Got one of these just as a cheap case for my Pixel last year. Has done great and I've dropped the phone a few times. Will purchase a new one for the Pixel 2 XL.
Wife has the Pixel 2 (kinda blue) just sitting on the counter but doesn't want me to set it up for her until Sunday. I just can't even fathom not using a new toy the instant one gets it.
no case for me yet, but have spigen thin fit set to be delivered on Nov 11 I got a cheapo skinomi pack of 2 screen protectors for $8 to hold me over until the tempered glass products come out.
The fuck is wrong with her? I would have had that thing shipped to work and have one of the least productive days one can have
Seriously debating cancelling my pixel xl 2 order (ships tomorrow) after all these reviews of the shitty screen and just keep my xl. Someone talk me out of this move
I haven't found a single thing wrong with with this phone yet. I like it a lot better than the Pixel XL. Obviously how it performs with time on it is yet to be seen. That's key for me, I like to keep mine for 2 years usually.
Fucking hell. Why does Google keep allowing LG to make things for them? Google ‘actively investigating’ reports of Pixel 2 XL screen burn-in Bad to worse by Dieter Bohn@backlon Oct 22, 2017, 9:22pm EDT SHARE Over the weekend, people with review units of the Pixel 2 XL began noticing a problem. No, not the already-known issues of muddy color and grainy textures when viewed in low-light, but one that’s potentially more worrisome: screen burn-in. First reported on Twitter by Android Central’s Alex Dobie, multiple people have noticed that when you look at the screen with a gray background, you can see faint outlines of the phone’s navigation buttons on the bottom. You can see it below, and I can confirm I’m seeing something similar on my own review unit. View image on Twitter Follow Alex Dobie ✔@alexdobie That's some pretty wild OLED burn-in on the Pixel 2 XL after maybe 7 days of full-time use Screen burn-in isn’t an uncommon issue, but it does seem especially worrisome that it’s showing up within a week or so of these units coming into usage. It’s also possible that what we’re looking at here is image retention instead of actual screen burn-in. If that’s the case, then it’s not as permanent. Neither one is good, but “ghosting” goes away where burn-in may not. Android Central has a good breakdown. Whatever it is, it’s worrisome, so we reached out to Google for comment, and here’s the response from a spokesperson in full, but obviously pay attention to the second part more than the rosy specs listed in the first half: The Pixel 2 XL screen has been designed with an advanced POLED technology, including QHD+ resolution, wide color gamut, and high contrast ratio for natural and beautiful colors and renderings. We put all of our products through extensive quality testing before launch and in the manufacturing of every unit. We are actively investigating this report. If it really is genuine screen burn-in (and early indications do, in fact, seem to point in that direction), it’s a really big problem. Many screens, especially OLED screens, do begin to exhibit burn-in over time. But that time span is usually measured in multiple months or even years, not days or weeks. We’ll be keeping an eye on the issue in the coming days and will update our review of the Pixel 2 XL as is appropriate. Having a portion of your screen permanently marred takes what was a negative point against the phone and turns it into something much closer to a deal-breaker.
Well, they invested $1B in LGs display factory. Apple also invested $3B in it. I don't think Google will be making displays anytime soon.
HTC made the Pixel 2 which has no issues outside of the ridiculous bezels. LG made the Pixel 2 XL which has all of the display issues.
I had that problem once with a Motorola phone. Was all that loud but if you had the phone sitting beside you on your night stand while in bed it could be heard fairly easily. Was annoying at first but it otherwise worked fine so I didn't deal with the hassle it would take to get it resolved.
This is the exact kind of shit that caused me to switch to iPhone.. I prefer android but IPhones just work. Don't have to worry about any of the bullshit. Or at least I haven't so far. Going to send my XL 2 back and get an iPhone X.
I'm pretty confident hers won't have any issues, as my HTC built Pixel 1 XL has had zero issues whatsoever. That being said I like the girl in that gif.
I had full intentions of buying the 2 XL but I was already nervous about it considering I'm on my fourth replacement 5X that LG made and these reviews aren't helping. I can't justify spending $850 on a phone with all of these display issues.
My 2XL is fine ATM but I'm nervous as shit. Really hope it's being over blown for obvious reasons but also because I really like it.
Google needs to make significant changes to their quality control. With this long history of problems combined with my 6P having to be replaced once because it shut down on its own and refused to turn back on then experiencing the early shutdown problem, It's at the point where I can't trust buying one of Google's phones anymore until a year after they are released, and then why do that when I can buy a quality current gen phone from Samsung or just switch to iPhone? Nexus 6P has early shutdown and boot loop problems Nexus 5X had boot loop problems Pixels had microphone problems, and now a year later some are having problems receiving texts Pixel 2 XL is a trainwreck of varying problems
Fuck. Thankfully I'm in the process of a move and didn't want to pre-order not knowing when/where it would be delivered. This is really, really disappointing.
THe good news is that my Pixel XL is still a beast of a machine and now I don't have to spend $1k on a new phone.
Very likely switching to iPhone after I'm done with the S8. Don't think Google is going to have enough time to repair their reputation by then. Would have held off to this fall to make a choice on a new phone if my shit tier Nexus 6P hadn't gotten the early shut down problem in June and I couldn't wait around until Apple and Google released their new shit.
I think they determined that this was the NFC sensor trying to connect to something. A work badge, a sticker, etc.
Not canceling my pre order will use and if I can't deal will just return. Dieter originally recommended the phone before display gate got out of hand and MKBHD just did the same and explained display gate in terms that I feel I can live with.
I ordered mine via project fi on the 4th. Haven't really heard anything from them since. Estimated delivery is Thursday - Monday but I see the Google store has them available. I'm pretty impatient at this point.
I ordered mine on the 3rd or 4th on Fi and did ground shipping. Shipped yesterday and will be here thursday.
