Think I isolated my battery problems to Chrome Dev. Uninstalled it and everything seems back to normal for me so far
Swiftkey finally switched to displaying options on the word you just typed (in swipe mode) instead of predictions. Stupid obvious change that finally makes it a usable keyboard, giving it another chance now.
Say you swipe Heel. It could be Heel, Hell, He'll, etc. The keyboard was useless to me when it just guessed one and moved on. Most swiping keyboards chose the one with the highest confidence, but also list the other options so you can quickly correct it. Now swiftkey does that instead of showing you predictive words, which means typing is way less painful.
Nexus 5X got stuck in a bootloop for the second time, luckily Google is replacing it for free again - this is the third one I'll have. It's going to be a miracle if I can make to October without having to buy a new phone.
Did you buy it directly from Google? How long ago? I bought mine new elsewhere but it's been acting weird lately
Yes, I did about a year and a half ago. It was acting fine, I made a phone call and when I hung up the bootloop started. Same thing happened with the original one I bought
The 5x and 6P have both been wonky. My first 6P just died for no apparent reason. I had been using it, I sat the phone down on my desk, 15 minutes later picked it up and nothing. Force restart by holding down the power and volume down keys didn't work. Put it on charge for a half hour and still wouldn't work. Ended up having to ship it off to Huawei for them to repair or replace it and it took like a damn month until I got it back. If my phone fucks up again where I have to ship it off to get repaired, I'm just tossing it and buying an iPhone.
my n5 and 5x both died like that..seems like it could be a motherboard problem on them, since that's what LGs factory told me when I RMA'ed it. For the N5 (bought from Best Buy, out of warranty) it would have been $75 to repair with no guarantee. I declined repair and its now a paperweight...stinks because I loved the N5. For the N5x (bought from Fi, out of warranty) Project Fi support overnight-ed me a replacement (refurb, I actually sent in a 16GB but received a 32GB model) at no cost and then I just sent my broken N5x back in that same shipping container. With that said, I'm weary of another LG made Nexus. I did have luck with the bootlop issue by leaving it on and watching it. After about 50 boot up attempts, it booted up fully where I backed up photos/sms/etc then it died again for the final time.
So I was going to go ahead and buy a Pixel and noticed that Best Buy had some in stock but they're $100 over Google's price. How the fuck do they get away with that?
Because people are stupid enough to believe the name of the store is an accurate description of the store.
Will they not price match? When I buy shit I scour the Internet only to buy it at best buy with their price match guarantee.
That's not a bad idea. It's technically a Verizon phone though. It should still work with Fi though shouldn't it?
Actually nevermind, I forgot about the ridiculous carrier restrictions on updates and the bloatware apps. I'll just be without a phone for a few days.
I wouldn't buy them from outside of google, you want to have their customer service/replacements. I bought the extra year warranty because of the 5x debacle.
Yeah my 6p battery has been dying faster but still not really a huge problem for me. I have chargers everywhere.
my dads 6p was stolen while he was was at home depot but the thief hid it when they saw security coming for them. I actually had better luck tracking the device in Google Maps history than I did with Device manager based on the state the phone was in and the settings on that phone. Still very powerful...just keep in mind "my location history" or w/e its called in Google Maps if you are opted in can be very helpful.
I'm getting some bullshit lockscreen every time I plug in or unplug. I've tried deleting every app that isn't reputable, no clue what is causing this. Anyone had a similar issue? Halp
Ironically, sounds like those are frequently the culprit for such problems. I think it's an app setting not a virus.
Found the guilty app through a painful process of elimination with settings: peel remote, some piece of shit piece of bloat ware that came pre-installed by Samsung. Thought I had already disabled it, but guess not. Fuck you Samsung. As if I needed another reason to not buy another one of their shitty phones.
Ah yes I just read there have been a lot of complaints about the update to that app doing that shit. The new Samsung S8 phones look legit. I was reading about them and was like "damn, maybe I'll get this and not swith to the iPhone" then I stepped back and slapped myself for considering buying a Samcrap phone.
Told my wife that the S8 looks like a fucking beauty of a phone. But I just don't think I can do Samsung again.
My chick went down to Austin on vacation with some friends. On Saturday night they all got tanked and by the time she realized she didn't have her phone, it had been ~1 hour. She gets ahold of me at 3:30 am and tells me in her drunk stupor that she lost her found. I was able to track it and found that it was in a driveway 35 minutes south of Austin. Turns out she left it in the ride-sharing car that they took to the bar. I continued to track it through the next morning and she drove down and was able to get her phone back. She walked up to the house, knocked on the door, and the driver from the night before answered in his tighty whiteys. Turns out it was user Det. Frank Bullitt
Had a Samsung tablet a few years ago. Seemed like rooting it would be the only reason why one would want to avoid knox, and even then I was still able to root it fairly easily. I no longer have any interest in rooting a device, so why should I avoid due to knox?
Meanwhile, that tablet was the reason why I swore off buying all Samsung products going forward. This is how much I am generally liking the new S8s.
Yeh, I mistakenly purchased a Samsung tablet again in Feb. TouchWiz is so annoying ( but the killer was the 16 gig memory, but I purchased it in a emergency, but still ).
Manufacturers don't really seem to care about tablets anymore. Luckily I really only want one now for reading and video while traveling, so I have a fairly low standard nowadays. Back then I used it a lot more, just easier or more convenient to do most of this stuff I do on a tablet on my phone or computer. The Verge speaks fairly highly of TouxchWiz in the S8 though http://www.theverge.com/2017/4/18/15338052/samsung-galaxy-s8-touchwiz-android-software I was actually going to be searching soon for articles about the GUI because I too hated TouchWiz on the tablet I had, so glad to find that one. I'm a font snob (kinda comes with the territory of doing a lot of graphic design), and I really like the fonts and screenshots I've seen. Android Central also gives high marks for the software http://www.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s8-software
Verizon just updated my note 5. This update is awful. The icons are terrible. The fonts are lame. WTF. I need that note 8 to drop. I need expandable memory bad.
Oh, I know how much they don't value tablets, especially "mini tablets", anymore. I've prayed that Goggle would give us another Nexus 7 ( which is still the best device I've ever owned, regardless of category ), but I doubt that ever happens. Reading on a 7 or 8 inch device is preferred for me.
Just received my Samsung S8+ Too bad I left the phone it's replacing at my office with the SIM in it. For a bigger phone it doesn't feel cumbersome at all, I also have man hands so it would probably be a little tall for someone with smaller hand's aka a child or woman (just kidding, hands don't make the man) They have a promo I took advantage of. For $99 you get their VR with remote, plus 256GB mSD card, and Harmon Kardon over ear headphones. The VR will no doubt be a novelty but the card and headphones will def get used. #LookAtMe
My biggest qualm with getting the S8 are the slow OS updates (I'm not counting security updates). What will be the difference between me pulling the trigger on it or one of the new iPhones this fall.
Not getting the first gen Pixel. Second gen, maybe. I refuse to get it if they still are lacking stuff that is considered standard on a premium device. If I am paying premium I want the standard premium features. I was fine with settling for missing some stuff on the Nexus phones since they were cheaper, but I'm not settling with a Pixel as long as they maintain the current pricing strategy.
It's the only site I use for buying and selling used phones since 2010. I just like how the seller has to prove they have the phone they are trying to sell and that it is working. Easy to use for both buyers and sellers too. Far fewer fees than eBay for sellers as well.
