HAMILTON — Johnny Manziel is expected to make his CFL debut on Friday night in the Ticats’ pre-season opener, Head Coach June Jones revealed Monday.

Jones told reporters after a hot, humid session Monday that Manziel will be second in line for reps on Friday following starting quarterback Jeremiah Masoli.

 

I wonder if Manziel had to carry Masoli's pads off the field at practice

 

Just out of a sheer curiosity I went to back to look at the roster of that 2010 Ole Miss squad, good lord there is no way we could have been his best transfer option.

 

He was a terrible passer. Great runner though. Some of his passing stat lines at Oregon were absurd:

Yea didn't see him play much at Oregon, with what we gave him to work with (no talent on an offense coached by Houston Nutt and Dave Radar), I'm not sure I can remember feeling more on-the-field sympathy for a player. That was the stellar season where we managed to lose to Jacksonville State at fucking home to start the season, but he kept us in some games we had no business even being on the field for

I think he could be really good in the cfl, but it’s so hard to tell. Some guys with less talent succeed just because they love playing and some guys ultra talented flame out when they realize that they are never going to get paid more than 300 000$ a year playing pro football. Really hard to predict which college qb can be good in the cfl. I thought Vince young would be unstoppable in the cfl but accuracy is too important. Same with Troy Smith.

Manziel seems to have what it takes except for the discipline thing.

 

Making 300k a year to play football still seems like a pretty good deal.

 

Yeah but not what they signed up for first for most of these guys, and the répercutions on their health is a legit concern.

And some make like 150k it’s a nice salary but for guys like Manziel or Vince young or other guys that pocketed a few millions just being drafted it’s not really worth it.

 

He is going to start sometime this season, the buzz is too strong
