Yeah I dont think Decastro falls that far, but that would be my pick.......you really cant ever build too much depth on the O-line...like to see a OL/CB/WR whoever the best value of those 3 are thats available
We definitely need to use an early pick on some kind of receiving threat, as pretty much all of our receivers are on short contracts now. Crazy to see how this roster has been overhauled to the point where we're pretty much looking to establish depth throughout the draft.
Ranking the 49ers' draft 'wants' Spoiler With their salary cap whittled down to the point where they can fit in their draft class and not much else, let's assume the 49ers are finished spending free-agent dollars. The focus now shifts toward the draft. The 49ers have seven draft wants -- and that's because needs is just too strong of a word.As I see it, there are only two positions where the 49ers can add a starter. At the very least, they need depth at those spots. Here is the complete list of spots the 49ers will look to fill in the draft:1. Guard: Daniel Kilgore is penciled in as the starter at right guard with the departure of Adam Snyder. But Kilgore will not be running unopposed. The 49ers could add a veteran-minimum type of player to challenge for a starting job. And the 49ers could add a potential first-year starter with a selection within the first four rounds of the draft.2. Wide receiver: Michael Crabtree is likely to be a starter, and the other starting job is up on the air. Randy Moss is coming out of retirement. The last time Moss played in the NFL, he was not up to starter quality. Free-agent pickup Mario Manningham, a front-runner to start alongside Crabtree, averaged 52 receptions over the past three seasons with the New York Giants. If the 49ers select a wideout in the first or second round, there should be a good competition in camp.3. Safety: Dashon Goldson and Donte Whitner are the starters, but the 49ers have nobody behind them at this moment. Veteran Madieu Williams started three of the first four games due to injuries. The 49ers have not placed a priority on re-signing him. And Reggie Smith played 239 snaps of defense (23.6 percent of the time) as an extra defensive back. Smith is looking for a better opportunity on the free-agent market. So look for the 49ers to attempt to bolster this spot.4. Cornerback: Carlos Rogers and Tarell Brown return as the starters, and Chris Culliver enters his second NFL season as the team's third corner. If the 49ers select a cornerback with their first-round pick, then, that player would have a chance to step in and open the season as a starter. More likely, the 49ers would add a player to compete with Tramaine Brock for the job as the fourth corner.5. Running back: Frank Gore is the starter, but the 49ers can be expected to try to upgrade behind him. Kendall Hunter is a change-of-pace back -- not an every-down solution. Anthony Dixon was in the doghouse a year ago because he was inconsistent with his assignments. Veteran Rock Cartwright was signed for his special-teams play. The 49ers are definitely in the market for a 215-plus-pound no-nonsense runner who is reliable in blitz pickup.6. Outside linebacker: Parys Haralson is a good insurance policy to have behind starters Aldon Smith and Ahmad Brooks. But the 49ers should look to develop another young player for depth purposes. Outside linebackers Monte Simmons and Rick Elmore finished the season on the 49ers' practice squad. But Simmons signed with Philadelphia Eagles, and Elmore went to the San Diego Chargers.7. Defensive line: The 49ers have some young players behind the entrenched starting line of Justin Smith, Isaac Sopoaga and Ray McDonald. The 49ers have depth with Ricky Jean Francois, Demarcus Dobbs, Ian Williams and Will Tukuafu. But a couple players from that group must step up and win places in the rotation. After all, Smith played 91.1 percent of last year's snaps, while McDonald was on the field 83.5 percent of the time. Depth means nothing if the coaching staff does not have the confidence to play the backups.* * *There is a very soft market for inside linebackers -- and an even softer market for restricted free agents. So it looks as if Larry Grant will return as the 49ers' primary backup to Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman on a one-year tender.Of course, the 49ers could select a tight end, too. It's not a need with a roster consisting of Vernon Davis, Delanie Walker and blocking specialist Nate Byham. But Walker's contract expires after the 2012 season, so it would make sense, too.And it would definitely make sense if it's a best-player-available situation.* * *49ers 2012 draft pickRound 1: No. 30 (No. 30 overall)Round 2: No. 30 (No. 61 overall)Round 3: No. 30 (No. 92 overall)Round 4: No. 30 (No. 125 overall)Round 5: No. 30 (No. 165 overall)Round 6: No. 30 (No. 199 overall)Round 7: No. 30 (No. 237 overall) Read more: Ranking the 49ers' draft 'wants' Tune to SportsNet Central at 6, 10:30 and midnight on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area for more on this story
Is it fair to say our biggest issue last year was having to settle for so many FGs once we got inside the 30? What is the key missing ingredient to remedy that this year? A bigger RB? A big time WR? Another big TE like fleener? Alex being more decisive? Better playcalling from harbaugh?
These & Alex being more accurate. Was warming up to the idea of drafting Doug Martin in the first round too.
So, basically we're just signing all of the players from the team that just beat us in the NFC championship game, bold strategy, but it just might work.
Well, Jacobs is unquestionably an upgrade over Dixon. We've got some nice diversity in the backfield with Gore/Hunter/Jacobs.
Yeah, and it's still not out of the question to draft a RB. Especially going into a draft with no glaring needs. I think if Harbaugh's proved anything it's that he's willing to be unconventional.
Pretty cool highlight vids that are unlisted on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gV94kJZriy0&feature=player_embedded#! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqvqK-snLaM&feature=player_embedded My basketball season is essentially over and I fucking hate baseball, so please bring the draft here ASAP.
I don't think Jacobs is a lock to make the roster and wouldn't be surprised if they took a back early, especially Doug Martin.
Yeah in a perfect world they feel confident with almost every position going into the draft. So really it comes down to how the board falls in my opinion. Even with the receivers they signed, they could see the guys they signed (Especially Moss) as short term fits. If a guy like Wright or Hill really stand out to them maybe they are the targets if they are there. That can be said for multiple positions like RB (Martin), TE (Fleener), DL (Worthy/Thompson) and S (Barron/Gilmore).
Stephen Hill is a dream pick up. Coming from a run based offense, he can block, and can make the big play when you throw him the ball. NorCalBear, that sig is fanjizztastic. Does anyone know a torrance for that Saints divisional game? I need to see that again.
You can look to see if ten yard torrance has open membership atm. I know they have torrance of that game on there
Hey 49ers169 what do you think about Jonas Gray? Assuming he is healthy (he looked really good at ND's pro day), he's another ND player that I think would be a good fit for Harbaugh's offense. He's huge (5'11" 235 lbs), but also has great top end speed and foot quickness.

The Saints playoff torrance is on pirate bay. I've downloaded a couple of things off of there. I was a member at TYT for a while, and I kopped all of the Super Bowls plus the 84 NFC Champ versus CHI and the MFN comeback against the Rams.
Thanks. I forgot to check the Bay. I was in TYT about 3 years ago, but that was before I had the storage space or reliable internet connection to have a good ratio. Now I can't get back in.
I thought so. I wouldn't mind a scenario where the Niners trade back from the first round and pick him up later, although I doubt he'd be around. If you're drafting a WR in the first round, he'd better become your leading receiver for years to come and I can't say I see Hill being that yet.
Either Zeitler or Konz. Either pick would be fine. Zeitler played G and Konz C at Wisconson, and both are seen as having the ability to play either in the NFL, something that would benefit the Niners now and in the future. That is, when Jonathon Goodwin, 33, moves on. Midwestern State G, Amini Silatolu is another option.
Agreed. I don't think he falls that far but would love a move like that if it does happen where DeCastro is there at 18/19. If not and we stay put, I think there a few possibilites. I agree I wouldn't go Hill and would much rather either go with Wright or take a shot at Jeffery. Although with Moss around, I am not sure that is the best idea. After that I wouldn't be opposed to a number of directions. I am not sure on Fleener, would be a great weapon but the stuff I saw from him on the games I had on my external aren't impressive from a blocking perspective. Which makes sense given a lot of people talking about him being overrated and noting that as the big reason why. Other than that maybe a guy like Harrison Smith to eventually replace Goldson, Martin going for BPA or maybe a guy like Worthy to help the defense even more and start learning to replace Smith in a few years. The obvious choices though are probably Konz/Zeitler if we stay at #30.
Supposedly the front office is very high on Kilgore. I can't imagine the front office liking 3 guard prospects that much where they would risk losing Snyder and simply pick one of Zeitler/Konz/DeCastro. It would require DeCastro slipping a little bit for him to be obtainable for trade unless they are willing to sell quite a bit of their draft picks to get him. Which in my opinion, isn't worth it even though I love DeCastro. I am not sure I am sold on Zeitler and Konz (Really like Konz as a center but not sure I would move him to guard) and would continue stocking the defense or choose an offensive playmaker over either and maybe go out and look at an Osemele in the second round. Might have to move up, but wouldn't be opposed to it and would like the start of that draft a bit better than going guard in the first to address a need.
I would prefer we try to address the need off of a trade. DeCastro is the only draftable OG, and I agree, he is gone by the time we draft. This is the one area I feel we took a step backwards in, and one it has taken a long time to get to a quality level. I hope you are right on Kilgore, he will be thrust into the fire.
The other potential, although I don't think the probability is that high, is taking an OT and moving Davis to guard. Would be a very pricey guard however and part of the reason I don't see it happening.
Agreed. Unless Hill drops to us, I see our first pick as a 2nd RB for Frank. Wilson would be my guess, possibly Martin. I know we got Jacobs, but I still think we need to be ready for Frank's end of career. Also our more pressing needs of OL & WR may not have a guy whose potential is high enough to be drafted in the first round. Glenn is a possibility, pure RT/OG, just not sure he falls to us.
I know, but there really isn't anybody that I want the 49ers to draft sans DeCastro. Maybe Martin or Fleener I guess
DeCastro to Pittsburgh. With the way the board is falling, want defense/Martin/Randle/Jeffery in that order.
