More like some sort of vegetable medley, succotash sort of thing. I'm gonna be using the oven for roasted potatoes for quite a while, and cooking other stuff on the burners.
This could easily be done in a crockpot, but you'd have to cook the bacon beforehand or leave it out. https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/199983/arkansas-green-beans/ Easy enough to substitute fresh beans too.
It's awesome. I forgot about that...but, it really is July here...won't see that bad boy until the Fall.
Oh I'm candying fresh figs. Got a fig tree, shit puts on stupid amounts of fruit that I can't give away fast enough. Made jelly before but trying some candied figs this year. Basically just cooking them in sugar water for 20 minutes or so a day, and then letting then sit and cool and soak up the syrup. Tomorrow they'll be moved to the drying stage. Will be interesting. First time I've tried it. And most people do it with turkey figs but I've got golden.
When I was researching this I actually saw people saying you could do it in a crockpot. But then I'd have to wait for the crockpot to get to simmer. Stovetop is actually a little simpler I think.
I wear 35 pounds of gear and a bulletproof vest while I sweat my balls of for 40 hours a week. I’ll be good goddamned if I’m gonna be hot in my own house.
How cool does your house actually stay? It's a bitch to keep a normal house more than like 20 degrees cooler than the outside temp
Just picked up a Boston Butt for some Crockpot Coke pulled pork. I would ask that our BBQ posters please respect this decision.
r/slowcooking is claiming this to be the "new" Mississippi Roast, in that everyone tries it and likes it. Figured I'd post. https://www.365daysofcrockpot.com/slow-cooker-tortellini-spinach-soup/
It was fantastic. I added a sliced onion to the recipe. Between my wife and I, it was gone by dinner time Monday.
Ok, it’s legit. Not as easy to make as the MS roast but not difficult at all. I used regular thighs and just pulled the meat and saved the skin and bones for stock. Also I think you could use fresh spinach and it’d be good. Doesn’t eat like a soup, but has really good depth of flavor. Will make again.
I had thought the same about fresh spinach when I read the recipie. Might have to add it in a couple stages while you wait for it to wilt, or could just wilt it before putting it in.
Not the sexiest thing ever, but decided to try my hand at some bone broth with my roasted chicken carcass, place smelled pretty damn glorious when I woke up This was OK btw, tasted pretty much the same as that Korean Beef recipe posted in here way back, meat was really tender at least
So much better than buying store bought. Usually make and can a gallon or so every few months or whenever chicken gets to be dirt cheap.
I get those easy roast Perdue chickens pretty frequently so I imagine I'll end up making a habit out of this, seems like the perfect thing to fit into my intermittent fasting mornings
I haven’t tried it, but you can roast the bones in the over prior to the crock pot to get better flavor. I usually just to extremely heavy on herbs etc. last batch I made was in the instant pot and was absolutely incredible.
Made this the other week as the weather cooled off a bit. Turned out really well, although I had skipped the basil (store sold out) and that was a mistake. Needed just a tad more seasoning. Overall it is very rich and I agree that the sauce is halfway between a soup and a pasta sauce. I was pretty careful to use heavy cream instead of half and half, and tempered it before pouring into the soup. All those tomatoes had me wary of the acidity+heat curdling.
I've made something similar, it's a bit more labor intensive and not as good for you, but it's fucking delicious. https://cafedelites.com/slow-cooker-creamy-tortellini-soup/
My crockpot died last Thanksgiving and still have not replaced it. My Instapot isn't big enough to use it for the slow cooking function. Any recommendations for something in the $20-$50 range? My old one was just a cheap Hamilton Beach one so I'm not looking for something too fancy.
I would try to find one with a manual knob. My sunday lunch plans got destroyed by a power blip. Apparently when the power goes off my crockpot turns back on and is waiting for you to tell it what to cook on.
I have this slight feeling of dread every time I set mine and leave for work because of this. Or maybe it's from the possibility of my house burning down.
