You're not. Lots of people don't like the pacing and gameplay mechanics.

I was the same way with BOTW but I eventually got into it. Some tips --

    Don't:
    • Think about what objective you need to complete next
    • Google locations and warp place to place without seeing what's between
    • Think you need to kill every enemy you run into like most games
    • Worry too much about cooking initially; there's only a few things you really need to cook and eventually you will have the ingredients in abundance
    Do:
    • Put on music
    • Fuck around and explore
    • Find spots on the map that look kind of empty and go see what's over there
The game rewards you for curiosity and exploration. See a weird spot that looks like it'd be hard to climb to? There's probably at least a Korok seed up there.

Cliffs: Don't use the A to B mindset of most games.

Bought a switch for BOTW and then ended up giving it to my nephew for his bday 3 years ago.

    Le sigh...

Tron identity is ok. Just a story pick your own adventure game but if you like the tron world it’s pretty cool

“not a huge fan of games that don’t guide you”

“to help with that, don’t google online guides to help with the lack of guidance. Also try out some moderately difficult freebase climbing activities that could eat 20-30 minutes of your life for a Korok Seed”

You gonna make him quit during the intro for sure

It’s funny how it works. I don’t like the forced path of games like God of War, and it really took away from the game for me. I love games that are very open-ended and encourage exploration. It also doesn’t hurt, that my biggest gaming nostalgia revolves around Zelda games.

Spent a couple hours playing TotK yesterday. Love that my kids are at the age where they like watching me play and want to play some. Going to have a blast with them playing this game just like Botw.

Can you? You couldn’t on the first one; only the jump button could be changed. As a longtime non-Switch player, A and B being backwards upset me wt first

You can only switch the jump button in the game. In the Switch system menu you can custom map the left/right joycons / a pro controller. Pretty easy and you save the custom setting as Zelda and you can switch back to default for other games.

I'd get a whole lot further in this game each time I played if I didn't see an orchard and decide to go pick apples and shit for 15 minutes at a time.

I'm pretty quick to google stuff like that in shrines. I justify the random material hunter & gatherer sessions because so many enemies hit you once and get you down to 1 heart. Gotta have a ton of full-life heals on deck

I have probably spent three times as long as is necessary in every shrine building ridiculously overcomplicated solutions to the puzzles. I love it.

Meanwhile, there are people out there creating attack helicopters and megazords...

So which of the initial 4 "areas to investigate" is that one? The first one I spent 3 hours ADHD'ing my way to in the top right is basically "blocked" until you can get anti-heat gear or ingredients to cook something to that effect. Pretty pissed off about that. Wasn't sure if there was a specific order you had to hit those but I'm kinda sorta remembering in BoTW there was an order for the DBs with the water world being first (could be misremembering but I thought it was water > volcano > sky > desert) for you to have the gear/inventory necessary to beat the areas without a serious headache.

Contemplating going to the one in the west/northwest since the one in the east I'm pretty sure is "content blocked" too for me at this point, at least the lookout tower on the way there was

I don't think there is an order for any. My OCD made me unlock all the towers and as many shrines as I could for fast travel.

In your travels did you find (and remember which) an area of the map where you can get ingredients or clothing to help vs. hot temperatures?

Also seems odd and wanted confirmation from anyone - you only get the keeps you warm pants in the sky-tutorial section right? Don't get any other pieces of that outfit up there in the beginning or did I miss it?

Well nvm I guess the fruit I was looking for is apparently in the area, but East = Waterville

And maybe didn't pay enough attention in some of the dialogue around the castle because reddit says I'm an idiot for not knowing to go northwest to begin with towards Hebra/Rito

So I had the keeps you warm pants and then I bought the whole outfit. I had a shitload of minerals/gems and just bought the fire armor when I got to goron city. It's almost better to use the temperature items on arrows so you can freeze/fry/roast enemies

Per the map I checked - Goron City is where I tried to go first and had acquired zero heat-resistant food/items and couldn't even get into that section of the map. Hoping that stuff will be in the Wind area and if not probably go West > East > Goron > South.

I know I’m super late to the game, but I’m loving BOTW this 2nd time I’ve tried it.

I have a really bad habit of heading toward a waypoint, and then getting completely side tracked.

It does help that I’ve spent way more time getting my hearts up to get the master sword, and now working on stamina until I get another full circle.

For anyone still early in the game, a couple pointers(and steps on how to do them, if you're so inclined)

    https://www.ign.com/wikis/the-legend-of-zelda-tears-of-the-kingdom/Things_to_Do_First_in_TotK

TLAU early dialogue in Hyrule definitely points you toward the Rito first. I also got a horse literally on my way to my second shrine when I landed in Hyrule. There's even a stable close by.
I think it's a good idea to stick to the main story for a little while until you acquire some necessities.

I was wondering what compelled me towards Hebra first. Didn’t realize they were pushing me in that direction since I think I did Rito Village last for the divine beasts in BOTW.
