amd cpus are better but the dell prebuilts seem to pair those with amd gpus. so customize that and put in the 2070 or whatever.

No. I know it would be cheaper to build but I have a 20% off dell discount on this so it would probably be the same

it would be a pretty decent difference. i too would do it. but i would also bump up the cpu too and just go ahead and hit that $2500 mark because fuck it. but im also prone to having 4 monitors with as many sports games going as possible + a youtube + a game + several other tabs.

I did not bump up the RAM but I did bump up the CPU to the I9KF and the GPU to the 2080 TI

Cost me 2200 after the dell discount I got would be just under 2800 without

honestly, I have a 70inch 4K tv right next to where I’m plugging this in to play bigger games like 2077. I just need something decent with built in speakers for when I’m playing my strategy games so 1440 would probably be fine

I caught it on sale for $600 last year. Good price for 1440p IPS 165hz. Most of the $400 and less are TN panels which are too washed out for me.

Higher end gear is getting pricier overall though, hell my monitor at work was $1800.

I couldn’t make myself spend that much earlier this year when I built my pc. I looked into getting an IPS monitor, but just couldn’t pull the trigger. I got a Dell s2721dgf and liked it enough to where i just bought a second one last month. It’s a TN panel at 1440p and went around $380. This is my first foray back into pc gaming in a decade so it’s beautiful.

I work in IT and and where i work we have 3 dozen monitors that are on 24/7 and they ran at $1800 as well.

    Guys

With the I9KF and the 2080 TI how long am I looking at before I need to upgrade?

my goal was to not have to do anything for awhile but upgrade the GPU when Elder Scrolls 6 is out

Default clock on the i9KF is 2666 so both of those are OC.

Make sure to hit up the bios and see if Dell OCs the RAM from the factory. They may leave it at 2666

The main reason is because the 3000 series was just released at a ridiculous price point. But good luck getting your hands on one. I believe the 3070 is supposed to release soon, which is equal to the TI I believe.

It was almost an extra grand to add a 3090 to this build and I already had gone over my budget by the time I got to adding the TI so, I just wanna run cyberpunk and other big games coming out and upgrade the GPU in 2-3 years

    ditto.

the new generation (3000 series) is impressive and the direct successor 3070 is just a mind blowing card from a price/performance ratio.

I don't know the game you are referring to, but I have no doubt you'll be able to play it at 1440p maxxed out with great results.

I think other users have responded appropriately, but make sure you get a 144+hz display, it will be a better experience than your large 4k tv, trust me (and us collectively).

I probably can't afford it, but currently, I have my gaming PC and Xbox hooked up to a 50" TV (needs to be replaced) - is it possible to get a 144hz display 42" or so? At a reasonable price?

42" is a tweener display size.

Not many 120hz TVs will be around that size. They'll tend to use 60hz panels. You'll have better luck with monitors. Are you willing to go slightly smaller, 27", 32", 34" or perhaps ultrawide? 49" is popular there.

    I prefer two distinct monitors, so I have 27" (gaming, 1440p at 144hz) beside a 27" (4k60).

Thankfully HDMI is making advances and tv manufacturers are taking it upon themselves to (finally) support more resolutions/refresh rates and if you aren't down with a smaller monitor, you can look at 40+" TVs and expect to find 120hz support.

It's not a huge room, so I could maybe go down to 34.

I saw some ultrawide on amazon at 49, am I wrong or does the ration basically look like 2- 27" monitors side by side.

Was thinking about splurging on the LG CX - but if that's still going to be holding me back a little I could go down in size some.

Yes, I looked and my setup is 48.2" wide, and the first Dell 49" UW I pulled up is 47.8" wide, and similar enough heights too. You'd have to consider if you're okay with curved or want a traditional (flat) experience.

If it was me, I'd buy the best 27" screen I could afford (the one Irush linked is great). You'll also get a better gaming panel and gaming features if you go to say, the 27", as everyone makes a product here. If you go to the 3X" inches, you'll find fewer options and will have to make more tradeoffs, its a less competitive space.

Do you have a FreeSync or GSync graphics card in your build?

and LG CX is well documented to be a great display. I don't think you can go wrong, but I believe that smallest size (42"?) version is disproportionately expensive due to weird supply relationships due to CX production.

    thanks.

    here is what this fixes
These feature improves the handshake between your graphics card and your monitor, causing your GPU rendering to match the refresh rate of the monitor, which results in a better looking picture, as it reduces screen tearing.

This is an example of screen tearing.

They are annoying when you game and it's quite premium imo to game without them.

You have an NVIDIA GPU, in the GPU space that means:

NVIDIA = support for proprietary standard "GSync", tends to cost more for monitors with this.
AMD = support for open source standard "FreeSync", though some new AMD products are manufactured using a newer spec that earns compatibility with "GSync" These monitors tend to be cheaper as it's not a proprietary implementation.

In this case, you should be looking for a monitor with NVIDIA GSync support. This will almost definitely be in the first couple of lines/notes about a product and will be prominent on the packaging.

This is a great choice, Alienware 27 Gaming Monitor - AW2720HF, but I know other users are going to have better recs than I do, as I haven't been in the market for a gaming monitor since about ~2017.
