basically solo driving around the island, etc not really in close contact with people. france is an entirely different ball of wax if delta or god forbid some other variant is bouncing around causing restrictions and high case counts while being more infectious to vax'd folks. it'd be a catastrophic money sink if we popped positive on the return covid test
I'm far more silly and frivolous than this and thus (aside from any obvious health concern) my biggest stumbling block is the idea of being there when things just aren't available and/or the experience is dramatically atypical. If I'm in a world capital and I can't experience it like I normally would, there's almost no point to my being there.
The latter piece is my biggest concern in Greece. The good thing is I work remote full time, and my wife has the ability to work remotely if needed, so if we tested positive we could still do our jobs. That price tag could be hefty though.
100% agree and another factor why we're ready to just get flight credits for this france trip if things keep going south, imagine by November things will be back to a normal covid baseline at least with regards to delta variant if I had a trip in August or early September i'd be nervous
One thing that has me feeling good about going is I have dumb ass family members that went to a wedding in Mexico without being vaccinated and somehow made it back without catching COVID. I have N95’s for our flights and ferries, and obviously wearing regular masks while being out and about won’t be a concern. We basically spend 80% of outside, so I feel confident I’ll be good. It’s just that small chance something happens that is aggravating.
Agreed. My 2021 vacations are remote hippie beaches where I can take questionable substances and do cartwheels in the sand.
Wife and I have been planning a trip to Italy in October but nothing bought yet. Delta is being a real pain in the ass. Sucks because flights are pretty cheap right now.
I’ve been in Europe a week so far and fortunately covid and accompanying requirements haven’t caused much of an issue to this point. Belgium: complete a passenger locator form (PLR) prior to entry by plane. France: nothing Germany: one person in each group has to fill out a paper with contact info. Show vaccination card when checking in at hotel. Every country makes you wear masks when not sitting indoors. That’s about it.
Fyi but this site is handy for entry and quarantine requirements and also day to day life rules like mask wearing, restaurants, etc. https://reopen.europa.eu/en Generalizing a bit as each country can be slightly different, but overall you can do pretty much everything now in European cities besides packed night clubs and events. Obviously that’s subject to change though. Some other countries (Spain was one I remember) had the outdoor mask requirement, which would be annoying as a tourist, but I’m not sure if that’s still in place anymore.
Yes it’s quite handy since it stores not only vaccines but also test results and covid recovery history. Just a matter of logging into the portal and showing the QR code. Hopefully the rest of the world builds something similar since it makes things way easier.
Update: you need proof of negative test or vax to eat at any place in Austria. Also need it to check in at a hotel. However, there’s no mask requirement.
i'd bet very high odds delta there is collapsing last i saw, unless we get another spicy variant by then it'll be fine
What do you all think about Italy in early October? Delta's (the airline) new policies make it seem like I could cancel or change a flight within 10 days of takeoff without having to pay a fee. That at least makes me feel better about buying a flight a couple months out while delta (the virus) is spiking.
I was in Northern Italy and Rome mid-October to mid-November in 2019. I thought it was great tbh. There are wine harvest and chestnut festivals in all the towns in late September and early October. The Alps and Dolomite roads are still clear. The tourist crowd is lessened. Hell, I walked right up and was able to see the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua and The Last Supper in Milan…no reservations. The Florence sites were still crowded. Rome can still be pretty warm in early October. Lodging rates are coming down at that time though.
anyone used the do yourself covid test for return to the us friend has used the abbott self service one a few times without a hitch, but still hesitant
Sitting in the United club in Houston getting ready to board our flight to Aruba Wanted to grab a cocktail with breakfast but since Texas is a dumb state they don’t allow alcohol on Sunday until 10 am. Looking forward to sitting on the beach and unplugging for 2 weeks. got a COVID test on Thursday and the wait to see if it was negative was an incredibly stressful 2 hours. Now just need to avoid getting it down there
Appears Delta Variant is going to cancel most of our vacation plans. Wife doesn't want to travel with our unmasked kid. Probably going to just do a week in Fla. 2nd year in a row with no legit vacation suuuuuuicks
Perfect bluebird day for you, weather looks great. A couple years back I was there for 4th of July and they were setting record highs, hiking was miserable and then coming home to an apartment that was 85 inside didn’t help
fwiw this is a good write up https://www.google.com/amp/s/thepointsguy.com/news/abbott-at-home-covid-test/amp/
Rafted the nenana river in Denali today. Got some pictures of the mountain on our way out at almost midnight. It was great getting out so late since all the vantage points were empty so we were able to take it all in undisturbed. Not sure if I’ve been anywhere more beautiful.
So I chickened out on the solo Greece trip. Basically, I was nervous about traveling solo (not about safety or anything as a slightly overweight near 40 yr old isn't in high demand, more so actually being alone, which I don't enjoy), everything was looking pretty dang expensive for 19 days there, and, honestly, attempting to plan that long of a trip on my own was making me way too anxious (in the not good way). Instead I signed up to go to the Ukraine and Moldova from Oct. 15 - Oct. 31 with a friend. Anyone have any suggestions on either of those locations? We are planning to do a day tour to Chernobyl, and thinking we would drive from Kyiv over to Lviv, down to the mountains, into Moldova, then to Odesa, before heading back to Kyiv.
Has anyone purchased COVID travel insurance for their trips? Duck70 pointed me in the direction of Trawick International which offers coverage for expenses if you test positive on your trip. It looks legit from the reviews I’ve read. I guess if nothing else, it’s peace of mind.
I have been required to have it for my two work trips to Costa Rica in November and March. I used Sagicor since it was one of the two companies that work with the Costa Rican government. I think it was $11/day for $20k in coverage so I’d probably do it even if it wasn’t required
his videos are great hes also an insane person, him being a covid denier then getting covid after his weird belarus trip and telling people to be safe then his own audience bullying him into backtracking was incredible im pretty sure he flat out deleted all his videos related to him getting covid
One of my worst days evar was a vodka and shashlik soiree at a carp farm outside Khmelnitskiy that turned into a drunken circus when it rained in the evening and we couldn't get the cars out on the slippery dirt road and then when we finally did our car overheated because the driver didn't understand drive belts and then we nearly got run over by an army truck in the dark because he stopped in the middle of the road to look at what was wrong and then when we finally got back to our hotel we found out that my dad had left our hotel keys in the set of muddy pants that he changed out of at the carp farm and left there so we sat outside of the hotel for a few hours until they could open it up for us because USSR
he was laid up in the hospital I think for a couple of weeks from that…….all the travel vloggers I watch seem to be 100% covid deniers which is disappointing
