https://www.engadget.com/2017/04/21/samsung-to-fix-s8-red-tint/ Sounds like it's a screen calibration problem which should theoretically be able to be fixed with software.
have tried to buy a new 6p off amazon twice in the last week. Not amazon's storefront, but the marketplace or w/e. Both were cancelled with no reason given. Wondering if they were shams stores and amazon came down on them.
Just FYI in case it's helpful (or maybe I am just dumb and didn't realize this is how apps work): I had to get my 5x replaced b/c of boot loop. When I got the new one, my Nine license wouldn't transfer. I figured I could resolve that through the Play Store, but did just have to send an email to the developers instead. Was easy, got a reply within 2hrs, but just wasn't what I expected.
I'd be very wary of the 6p unless they have confirmed a fix for the battery issue. I loved the phone but it became unusable.
Ill sell you a used one if youre interested? Its in good shape, some wear and a tiny tiny crack that you can barely see at the bottom of the phone.
Same, I've had mine for a little over a year now and wouldn't recommend it. Not having any battery issues, but it can get extremely laggy at times even after closing out all the recent apps.
My 5x won't last much longer. looking for a stopgap until the pixel 2. If you are serious about selling PM me. The two 6ps were brand new around $300 (but again, could have been sham accounts).
I traded in my physically perfect 6p for 130 a couple months ago. Fucking thing just didn't work. I was happy to get it.
Buying a cheaper phone in the next couple weeks. If I don't see anything better, I'll get a 6p for $399. Anything better in that price range or less? Oneplus 3t? Stock or nearly stock Android required. Again don't want to spend too much since I'll be dropping $900 on a Pixel XL 2 in October (prob for Dec delivery, lol)
I have the ZTE Axon 7. It's a really great phone for the money. I bought it on black Friday, and have been really happy with. It's daydream capable and has 7.1.1 and is easy to root and unlock if you are into that. Battery life is better than my one plus was and although the stock OS on it isn't perfect, I find it's really solid once you add nova launcher or something like it.
I had the 1+1 for a a year and loved it. I broke my 1+3 after a few months, but I did like it as well. The zte was just too good to pass on during black Friday, so I bought it. I'm impressed with both companies. I was really close to getting the 1+ 3T. If you find the zte on sale for $300 or less, it's absolutely worth that. It comes with solid accessories and has been super durable.
Hmmm. Newegg deal of the day is the ZTE axon 7 64gb for $330. It's dual SIM...how does that end up working for you? I assume it works seamlessly for you with only 1 carrier/sim...
NVM not confirmed to work on Sprint despite being compatible with the right bands. Looks like Sprint may not have certified for activation yet. One plus 3T does not support Sprint/VZW/CDMA so it looks like my option is basically the 6p from project Fi.
If you go 6p, check out amazon warehouse deals. I got one in excellent condition in the fall for like $220.
This looks pretty solid for someone looking for a top notch phone w/o a contract. http://bgr.com/2017/05/11/oneplus-5-specs-leaked-everything-to-know/ "Highlights include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, up to 8GB of RAM, Android 7.1 Nougat, a 23-megapixel camera, and a huge 4,000 mAh battery. Alongside this specs sheet was another sheet claiming that the OnePlus 5 will start at $450, which is significantly less than Samsung’s $650 Galaxy S8."
If a flagship doesn't have ip68 (max dust and max water rated resistance, immersion in 1m) then it's not actually worthy of being called flagship.
OK, so I have (an ancient) ASUS Memopad HD7 that suddenly crapped out this week. I get a "no command" when going into recovery mode, but then when I do a factory reset, nothing happens. Just stuck on ASUS splash screen. This tablet is basically the same as the Nexus 7 (2013). It has an SD card slot, but I can't find much online to work. Ideas? Would be open to playing with it some to learn how to root, use ADB, etc., but am not good with technology...
Bossman is putting me on Sprint. I'm getting the S8. I want the note 8. But I guess I'll be able to grab it in a year. What do yous prefer. The 8 or 8+
I'm in NY. It's not that bad here. I pay 150 on Verizon. Ill take a dropped call or 2 for free service.
I'm holding out for the new Pixel phones. Hearing that they will have some sort of water resistance, probably the same as the iPhones and Galaxy phones. If true, probably going to get one of those.
Official ratings (which are kind of interesting, rating for one level does not mean it passed the previous level, per se). IP68 Is the highest possible rating but two phones rated IP68 can have very different waterproofing abilities. I think we should expect IP67 or IP68. Read up about the rating system on wiki for more info. Previous Gen: Pixel 1: IP53 iPhone 7: IP67 Current Flagships: Galaxy S8: IP68 LG G6: IP68 Most Telling>>>HTC U 11: IP67
Lots of cool stuff introduced yesterday at the I/O keynote, but nothing really on the hardware front. Google is clearly trying to be everywhere. Anyways, I joined the beta program and no have Android O running on my Pixel XL. I haven't looked into a full change log, but I've noticed small visual tweaks here and there.
Really like the feature of using your camera to read a WiFi log in and password and converting it for you. Could use that tech for a lot of stuff.
I still for the life of me can't get on board with talking to computers. I don't like talking to people, wtf makes you think I want to talk to a computer?
I think a lot of people feel that way. Google addressed this by now allowing people to type as input for Google Assistant.
Also, if you were in Beta program for Android N, it does NOT carry over to Android O. You have to re-up. Not a big deal, I just hadn't realized that. I'm going to hold off just because I have a lot of remote work the next week and can't afford to lose the phone for any length of time.
My Understanding is that Google Lens will be able to recognize numbers and letters. If you have a dog or type of car on your screen it will be able to identify the breed or model.
I don't like using Siri or Ok Google on a mobile device, home or away. But using Alexa on the Amazon Echo ( the original, not the creepy new ones with cameras ) for my lights, alarms, and music is a very natural thing to do for me. Shit, now I find it unnatural to have to use a light switch.
Just paid off the last monthly payment on my S6 Edge, and switched from 6GM to verizon's new 5GB plan. Payment dropping from $136 down to $75 is pretty tasty, especially when work reimburses $50 flat/month no matter what my bill is. It's the 64GB model and the camera is awesome so I'm trying to resist any immediate upgrade urges. Just got the new Android OS - are Samsung's "relatively" more future-proofed than iPhones? Meaning will this hold up well under newer OS' down the line or is battery going to be my main concern with age? Thanks for the advice, my first Android phone and love the whole ecosystem over Apple
Here's a quick summary of the major announcements at I/O. Their description of Google Lens starts at 15s.
Emoji is probably the biggest ing the casual user will recognize. That and the drop down menu. Battery menu stats have gotten even less useful. I can't click on the graph now and see when the screen was on and all that other stuff. Also can't see which apps are draining the battery. Battery stats virtually useless now. Also have to go through extra clicks to get to it now as well.
This is the first public beta, but my phone feels a lot snappier. I was having occasional problems with it getting bogged down for several seconds and it would drive me nuts when it happened because the phone would basically be unresponsive. Been on the beta for less than 24, so a small sample size, but the lag hasn't happened yet. I do like how the persistent notifications are now all minimized into one thin line with a small notification icon. Works really well for my weather app's notification as the notification icon is the temperature.
getting 1.25 to 1.5 hrs SOT on my N5x with maybe 10 or so non google apps and having disabled plenty of google apps. Called support and they are replacing with another N5x (my third one) for free. Google support doing work.
