Ha thanks. The logo was one of the first things I got done, years ago. Really love how it turned out. Feel free to purchase, we happily ship.
Awesome stuff. This takes me back many years to a TMB-like board of PAC12 fans that I was a member of called The Pit (AptosDuck). One of the guys won half a million on Who Wants To Be a Millionaire and bought a Taco Del Mar franchise. He trained his employees that if someone came in and ordered the “Lemon Party Special” that they were to get free guac and a drink. Good times laughing when my grade school aged kids would proudly order the LPS.
I’m not much of a beach person so a trip of just sitting on the beach and doing nothing is my nightmare. I’m much more of a city person and obviously there aren’t many built up cities in the Caribbean. Along with that I like to travel to experience different cultures and you don’t get much of that in the Caribbean. My wife likes the beach so our trips are usually half the time in a city or two and then the back half at a beach or lake. For me it’s worth it to spend more (or apparently maybe not more) to go to Europe, Asia or SA so we can do those kind of trips that check all our boxes. It’s an admittedly douchey take on traveling. But being in our 30s with no plans to have kids allows us the freedom to take 10-14 days off once or twice every year. We also love going to new places and not repeating countries/cities so our list of places we want to go is very long.
Welp just booked everything and this trip ended up being expensive af. The Belmond at St. Martin was $5070 for 5 nights, plus $2,623 for the flights. Couldn't get comfort plus on the way there but got it on the way back. Then I'm budgeting another $3,875 for food, drinks, bars, excursions. So the whole thing will be $11,568. Seems ultra expensive for 5 nights. Hopefully it blows my socks off.
I've heard great things about Belmond, such as they arrange rides, activities, excursions, etc. all on the house. I think they took a friend up to Machu Picchu. For that price, I hope they give you a boat and a private captain or something along those lines. Maybe a guy to carry you around St. Martin on his back.
I spent less than half of that on a 3 day/2 night Safari and did copious drugs at Afrikaburn - RT flights to Cape Town included. Different strokes for different folks -- nothing wrong with vibing in the lap of luxury.
I am looking at doing the "Snowman's Trek" next year, a 30 day trek through the Himalayas in Bhutan that's billed as the hardest hike in the world. Runs about $10K, not including flights.
Thought about doing an African safari for my honeymoon. Priced out what I thought was a pretty legit East African safari for ~10 days and it was around $14k (excluding flights and pre-covid).
Yeah I couldn't really put together a way to do it any cheaper than about that without sacrificing a ton either.
Yeah, just checked my emails. 7 nights in Tanzania in the Serengeti plus 3 nights in Zanzibar was $7k per person.
What's the ballpark? Going to talk shit to my buddy. Didn't really think about what it cost until just now
Don't remember off hand but just remember it being such a number I'd be waiting a few years to price it out again
I haven't looked at any of that in the post COVID travel gold rush but imagine those types of trips specifically have sky rocketed. Just a back log of bucket list trip demand.
also I think the east africa safari pricing is very dependent on the type of year you're trying to go. I was looking to do the great migration during prime time, and gonna have to put that off for now.
page or link to hotel or Bnb that anyone has stayed at in Barcelona? not much luck finding specifics during key word search
Rough plan is 3 night in Athens, 5 or 6 nights in Santorini (maybe a night or two in Paros or Naxos during that span), Naples/Amalfi Coastal City for 2 or 3 nights and then Rome to finish it. Need to find the right balance of relaxing but seeing a lot of places we would like to see.
Others may think different but I wouldn’t spend much, if any, time in Naples. Stick to the amalfi coast or Rome. I spent just one night there after seeing Pompeii and should’ve just taken a train to Rome that night instead. Pizza was good tho
my #1 recommendation in the world is L'avant Comptoir de la Mer in Paris, it's not on google maps but is next door to de la Terre I don't think anyone has gone but it's the best casual eating experience if you can snake one of the two tables
That’s the right way to do it. Book tours ahead of time if you plan to see the Coliseum and The Vatican. I wouldn’t do them on the same day. I also recommend no fewer than 3 days in Rome. It is my understanding that you have to reserve a time to get into The Pantheon now. And The Pantheon is something you do not want to miss.
Damn I flew round trip to st Thomas for like $130 and paid like $100 a night for beach bungalow at Frenchmans cove. Now everything there was outrageous, the worst cheeseburger of my life was like $30 but flights and hotel were super cheap.
Other than incredible pizza Naples is a dump. We took train from Rome, ate pizza then ferry to Sorrento. So glad we didn't stay in Naples.
Doing Munich for 6 nights in July. Want to add on another city before that we can then get to Munich via train. Vienna or Zurich appear to be the best options. Anyone have recs on one over the other? Assuming Vienna. Also, how much of a pain is it going to be in the train with my wifes massive checked bag?
What are you interested in doing/seeing? We went to Vienna because my wife wanted to see Beethoven stuff. It’s not a bad city by any means but it wasn’t my favorite. I would consider somewhere else in Germany tbh.
Vienna is a nice city but a bit quite. Zurich is similar, a bit more of a big city feel. With Zurich it will be more expensive and high end but there is some Swiss charm in areas.
I absolutely loved Vienna, especially if you’re a history person. Zurich is nice too but I thought it more of a business center and Vienna more akin to a Paris. I’m a history nerd but I thought it had some of the best museums I’ve ever been in and was in general just a beautiful city with quite a lot to do.
I'm biased towards Vienna, but if you're looking to be closer to Munich you could try flying into Frankfurt and spending some time in a place like Rothenburg before hitting Munich. Or you could fly into Salzburg and take a side trip to Hallstatt. Innsbruck/Seefeld/Igls and Hall are picturesque if you like outdoorsy activities. Sorry to muddle things but Europe's transportation infrastructure is such that you don't have to confine yourself to large cities, no matter how big your wife's suitcase is
Halstatt is a great rec. I would do Geneva over Zurich for the major Swiss cities tbqh but I could see how some might prefer Zurich. Both are great but very different. If this is your first time in Switzerland though, you have to do the Alps down in the Interlaken area (Grindelwald, Murren, Lauterbrunen- forgive my spelling). Do that over any Swiss city. You can visit cool cities in many countries, there is only one area like THAT in the world
Nobody ever regrets staying a few days in Wengen As for Hallstatt: https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/travel-news-hallstatt-austria-selfie-fence/index.html
did this happen to you? I saw an instagram ad that they supposedly have to rebook you and pay you 4x the cost of your ticket if you get bumped no idea if that’s true tho. But that wouldn’t be the worst fate
The rare backlash when it happens is outweighed by the additional revenue and hypothetically cost savings for the customers. They should have enough data to predict pretty well which flights they can push it on. Delta CEO recently said it was like 102% on average and they might push it a little more. I do agree if they get stuck in a situation the "punishment" or payback should be rather substantial to the flier
About to find out. They told me it's overbooked when I checked in, at the gate now and they said it's over by 5 ppl, will know when we start boarding in 30 min. It's Viva Aerobis, doubt they have a strong reimbursement policy. I'm pretty fortunate that this has never happened to me with how much I fly. Fingers crossed.
