Going to Italy for Honeymoon. Primarily Rome and Florence with a day or 2 in Naples. Open to any recommendations, especially for food. Going in October.
Usually use them when flying out of Tijuana. Treated myself to Aeromexico on my bday. No discernible difference.
If you haven’t already booked Naples, skip it and head a little farther south to Sorrento or elsewhere on the Amalfi coast. It’s really easy by train.
What restaurants did you end up settling on? Booking a Florence / Tuscany trip now, did you stay at a hotel or a house at Gaiole in Chianti? You're right the choice is overwhelming
pizza is good and Pompeii is definitely worth it but you can get a private driver for like 200 euros that will take you from the Naples train station to pompeii and wait for you and then take you to sorrento or somewhere on the amalfi coast. Or vice versa.
L’Angoletto Romano. Located at Via Monterone, 14, Rome. Just off of Largo Argentina on a side street to The Pantheon. It’s easy to walk right by it without seeing it. Small place, inexpensive, great food especially if you order the traditional Roman dishes. If you go almost all of the patrons will be locals.
I feel like Napoli is getting a bad rap ITT lately so I’ll pipe up and say I enjoyed the city and think spending a night there is a good call if you have the time. Offers a different experience to the rest of Italy where there is less touristy stuff to see but then it has a bit more character. It’s worth it to explore the narrow streets, the Maradona murals, eating pizza, etc.
I really enjoyed Osteria Cinghiale Bianco in Florence. Acqua 2 also had a pretty cool lunch thing where they'd let you try small portions of many different types of pasta. It's heavy but a cool sampler, though I've since been told that's not all that uncommon in Italy. I second this. Just fly into Naples and head to Amalfi.
i think south beach is the worst place i've ever looked for reasonable hotel prices can't even find sneaky point redemptions, then again i've spent most of those already.
I stayed at the Plymouth Hotel last week which was reasonable priced for the area and I enjoyed it. I'd stay there again and is worth you checking out if you're OK with a boutique hotel. It's more mid-Miami Beach than South, but it is walkable to many places.
We stayed at a hotel. One thing to know is that it’s somewhat difficult to travel to/from the different villages in the Chianti region unless you rent a car or hire a private driver. I made dinner reservations at a place that was only 20 miles from Gaiole in Chianti as the crow flies but a 40 minute drive. It was 200 euro to hire a driver and there were no Ubers. Point being, stay somewhere that allows you to walk into a village and not too isolated
Not bad at 160 a night. Basically all we ever want is relatively quiet and good ac. Don't mind walking a ways to get to the center either

I have an AA flight credit that can only be used on domestic flights. I'm trying to book a Caribbean trip and found a multi-city arbitrage booking and AA won't let me book it. So I try to break it up and get to the finish line and then get an error message saying the flight credit can't be booked online; can only be done by contacting reservations. And that's a black hole.
One of the finest meals I’ve ever had was at the place below. On the OpenTable comments section, told them it was my honeymoon and they gave us the table right next to the window (only about a dozen tables total), so candle lit table next to a super old cobblestone alley. And the food was next level. Highly recommend Degusteria Italiana +39 055 493 9867 https://maps.app.goo.gl/b7wSH25ffvPPkyX2A?g_st=ic
the AC was great and it’s nice and quiet and only about two blocks from the beach. I believe the small resort fee covers beach chairs and service out there too but double check that. The rooms were updated but it had an old school Miami vibe for sure which I liked. I actually prefer mid beach to south beach and I think you will too if you want quiet. It’s definitely Miami Beach but just far enough outside of the craziness.
We stayed here in Sorrento: https://www.hotelleone.com/ Nothing fancy, but very reasonably priced for a pool, pool bar, private parking, and three blocks from the train station for a quick trip to Pompei. Our rooms had private balconies that looked out on a lemon grove.
Also those who are a lot more world traveled than me, how will I catch a football game in Italy? Is it as simple as watching on YouTube TV?
If you're really desperate, bring an Ipad and stream on Crackstreams, sportsurge, or buffstreams. But with the time change and stuff not sure if it's worth it.
I think you can get a lot of college football games on regular YouTube. Never done it myself but someone here suggested it.
You can’t stream YouTube tv outside of the US. And streaming thru espn or other apps doesn’t work either.
Hoping to watch the UCL final in Italy on June 10th. There's an Italian team in the match. Surely I can get it somewhere, right?
Heading to Charleston for Memorial Day weekend just to get a little beach time and eat some good seafood. Will happily take recs for bars, breweries and restaurants. Flying solo so not looking for nicer sit-down spots.
Yes it will be on everywhere. I was in Positano during a europa league match featuring Napoli and it was crazy. Every time they scored you could hear the entire city cheering from their houses
Back from Scotland - here are my glasgow recs: Food - Ox and Finch - we ate lunch there as its on the Michelin Gourmand list for great food at moderate prices. It was one of the top meals of our trip. Everything there was awesome and very reasonably priced. Ardnamurchan - we ate here for dinner one night as its top rated by locals, but thought it was just ok. Good haggis and fish. If you are walking near the Kelvingrove area MacTassos is a little greek food truck that has incredible gyros and wraps. Drinks - The Pot Still - great place for whisky and even if you have no idea which kinds you like they will do flights at very reasonable prices. Good vibe and helpful staff. Scotia Bar - Oldest bar in Glasgow, cool spot that hasn't been touched much in years. I spent the majority of my trip Islay, Oban, Skye, Plockton, up to Orkney & Shetland, down to Inverness, so if you are in any of those areas and need any spots let me know
I watched FSU-Miami two years ago in Iceland on Youtube TV. Just set my VPN to the US and worked like a charm.
Not trying to persuade you to visit the Caribbean because I can understand different strokes for different folks, but there are a lot of decent sized cities (obviously no where near the level of NYC, Chicago, or even Charlotte) around the area on the different islands. And there are for sure tons of slightly different cultures down there. Great mix of European, African, and indigenous populations. Heck, part of the Caribbean actually speaks a language that I have only encountered down there, Papiamento. Haven't tried South Beach ever but I am always floored at the cost of hotels in the Asheville, NC area.
No problem, over three trips I now feel like I've done 90% of Scotland so feel free to ask if you have any other areas.
I head to Norway in a week and a few more things popped up. - How do you handle your cell phone? I have Verizon and I guess I need to call them to see what charges would be. - Should I bring cash with me? How much?
This is always personal preference. You can check your bank if you think you'll need cash upon arrival. I usually get local currency before I go if there isn't an ATM partner or I need cash for tips/transfers/etc. If not, check to see your global ATM alliance partner is and see if they have a partner in Norway. That is usually the easiest way to withdraw local currency and avoid any fees. I'd assume Norway you can get by with very little cash, but could be wrong.
Don’t bring cash. You won’t ever need it and if you bring some and go to use it some places won’t even accept it, have change, will be annoyed with you etc.
Wife and I did highlands from Edinburgh to Inverness to Fort William to Skye. How does the northern part and islands compare?
First time staying in Mazunte not during winter. Holy hell it is hot. But it's bearable when this is your WFH for the next month. Spoiler In between yoga classes and training from here Spoiler
