http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5j2lUeeeOPM This was the first season I followed the 49ers from week one until the end. I remember watching this game, and the NFCCG against Dallas, at my Uncle's house in Marin with friends and family. I remember that day clear as can be. Something interesting in this game, watch Eric Davis' interception at about 4:13. The refs would never call that a catch today. The continuation rule today is poor, but I still thought it was an interesting moment in the game.
This was my third year of 49er fandom. I remember being so happy after finally beating the Cowboys and thinking that it was a foregone conclusion that they'd beat the Chargers. Steve Young and the throwback unis
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kw5blLXD75U Nobody has posted that 1995 championship game on youtube, but the regular season game is up there. That was a huge game too for two reasons: it was the 49ers first win vs the Cowboys after three consecutive losses and it validated their free agent splurge on defense during the offseason (Norton, Plummer, Ricky Jackson, Richard Dent, Toi Cook, Tim Harris and Deion Sanders during the season). The Niners always had the offense, but they never had the defense to beat Dallas until 1994. Steve Young killed the Cowboys on bootleg runs and Merton Hanks had two big interceptions in the redzone during that game. IIRC, the acquisition of three new CBs that year (Sanders, Cook and Tyronne Drakeford) allowed Hanks to be moved from CB to FS, where he became arguably the top FS in the league for the next 5 or so years.
I'm relatively close with someone who played defense on that team. He said that their main goal was to force the other team to punt 3 times because with all the talent they had on offense, they felt like forcing 3 punts would be enough to win almost any game .
That's probably true. Ironically, the big contracts given that season and some others in the following years (Gabe Wilkins, Antonio Langham, etc.) killed the Niners cap situation and ultimately their run.
Oh man, that 94 team is legend to me. I don't think any team will touch it in my mind ever. And that's with me being old enough to remember the last two Montana Super Bowls.
The best thing about the last two SBs is that you knew going in that it was going to be a boatrace. Don't have that feeling going into this one, although I'm still confident. The 89 and 94 teams were just two of the greatest of all time. I expected total domination each outing.
I was in the 4th grade during that Super Bowl, coincidentally enough, that was the game I won my first money bet on a sports game. (5 bucks)
Not a real surprise http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/201...-francisco-49ers-try-trade-alex-smith-sources
I actually had to work today and I was happy to do it. It kept me from being nervous at home all morning/afternoon. Now I'm ready for this shit.
Well, boys. This is what we have been waiting for, for a long time. Who got it better than us? Noooooobody!
Unless some unbelievably lucky shit like a pick 6 happens to change the momentum of this game, we are fuckkkedddd
Failed attempt of trying to catch the Ravens off guard. Need to figure something out on both ends and fast though.
Why is Vern blocking on 3rd down when he's shredded their D all night? Also it's ridiculous that Ravens DB is still in the game after shoving a ref.
I'm not counting on it, but it's not over. Bottom line, the Ravens are kicking the 49ers ass. Even had the Niners done everything right, best case scenario, we're looking at tie game. Fucking secondary, ugh.
Maybe I'm just a butthurt bandwagon fan, but refs won this game for Ravens. Not just the holding on 4th and goal but that let them get away with facemask/illegal hands to the face all night. Fuck Goodell and the refs
Don't think so the 9ers lost this game. Too unprepared on defense to start and killed themselves with mistakes.
Just atrocious play calling in the redzone. Run the ball all the way down the field and then all you do is pass when you are on the five yard line. Fucking pitiful
True, but could have, would have, should have. Chris Culliver was a fucking bitch all game. He is why the Niners lost this game.
