They really do need to become a software company. I'm not a huge handheld guy so if they never made another piece of hardware I wouldn't care, but I get why they would. Imagine being able to play Mario or Zelda on PS4, that is what I would put out my money for.
I just find their consoles too gimmicky tbh. I would love to play the games they make but I'm not gonna purchase a console just to play a game every other year.
exactly how i feel. on another note, the Japanese are so weird. Watching the event now, the videos are beyond bizarre.
The Splatoon portion was so uncomfortable for me. I made my girlfriend watch and she was like "is this what we're getting? Are we buying a tentacle porn machine?"
The 1-2 Switch thing was weird and horrific, as was the Splatoon thing, I agree. And how the fuck do you not lead the games section with Mario? I get leaving something for a big finish but still. And not having Mario out at launch is disappointing, a full year for a flagship game is a long time to wait. Unless Zelda is a launch title, i'm not sure about that.
Other than Mario and Zelda, i saw nothing I am excited for and the event was kinda garbage. Still glad that Nintendo is back and they definitely did well with the price and release date.
watching the Kinda Funny reacts right now, the pricing of the accessories didn't sink in until then. \ but holy fuckballs, that's beyond ridiculous for those prices, definitely puts a damper on the whole thing. Maybe this will be the last straw that makes them re-think hardware.
Nintendo really thrives off nostalgia and mediocre innovation. People who will buy this are staunch Nintendo heads or people who like to have the newest systems.
Gonna go with the ole Dan Patrick switcharoo. You fuck my wife. I fuck yours. We pretend not to care. Then we get divorces 4 months later.
Will buy, but not at launch. I'm planning on treating this as a portable device, so the around 3 hrs of battery life is disappointing, but I'll get a car charger and all will be good. Love that it is cartridge based. Solid state style memory is much more efficient, and much cheaper now than a couple years back. I'm mainly getting this for Zelda, Skyrim (did they mention anything on the date for this?), Mario Odyssey, and Mario Kart. I'd love to see another Metroid title.
never played Skyrim, but what could they do that would make you enjoy it more than what was on other consoles? Is it just the idea of having it mobile?
I am on board with this....especially as a business traveler. but i wont be getting it at launch just yet with a newborn coming (hey honey! Guess what i just spent $500 on!!!). I love the launch strategy with the late reveal and it only being a few weeks away.
what are you planning on buying besides Zelda? Travel for business is definitely a scenario where i would have a handheld for sure. Waiting for a self-driving car and then I will never be behind on books, shows, games, etc.
oh i dunno. it depends what is out by the time i get it. im sure ill get a couple of party games or something too. the most important thing is that the console sells huge to start (Zelda helps!) and then has a big holiday (Mario!!) so that 3rd party developers stay with it and dont just publish 1 title and bail.
Skyrim is kind of never ending, so it doesn't get old as long as you enjoy that genre. I don't have a traditional job, so I'm in my car A LOT...and a good amount of that time is spent sitting. Also, i have a toddler and a newborn. When I'm with them, I can have the TV on their channels and kick back and play a game. Spoiler Yes, I play with my kids, but there's only so much that the toddler wants me to get involved with during his toys time, and a newborn doesn't really do anything.
not sure, saw it on my Twitter feed. I think they may be packaging as a 30year anniv since SF has been around that long. Feel old yet?
always. its going to be real interesting to see the reactions between now and launch, and sales right after. Zelda will sell a lot of systems but there's not a ton of that really sticks out as a system seller until Mario Kart, and then after that until Odyssey. And of course, this could be a deal breaker for a lot of folks... http://www.polygon.com/2017/1/13/14261342/nintendo-switch-extra-controller-price-terrible
I really don't get why Nintendo consoles don't always come with 2 controllers. They have their stamp on family and group play. Obviously I know the reason is to keep the box price 300 and under. But still.
I may be incorrect but pretty sure the last console to include 2 controllers was probably SNES and Genesis.
you're not wrong, and that will work for someone like Sub-Zero to use while travelling, but the way they are marketing it, you know people are going to want to play together in a lot of cases. Wii was aimed at kids and families, people will expect the same thing here. So in that way, $500 is a realistic $$ amount a family is going to have to drop to get their 2.3 kids set up with Switch.
No one is making you pay for 4 games and 3 different controllers. I'm just confused why you're treating it like Nintendo is running a hoax over everyone by charging $300
no hoax for sure, but console, an additional controller and 2 games is going to run you about 450 after tax. Not including 1-2 Switch with the console seems a major mistake
is that really different than, say $450? They weren't going to sell at a loss. Games cost $60. The extra controllers are overpriced, I'll give you that. The rumored $250 price point seemed right on to me, but a 10% difference for everything is hardly something worth being shocked over.
Not including 1-2 does seem weird, agree with you on that. I just saw a chart on twitter where people calculated inflation, and the Switch will be the 4th cheapest console ever. With the capabilities it presents, I'd say whatever they charge is fair
well just because id use it for travel doesnt mean its my primary use. It would still be at at home with family thing I'm sure. So i consider it a $500 investment for accessories and a couple games.
The grip is that thing in the middle of the L/R joycon controllers, right? It's $30. If you wanted a full second controller exactly like the one you get with the system, it is going to cost you $110. That's absolute robbery.
My point on cost is basically, what does The Switch give you that the current market consoles don't? Am I getting a gaming powerhouse that competes with Xbone and PS4? Blur Ray? 4k? Not to mention their new systems are right around the corner and Nintendo has not had a competing machine since Gamecube. In the end all systems are money eaters and what you get out of it is your own. I just dont see that value in their current pricing and line up. I cant see myself getting excited over Super Mario Bros 87 in HD.
well, then the Switch isn't for you. Nintendo consoles are mainly for playing Nintendo games. They aren't meant to compete with Xbox or PS4, so if you don't care about Mario and Zelda or want that type of gaming you should be looking at those.
This is where I'm at, pretty much. I'm only getting this system for the games I can't get on PS4 (Mario, Zelda, smash brothers, etc). If I just wanted 1 game and one full controller, that bumps my price up to $470 pre-tax. Hard to convince myself to buy a system for that much, when I have a more powerful one sitting at home with more games. Guess it just depends on how badly I want to play Mario or Zelda.
Part of me just wants Nintendo to put out a competing gaming system and stop recycling the same motion sensing, portable gaming gimmick. I grew up on Nintendo but sadly out grew them years ago : (
I know that seems like enough but it hasn't been for a long time. It sucks too because I just watched some gameplay from the new Zelda and it looks absolutely incredible. I wish so badly that it was enough to get me to buy an entire console for it
A long time? Just 2 consoles ago for them....... Wii was a monster hit and all the first party games (Mario Galaxy, Mario kart, Wii fit, etc) were huge successes.
