Heads Up to anyone heading to Zion National Park: as of 1/3/22 the Angels Landing trail will be by Permit Only. These will be be assigned via lottery. There will be two lotteries: a seasonal lottery and a daily lottery.
I’ll be flying into NYC this upcoming Thursday to watch Navy pull off the upset on Army at MetLife. I have Thursday night and Friday all day open. Thinking of hitting some breweries on Friday. Any recs by Other Half or other places to visit instead. Fancy or KJROD20 any help is appreciated.
I've never been through more annoying and chaotic border crossing in my life going from Costa Rica to Nica. I literally had my passports and covid tests checked 6 times, not lying. Had to get a stamp leaving CR, which made no sense. That was one line. Then had to get another stamp to enter Nica, which took like 20 min a person. Idk, dictatorship or something. They were also confiscating drones and covid tests
CDMX is legit one my favorite cities, but...Oaxaca de Juarez > CDMX. A tad bit cheaper, and just easier to get around. Not nearly as much pollution and a lot safer. CDMX likely has more food options based on being so damn big, but the quality of Oaxaca is fucking unmatched.
Where did you stay in Positano? Trying to find a good spot in that region and everything is either crazy expensive or kinda shitty.
Came across a Oaxacan wedding yesterday. Looked like a blast -- all the guys had little flasks around their neck and half the wedding party was carrying 12-packs
Blind Tiger, As Is, and Antler are solid beer bars. There are other breweries throughout NYC but it doesn’t seem like there’s a single area where they’re heavily concentrated. Other Half is definitely worth going to. I’m not sure any of the others really are.
Stayed at this Airbnb https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/20857768 Think we got it for like $300 a night, which was really good for that area. I liked the place. Just A LOT of stair climbing, but that’s the case for most positano.
Inside the walls it was just kinda touristy, lots of street vendors, and I was there when it was super humid and I got sick. Had also just left Santa Marta too which was amazing. It did seem like there was a pretty vibrant night life though.
Thanks. Gonna plan for OH on Friday. Also, I grabbed some tickets for David Byrne’s American Utopia on Friday night.
Anyone worried about getting back into the country with the new strain and travel restrictions. Wife is all worried about it and trying to nix my international travel plans for early 2022.
Yes. Going to Vienna for Christmas with three kids, then heading to Paris for NY with two and one flies home from Vienna. No idea what we're going to do if he tests positive before returning, or if any of us does before coming home from Paris
whats the new travel restrictions besides getting a rapid antigen test 24 hours before ? I’m currently abroad so want to make sure not missing anything new
My family's so dysfunctional I wouldn't be too terribly upset if I was forced to quarantine on a Mexican beach over Christmas
Never been but have done a fair amount of research because possibly buying someplace. Christmas on Kauai probably means southshore because Princeville/Hanalei gets nasty northern swells in winter. You may want to take a look at rentals at Kiahuna Plantation; it's a big complex very close to a really nice beach. If you're not interested in being able to walk out of your lanai and put your feet in the water, you might try Makahuena about a half mile to the east down on the rocky point. We're thinking of trying this place out in April - our partners are interested in buying a particular unit in this complex, but we aren't because the unit for sale looks out to the east where they're going to be doing a lot of construction/development - but we're still interested in whether another area of the complex might be a good buy at some point when prices stabilize. https://www.vrbo.com/172814
We did winter there. You want to stay on the South side. Poipu area for resorts and beaches. Waimea if you want more local and easier to get to hikes in the mountains. And make sure you get an SUV so you can get to Polihale Beach.
Today's office: Spoiler Playa Mermejita in Mazunte Which, unbeknownst to me when I booked this place, is also a nude beach. My GF is a huge hippie and is fucking love it. So we're just frolicking around in little-to-no clothing. Also picked up some hongos in San Jose del Pacifico on the way down, just adding fuel to the fire. Happy December 9 amigos.
And since I've been here last year, the WiFi is vastly improved, and they've added TWO more ATMs in town. Also switched to T-Mobile which has plans where you get full service in both Canada and Mexico, so that helps tremendously. I'm fairly certain this is my favorite place in the world. One of the few places I've traveled to more than once, and in less than a year's time.
Holy shit -- the beach we're on is super dangerous, warnings everywhere to not go swimming and certainly not got past the breakers. Ppl get up to their wastes but no further. Some guy just got past the breakers and got swept out, probably 100 yards, super fast. One lifeguard and a good Samaritan jumped in and it took a long time to get out to him. The guy was screaming for help the entire time, absolutely terrifying. They made it, but now they're about 150 yards offshore and going hard left (towards Mazunte). We could still see 3 heads bobbing before they went around the point. 20-25 ppl on the beach just watching in terror. It looks like they're going to make it, but I really don't know. One of the more intense things I've ever witnessed.
We're in Vienna for xmas as well, with my family, then NYE in Rome. Don't imagine the US will make things too difficult for citizens returning, beyond the 24hr test.
Colombia finalized. One month total, 12 days in Cartagena/Tayrona/hiking to Ciudad Perdida, then 18 days in Medellin. Then off to Brazil for 30-45 days. First 2 weeks in Sao Paulo, then Olinda for Carnaval, then staying in Bahia for the last 2-3 weeks. Afrikaburn 2022 looking a little dicey at the moment. $$$
Connor Norman I posted this on Reddit's Colombia page and got little response. Any insight? El Poblado or El Rosario/La Ceiba? I know Poblado is the main tourist part of downtown and probably the most popular for tourists. But, some of the airbnbs in Rosario/Ceiba look phenomenal, with views over the city and more rustic/camping, which is much more my style. Will there be a problem with internet that far out of the city? Easy to get an Uber into downtown? Are there any food options out there, or will I have to buy groceries and cook for myself? Just wondering if the beauty of the area would be worth the lack of amenities. Some examples of the airbnbs in Rosario: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/39801339 https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/48772517
I actually stayed in one of these with my wife a couple of nights back in March or April. It’s nice but a pain in the ass to get to. The roads aren’t finished so you’ll probably have a hard time getting a taxi or Uber to pick you up/take you all the way back to the house. My BIL’s car nearly got stuck. Also there isn’t much around there, so you basically have to just stock up on food/drinks and just hang out for a few days until you’re ready to leave. if you actually want to get to know the city, be able to walk around, nice restaurants, bars, etc then stay in Poblado. You can also look near El Tesoro as it’s a little further up the mountain (but still considered Poblado) so might be quiter with more of the view but still close enough that you can get around easy. Sabaneta or Envigado are good options too if you wanna avoid the touristy area of Poblado.
Also, if you need transportation to/from the airport I have a guy that always picks me up and he charges pretty much the same as a taxi.
That's what I'm looking for. Doesn't seem like it'd be worth it. I'll definitely take you up on that.
Life's a lot cheaper and easier with no mortgage and other expenses that come with living in the US my dude.
Dang I just looked at our firm amex and we have over a million Amex points. Need to do something with those. Is that similar to chase points ? Because that would be like $15k in travel credit in chase.
Hacienda Iguana is really chill. Not a ton to do here outside the beach, a beach bar for sunsets. San Juan del Sur is bigger and supposed to be cool. Poyopo is smaller. Outside it being a pain in the ass to get in, it's beautiful coadt line
Opted for the antigen test provided by the Hilton here in Mexico. Tests were negative, but we didn’t get the results back until 9:30 tonight. Fairly stressful when our flight is at 10 AM tomorrow but all is well. I figured we were in the clear an hour or two after our test without hearing any news, but it still sucks waiting to get the results. Oh well.
Need recommendations for nice midtown Manhattan hotel for December 29-January 1st. Looked at the Plaza, Four Seasons, and Ritz but they are already expensive and with the CHristmas/New Years pricing they are $1200-$1500 a night. Looking at the JW Marriot Essex House , a little better at $800 a night. I've stayed at the Omni Berkshire which isn't anything fancy but a lot cheaper.
