    Is NBA Playgrounds any good?

Is it a lot like NBA Jam with over the top shot accuracy and exaggerated animations or just mostly sim basketball with cartoony graphics?

Not sure. It was a broken mess when it was first released and it took them so long to patch it to a working state that they opted to just remove it from the eshop in the interim. I see they just reposted it with new content that previous purchasers will inherit.

So I’d pump the brakes on that game.

nintendo supposed to announce something today.

    https://www.theverge.com/2018/1/17/...h-interactive-experience-feature-announcement

Nintendo announced a number of new titles for the Switch last week, and now it’s ready to launch something entirely new. A teaser has appeared on Nintendo’s UK site hinting at a “new interactive experience for Nintendo Switch that’s specifically crafted for kids and those who are kids at heart.” Nintendo says “tune in” later today, so it’s presumably some type of live stream announcement.

Eurogamer speculates that it could be a new Switch accessory, and that Nintendo is looking to entice more people to purchase a Switch as the console enters its second year on the market. “In order to be playable in the long term, the second year is crucial,” Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima told newspaper Mainichi recently. “Our task is to add more users, including people who barely touch game consoles.”

Nintendo will be making its surprise announcement at 5PM ET / 2PM PT / 10PM GMT

It's Cardboard Wii and I love it

Nintendo will never stop innovating, or thinking of new ways to experience a game.

They put everyone else in the market place to shame.

To be fair, you're not paying for the cardboard so much as you're playing for the compatible games. I'll be shocked if the price for replacement boards is very much at all.

The giant robot pack set (installation and game) is $80, so they're marketing this as a special product.

No price yet on replacement boards though.

$70 gets you the variety pack with lots of smaller games.

Man the 3D printing community is going to go nuts for this one. There will be some outrageous designs to work with the jetpack and robot games in particular

Just showed my kids. I guess it's a day one purchase now.

I can't help but laugh at how Nintendo sees things so differently from everyone else.

AAA Publishers: Let's create super-powerful game machines that immerse the player in virtual reality worlds so lifelike you won't even know it's not real.

Nintendo: LET'S USE CARDBOARD CUT-OUTS AND IMAGINATION!

    details on the $70 pack:

•28 Cardboard Sheets (Kits have multiples for backups/designing)

    •3 Reflective Sheets (for design).

    •3 Sponge Sheets (Foam paper).

    •Various colors of String.

•Various Eyelets (metal circle to put string through.

    •Many Elastic bands with spares.

•The game cart that includes software for...

    The Piano.

    The Car.

    The Fishing Rod.

    The House.

    The Motorcycle.

GAMES are separate from the KITS. In other words each Kit has more than one game. Both the bike and piano have at least two different games that use those kits. So the Kits are like controls for specific games, with future games capable of using them too.

Any developer/publisher could conceivably ship a game with a new kit of their own making, expanding the concept's usage exponentially.

This sounds good in theory but if it is like the Wii it won't be that exciting. basically Nintendo does the best job of integrating this type of stuff. 3rd parties will bolt on some accessory and some half-assed control scheme for it....and you'll end up just playing without it.

if the game is built for the accessory thats one thing (think golf) but for the most part its a throwaway for 3rd parties.

This is pure genius. Instead of coming up with a few new pieces of hardware, that would probably be crazy expensive and they wouldn’t even profit that much off, they can create a shit ton of new “hardware” that uses the same tech everyone already has, and make us build it ourselves and enjoy doing so, while still paying a way higher premium over the actual material for it than if it was real hardware.

This is a sneaky attempt to teach children the basics of game design.

That little man you control features very rudimentary coding display on the gamepad that you have to use to get the man to move.

We used to play 4 person monopoly on the original Xbox. They had a mode where everyone rolled at the same time and all the transactions were automated. Could finish a game in under 30 minutes. Was really enjoyable, which I wouldn't expect playing a board game on a gaming system.

Xenoblade is opening up for me finally. I’m glad I’m starting to figure out these field skills. I was releasing generic blades at the beginning as I didn’t really understand their purpose. I love the merc missions to level them up now.
