I think a lot of us have been to Zilara Rose Hall. It's a nice property. The food was good and the pool/beach were great.
The only concerns I have are from people in a FB group complaining about the beach being “too rocky.” But people will bitch about anything so it’s not going to greatly impact our decision. We are considering Secrets St. James now too. https://www.stjamesmontegobay.com/ https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_R...y-Montego_Bay_Saint_James_Parish_Jamaica.html
Sandals is crazy on the prices. Food was great. No complaints. It’s been so long but I think the beach was on the smaller side? We had fun. Good shows and activities or just chill in the swim up or go to the big pools.
We almost did Adare on our last trip to Ireland, but went to Dromoland Castle instead and that may be my favorite hotel I've ever stayed at.
Waiting for the basement bar to open but it’s supposed to be stupid nice. Currently at the spa pool and did falconry earlier.
Would recommend Grappolo D'Oro when anyone is in Rome. Its on Michelin Bib Gourmand. 10/10 Got Pipero on deck for tonight
Saw the news about a new PDX > AMS route on KLM launching this fall. Decided to check award availability for next summer... Just snagged 2x Biz Class awards for 50k miles each. Too good not to get
Pipero was very good. Did All'Oro tonight and it was awesome. Also Jerry Thomas Speeakeasy is pretty fucking cool. You just need to make a res online so they can give you the password
My parents flew into DCA this morning. I just spent over an hour on the phone with my mom trying to explain to her how to get public transit directons on her phone. I have no clue how this is about to turn out.
My parents made it from Heathrow Airport to my town’s train station without incident last week; I was pretty proud of them.
Is there a Bay Area thread? I’ve been wanting to plan a trip that includes visiting SF and climbing in Yosemite. I haven’t been to SF since 2019. My assumption is there are some areas I need to steer clear of but most is still safe/walkable? Yes the Pearsall news made me finally ask this question but it’s been on my mind.
SF has gotten a lot worse since 2019, but have general awareness of your surroundings & you should be perfectly fine.
Doing a week in Peru first week of December. Planning on 3 nights in Lima and the rest Cusco/Macchu Pichu I think. Anybody got any tips? Lima is pretty safe? Any must-dos besides Macchu Pichu?
Went through Union square last week and walked all over from fisherman's wharf down to Union square and over to ferry building. Was in better shape than during COVID and was fine.
I go through Union Sq pretty much every time I'm in the city and that news is unlikely to change anything about that fact. Kinda funnysad that the multiple "mobile command" trailers they've had stationed down there in response to the "looting" concerns didn't prevent that shooting...
Went to SF for the Chelsea-Wrexham match at the end of July and stayed at the Hyatt Place by Oracle. Amazingly was not mugged or anything. We walked from the metro to Rintaro and a brewery with two young kids. Just be aware of your surroundings and you’ll be fine.
I get dragged to North Beach a couple times a year and never have any problems, other than finding parking. Wife stepped in homeless shit at the Moscone Center
Avoid SOMA, Union Square, Tenderloin, Fisherman's Wharf, and anything on Market St from the Ferry Building to 15th and you'll be fine
I walked through the Tenderloin at dusk back in June. If I wasn't a relatively decent sized man, I'd probably had been uncomfortable. Sketchy strung out folks everywhere. But probably a false sense of security considering we see an NFL WR getting robbed in day light in a similar area. Def walked back home after dinner through another n'hood and avoided the tenderloin.
the tenderloin is skid row but it has a basic name so people don't realize its been avoided for decades if not more the tenderloin and union square are walkable to each other but in no way similar areas
If you want to enjoy the city for a quick trip and are looking for hotels, I would avoid those neighborhoods. I lived there for 7 years (in most of those neighborhoods) and don't recommend spending much time there for any tourists. What is "can't miss" in those places?
KC seems to have finally been blessed by Delta with nice new A220s and A319s replacing the ancient 717s to LGA/DTW/MSP. Quite the upgrade for your favorite NFL fans
Booked 4 nights at sandals Montego Bay in November. We’ve been trying to get away but we short staffed so it’s been hard getting to use my time
Food recommendations in Paris? Specifically for a 40th birthday celebration? Staying here: Maison Astor Paris, Curio Collection by Hilton https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/parahqq-maison-astor-paris/

I've walked through Tenderloin with my sister to go to Brendas Soul Food. was not murdered, mugged or became addicted to heroin on my walk
I spent 24 hours in SF/OAK this past weekend and nothing happened. Very anticlimactic. KOAK is a nice little airport though as long as you don't mistakenly get the San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport mixed up with, you know, the San Francisco International Airport
