Really? I have no clue on real numbers, but I know 5 folks that council at rehab centers and 4 of them are former/still addicts.
Well in most civilized states you actually have to go to grad school to be a professional counselor. Of the 40-50 of people my wife has worked with around 10% struggled with addiction according to her. I'm sure there are plenty of recovering addicts that try to help other addicts, but are for the most part not equipped to actually help. Being an AA sponsor doesn't make you a counselor.
Yeah I have no clue, but two of those four I mentioned work have degrees. One is in TX and one is in MS. Just seems lots of addicts go into this field and want to help others. Like I said I'm not sure if it's majority, but seems like a common thing.
