Re: Copenhagen I even enjoyed Tivoli and if you get bored walk around Freetown Christiana I'm sure you have plenty of dinner spots, so I can recommend Christianshavns Færgecafé for lunch. Great smorgasbord on a boat in an awesome neighborhood
besides the obvious historic sites, if you get time the catacombs were really cool, and there are some fantastic museums with ancient Roman art. hard to go wrong with food in Italy, just avoid really touristy looking spots this worked for us in 2016 and was the day I fell in love with Rick Steves
also just generally if you’re going to Europe, buy the Rick Steves guidebook for the place you’re going, no other guidebook touches how good his are
I've said it before, but IMO Michelangelo's most compelling work is the sculpture of Moses in San Pietro in Vincoli, about a 15 minute walk northish of the Colosseum. Worth it
I just googled this and it looks like something I would make around midnight on a Saturday after a day of drinking and consider myself a culinary genius
They're pretty similar. St Lucia is more tropical imo. I’d just figure out which one would be cheaper and go for it both are volcano islands, so don’t expect the same beaches as the flag rock islands are you 100% set on those two only?
Was gonna book today, trying to fly out on a Thursday, but there are no direct flights from Chicago and the only flights connecting flights we could take leave O'Hare at 5 am, which just isn't going to work in terms of child care. Any other suggestions?
I enjoyed Saint Martin over both of the ones you mentioned. BVI over all of them I went to grand cayman this summer and absolutely loved it. But depends what you want to do. I wanted to sit on the beach and drink beer and eat local food, which grand cayman excelled at. It as also easy and cheap to get to going to try and do Antigua next
Will be in Bangkok March 1-8 for work trip. Thinking about extending to Chiang Mai after but reading all the air quality posts. Should I be good mid March or don’t even risk it?
It'll be close, that's the end of the season. You could extend your trip and then decide while there, domestic flights within Thailand are super cheap. If Chiang Mai is still smokey, could easily head south the islands instead (not sure on weather that time of year).
Anybody spent time in Slovenia? Made up an itinerary last night of 15 days flying into and out of Ljubljana, with visits to Maribor, Bled, and Piran. Day trips to Hochosterwitz and Trieste. Wondering if I've left anything important out
Finding good food in Venice takes effort and everything expensive as fuck I met Jeff goldblum so all in all big win
I’m doing Scottsdale in a couple weeks and planning to stay in Sedona on the way back from the Grand Canyon. Any hotel recs?
Saw this a few weeks ago. Might still be valid https://slickdeals.net/f/17002327-e...-nov-2023-thru-feb-2024?src=SiteSearchV2Algo1
Enchantment is the only one I’ve stayed at up there and it was free. So it was damn nice at that price. Grab a reservation at Elote Cafe though. Good restaurants around Sedona are extremely limited.
St. Martin on the French side. Airbnb in Grand Case for amazing restaurants. Rent a car and beach hop
Wife and I went to St. Martin for our honeymoon. Stayed at L’Esplanade https://www.lesplanade.com/gallery There was a little walking path directly down to Grand Case so we would just walk around and randomly choose amazing 4 and 5 star restaurants in these little shanty’s and bungalows. Such a great place. Need to get back there.
We spent Labor Day weekend in Grand Cayman, in part thanks to this thread’s discussion on Caribbean islands outside of the hurricane zone. Stayed at the Palm Heights which I have subsequently learned has gained quite a reputation with youths that enjoy taking pictures of themselves and posting those pictures on the internet. totally agree that if you want to just lie on the beach, drink pina coladas and beers and eat amazing seafood, Grand Cayman is hard to beat. We only did one excursion to go snorkeling and swim with sting rays and I was totally fine with that.
Definitely my favorite place so far in the Caribbean. The French restaurants and food was the difference.
St. John has some great food too and definitely has better beaches, coves, snorkeling, etc. Take a boat to Lime Out.
Oh yeah, already booked Lime Out for Friday. Brought down a turkey too and are doing that on Thursday.
I’ve only been to Ljubljana but it remains one of my favorite cities in Europe. Its the perfect size city for being able to just walk around and explore. Theres not a ton to do tourism wise outside of the castle but just hanging along the canal at one of the many restaurants or bars is a great way to spend time. Heard nothing but good things about Lake Bled.
That's my impression of Ljubljana. I switched trains there in 1981 when it was a drab and dreary socialist provincial capital, until recently didn't think about returning. Wife has seen pictures and is enchanted by the place. Before she was sent to Vienna as a teenager, my great grandmother was born and grew up in or near Maribor, and I've got pictures of her and my grandmother standing on a bridge there in 1937; I want to find that bridge and recreate the pictures. Bled is Bled, I've heard really good things about Piran, and I just found out about some cave complexes at Postojna that sound pretty cool
Headed to Big Sky in 2 days. Big house booked on big sky vacation rentals. 4 kids coming in total so we looked all over for a house with bunk beds, games etc since the kids won't really ski or tube. Just got a message saying the boiler is broken and they have to rebook us. Looking at reviews, it's been broken for like a month. Good times. Can't wait to see what they put us in instead.
Officially in hell. Flew out this morning with the family en route to in laws place in Aspen. Connection in dfw gets delayed numerous times. Out of nowhere we get to board, get on runway. Right before takeoff “lights on aspen runway are out we are heading back to gate”. Try to get our bags off plane, get told 3 different things. I had to shuttle back to the airport tonight 4 hours later solo after everyones sleeping to get family of 4 bags, car seats, etc just to do it again to Denver first thing tomorrow morning. I honestly just want to stay there cause it was our final destination anyway. I am cursed traveling and could have cried numerous times today.
