Replaced L1 button on my steam deck this morning. Valve contracting with iFixIt was a great move. $7 for the button and clear instructions online. The repairability is a nice touch and something that most electronics have lost these days.
Yeah, watched a couple tear-down videos of the SteamDeck, and was blown away at how modular they are making it.
The price differential for storage basically is a bit of a cock in the ass. Just placed an order for it, been so out of the loop I didn't even realize it was a thing.
There are a lot of videos of people opening their SteamDecks up and switching out the hard drives. The fastest way to get one, is to order the 64gb model, and either switch out the hard drive, or just have multiple SD cards for extra memory. All of the systems have the same specs. The only difference is the hard drive space, and the high end one has a laser etched screen for less glare (which doesn’t matter, if you’re planning on adding a screen protector).
Dumb question...but can someone give me a two-sentence elevator pitch of what a steam deck is? Like why should I get one? Like a high-end handheld Gameboy that plays Steam games?
Handheld computer purpose built to play video games that can natively play basically your entire steam library and (perhaps?) non-steam games as well.
I tried, it seemed like if you didn't have a lot of time to grind it wasn't much fun. Felt more like work with shitty graphics. A lot of people love it though.
I think you have to be a degenerate to like it. No worse feeling than logging on and seeing that you've been raided, but there's no better feeling than raiding someone and hitting the jackpot. Been playing it for about 2 months now and already have about 250 hours on it lol. I get why people hate it but it's really server dependent. I was about to quit when I found a server with good quality of life adjustments.
Feels like when one of my buddies pitched me on why dayz is fun "Yeah you could be playing with a dude for like 20 hours and it's awesome but then he gets killed and you have no way of talking to him again" Aight sick
Just got it about an hour ago. I’m getting some of my Steam library downloaded as I type. If you know of a way to explain how to get ROMs and emulate, as if you were trying to help a child do it, please help. I mostly just want old school NES, SNES, some GameCube, maybe a few XBox 360 games that aren’t backwards compatible to the Series X (thinking NCAA 14). Any help would be appreciated.
I’ve been trying to emulate college hoops, all pro football or ncaa 14, cannot find copies online anywhere. Kill me.
So, there are a couple of videos that I would recommend watching. and These videos are going to recommend getting some things done first, but what you'll want to do is download the EMULATORS you want on the Steam Deck in DESKTOP MODE. This will make it so EMUDECK can see them in the system so when you have ROMS, the Steam Deck will know where to put them. Having a DONGle and an external mouse will make things easier, but they are not necessary. 7-zip seems to be the unzipping app of choice, and I have had no issues with it. The EMULATORS can be downloaded straight from the store, which you will find in the menu in DESKTOP MODE The above videos have a lot of similarities in terms of their suggestions and what directions to follow. The videos above will show you how to set up your Steam Deck for emulating the ROMS, and for how to configure your steam deck once you have the ROMS on there, BUT, the videos will not show you how to download the ROMS and where to go. This is probably to avoid telling you anything that could be legally murky. The video below is a great video for where you can get most, if not all of the games you have in mind, especially the retro ones. I personally went to https://vimm.net/?p=vault, as it as has extensive library: You'll want to have storage device that you can use with your Steam Deck to hold the ROMS. I used an External Solid State Drive (SSD) that had a USB-C connection, the same connection for the Steam Deck, so I didn't have to bother with a DONGle. If you are trying get PlayStation or XBOX games, you will also have to get the BIOS for each, which I have lazily not done, but those should also be available on vimm.net The guides are pretty straight forward. I did it by following them and the most difficult part for me was getting the ROMS since the guides didn't really mention how to get them. Reach out with any questions or comments while you're in the process and I'll do my best to keep an eye out for your messages.
Man, really appreciate the through response. I’m hoping to attempt this over the next week, so I will update if I have success.
Of course brother, no problem! I’d probably watch all three videos, then download the ROMS I want. That way you don’t download EMULATORS you don’t need. I definitely had to pause and replay the videos often as I was going through the process so I could parse through what they were saying and what they were doing. You’ll get it, and I’m here if you need any help.
I need to learn how to overclock properly. I have a 3070 TI FTW and get anywhere from 90-160fps depending on location in certain games. Would the improvement be that much?
probably the most interesting game I have ever played. Love all the twitter takes that are like: tried to grab a tie in the first room, had a heart attack and died 10/10.
I watched a YT video and used MSI Afterburner. Idk if it’s OC or not, but I run like 1770mhz idle and 2100mhz while gaming. Have definitely noticed an improvement on Warzone.
I overclocked in my bios and had to reset it because I would blue screen occasionally. I have no idea what I’m doing
System builders - Is this PSU missing anything? https://www.newegg.com/evga-superno...&ranSiteID=IHClMpM8flE-c0ev2xNJoSq9IuNSkGYkEw Seems like a great value to pick up for my next build which will have a 4080 probably.
That’s the reason I bought an Alienware. Everything already came over clocked. I ain’t got time to research and do that shit.
Steamdeck just arrived. Nearly none of the games I play are playable on it, lol. Damn anti-cheats! edit: maybe they will still run, it just warns it might not run right.
Destiny - doesn’t work (remote play isn’t terrible) Lost ark mentioned having anti cheat New World - going to try next I don’t own many Steam games. Also only got the 64 gig (huge mistake) but did steal the 128 gig card from my Switch. Hopefully eventually Bungie will allow Destiny to run.
I saw on Reddit people changing the hd in the deck from 64 to a much bigger one for significantly cheaper than if you had gotten the larger model - something you could look into.
Just bought a PC that my brother in law help me build. Main specs are Nvidia 10GB 3080 GPU, ryzen 7 5800x CPU and 32GB ram for memory. Said it will last me for years and can upgrade stuff too.
microsoft flight simulator, CoD and sports games to start off. I’ve never had a gaming pc so I’m pretty excited.
Steam deck comes in tomorrow by end of day. Anyone have any suggestions on games that play well on it? Also has anyone had success setting up an emulator on it? I’m gonna try and get RPSC3 running on it
Depends on what you are used to. I played Elden Ring on a Steam Deck, and it was running 40ish FPS at pretty high settings. The thing is, the screen is 720p, so you really don’t have to worry too much about graphics, unless you dock it to play on a monitor or TV. Sidenote: There is a dock made by a company called JSaux, and it is pretty great. Make sure to look for the ‘upgraded’ version, if you choose to go this route.
4000 series is releasing in October, $1200. https://videocardz.com/newz/nvidia-...s-rtx-4090-launches-october-12th-for-1599-usd
I think the bitcoin mining downfall has been a blessing. I just bought a 3070 TI FTW3 in May for $750 and probably will be upgrading come January.
I used emudeck and yuzu to play switch games when checking your library and the store, keep in mind there are tons of games that aren’t verified that still work really well.
