I honestly don't mean to come off like I'm complaining about you guys liking something. The only purchase breaking issue for me is the Data transfer issue and I'm learning from this thread that it's an ongoing issue from Nintendo. I am absolutely struggling with the idea of purchasing this because I want very badly to experience BOTW. This generation has been low on classic titles and Zelda seems to be the most heralded game in years. I appreciate all the complaints and recommendations from this thread. It's what I expected of it early on
I feel ya. It'll have things to iron out like any other console. The worst thing that ever happened to this industry was making it ok to release an unfinished product (lookin at you, Ubisoft). That data transfer issue should also be fixable. I don't see how it's possible to fuck that up but here we are. We might honestly inherit the greatest library of games once they get the Virtual Console up and running. Basically all Zelda and Mario games and a severely underrated Wii U and GameCube library. There's a lot of top 10 all-time metacritic games in there.
lazytweaker I totally get your worries, but I will say it's as good, if not better, than what I expected. BotW runs amazingly, handheld or docked. The worst part right now, in my opinion, is lack of game options. There's stuff like messaging and voice chat that I'd love to be able to do, and I'm sure it'll eventually be an option, but it hasn't altered game play or anything. Also, after I downloaded the original update, I haven't noticed any issues with the left joycon. May just be me tho
I know not everyone will be like me with this, but I think I'm gonna play it in handheld a majority of the time.
Im not sure of the big N's expectations but i really hope the original Wii isnt it. That thing has a mass market appeal that no gaming console really has had. The Switch is much closer to being for people who like games than the Wii which was for anyone who liked anything. Wide age net for the Wii too.
zelda def looks like i could put a few hundred hours into it. i don't really understand why mk8 isn't a launch title considering it is a remaster. hell, they probably should have remastered a few more wiiu games because no one played them. this exact launch plus xenoblade, mk8, splatoon, and ssb remasters with virtual console would have been great.
My guess is they wanted to continue to iron out the online component and test the traffic before launching what will surely be a massively popular online game.
prerecordedlive coming in hot af I'll complain my left controller sucks. I'll also say I'm having more fun with Zelda than any game I've played going back more than a decade. For how expensive the Joycons are it's not unreasonable to want the bitch to work from my couch without putting the console on the ceiling and not letting my knees get in front of the controller.
I haven't played it on TV in three days. But I've logged too many hours to count (mostly because they don't have a gamelog anymore) in bed each night.
so i have something weird... when my switch is docked and not in use, my TV will try to change to the source i have it on every few minutes. i could be on my ps4 or whatever, and my tv automatically switches to the source that the switch is on. sometimes it's every three minutes, sometimes it's 30 minutes.
snipperclips is a fun little game. Second best game they launched after Zelda Nice little puzzle game to play with people
My fiancé is the ultimate troll on that game. Finally scooped a fish up? She's gonna knock that shit through the floor.
I don't have HDMI 2 (where the Switch is plugged in) as an option until I turn on the Switch. Kind of weird. Really hope they add the stuff that Xbox has where I can just turn on the console and have all of my stuff turn on simultaneously and then turn off when I put it to sleep.
i wonder if it's a tv thing. anytime i turn something on my tv switches to that source automatically.
I've never played a game where I did practically nothing for two and a half hours and was disappointed when my battery warning flashed and I had to quit. I will stumble upon some giant bobokin stronghold and spend the rest of my playing time figuring out how to infiltrate it, kill everyone and get the treasure while using as little weapons as possible. In the end the treasure is a sword that's probably not any better than what I have, but I don't even care that I just spend 2 1/2 hours on nothing. The only time the game has felt even close to boring is when I was doing the first dungeon sequence. All the dialogue, fetch-questing, and dungeon puzzle-solving took me back to playing the bloated Twilight Princess and childish, hand-holding Skyward Sword. Everything is more refined and streamlined in BOTW though, but it still was the most "familiar" part of the game. The rest of the time, I'm just cruisin through towns, killing deer, raiding bobokin camps, and completing shrines. I've put maybe 50 hours into the game and have only done one dungeon and maybe a quarter of the shrines.
I'm sitting on 20 out of 120 shrines. Possibly my favorite part so far. Some of them are mindless but some have been pretty demanding.
Been playing Zelda during lunch at work all week and having a pretty good experience with that. Sells me on the portable home console feature a bit. Just don't really have any other time I'm going to play it on the go, though, outside of occasional travel. I really, really like the pro controller. Its shape feels pretty great in my hands and the layout works much better for me. Overpriced, like all the Switch accessories, but worth it for me.
My boss has a gifted way of making you feel you're doing something wrong if you're taking a break during your break or else I'd be doing the same.
That is the worst. If you don't want your people taking a break, don't offer a f***ing break. Grinds my gears.
So, when I first turned on the Switch at launch, I skipped all TV and Internet set-up steps (was in the process of moving and had just canceled my cable/internet. I haven't bothered since then, as I have just been playing on the go. Well, I'm filming in New Orleans, and I decided to hook it up to the TV...nope Audio from the Switch went through, but not the video. I switched to another HDMI cord, and still nothing. I looked online, and saw that some people had this problem and fixed it with the update/patch. So, I tried to connect to the internet, and it wouldn't connect and flashed an error message. Fuck. Fortunately, I can still play in handheld mode, but I'd like to at least be able to hook up to the internet. Apparently, this is mostly due to me not initially connecting the system at launch with TV/internet.
Try holding power + both volume buttons on top. It'll enter recovery mode and you'll have the option to reset to factory defaults WHILE keeping your save data intact. Don't trust me 100% on that last part but I've seen some redditors post screencaps of that option and they've said it works.
The gamelog unlocks on your profile after 10 days. Apparently I've put in over 45 hours of Zelda. I've only done two of the four dungeons, and finished a little over 50 of the 120 shrines. This game will probably tide me over until Summer.
Nice! I'm glad there are so many shrines. For some reason I thought there were like 30. This game will take up most of my gaming for the foreseeable future.
yeah i'm starting to get into the do x/y/z before the shrine pops up then you just go in to get your reward
About to break 100 hours on Zelda. Got 3 dungeons finished and am intentionally delaying the last one till I get more shrines. Almost have 90 of them.
ran around hyrule castle today clearing guardians to buy gear not sure i'm going to be able to get all the memories before i beat the game, i dont have the willpower to hold off
If you have the money to burn just get the Switch. Invest for the future. That said, if you're not planning on getting a switch for a while the game plays the exact same on WiiU, minus load times
That's NOJ's doing. WiiSports was only paced-in here in the states. In Asia and Europe it was sold separately. Iwata was willing to allow it because the NA market is big, but Kimishima seems more old school and thinks a mini-game collection with Nintendo's brand is worth paying that much more.
Had a ton of fun playing 1 2 Switch tonight for 3 others. There's a few games in there that are just outrageously funny to either play or watch people play.
I think it's a blast, but it's one of those games where communication between partners is the key. If your opponent is dumb as bricks you may have trouble with it. If you're both good problem solvers, it's a lot of fun.
The other day BestBuy did their noon release on-line and I was actually able to order a switch and NES Classic. I was on the fence about getting the switch - but it's being delivered today. What do I need to get for it? Mario Kart when it is released is a must, but for now I'm thinking of Zelda and 1 2 Switch - do I need to get an extra switch controller? What is the use of the 'normal' looking controller? Do I need a micro SD?
Everyone says you need the pro controller to comfortably play games like Zelda. Also. Snipper clips seems to be the best 2 player game on the market so far. I think I'm going to wait for version two of the switch. You know a version with a larger Hard drive is 6 months away.
Get Zelda for sure. 1 2 Switch if you host people or have family members that like a casual experience. I played it with extended family this weekend and they loved it.
This happens with every console. There is always a follow up version that fixes the bugs of the initial release that comes out 6 ish months after the original.
