Clear that is what they were going after. Not necessarily small but more of a burner who can stretch the field. I would have preferred Randle but I like him better than Hill and given we have possession guys in Crabtree and Manningham, he complements the roster better.
Potentially but all depends what they thought of Jenkins compared to guys behind him. There could have been a fairly large gap.
As do I. I like Jenkins' game. As you said Niners, he can get deep, plays fast, has good hands and body control. Runs clean routes, keeps his speed out of breaks. I'd have just liked a taller receiver, someone 6'2 or taller (w/ similar speed). I like Randle, but he's a taller Michael Crabtree imo, especially w/ his 40 time from the combine being the same. However, on film he does a better job of getting behind secondaries.
Spoiler Rams miss out on JenkinsBY JIM THOMAS • [email protected] > 314-340-8197 | Posted: Friday, April 27, 2012 12:40 am| (1) comments.Font Size:Default font sizeLarger font size Illinois wide receiver A.J. (AP Photo/Seth Perlman) One of the reasons the Rams were not overly flustered about missing out on wide receivers Justin Blackmon of Oklahoma State and Michael Floyd of Notre Dame is they felt they have very good wideout options at the top of the second round. But one of the most-coveted of those options, A.J. Jenkins of the University of Illinois, was snatched away by San Francisco with the 30th pick — or third-to-last selection — of the first round. How coveted?League sources told the Post-Dispatch on Thursday afternoon that the Rams liked Jenkins so much that his grade wasn't much different than the one given Blackmon by the team's personnel department. Blackmon was the first wide receiver taken in the draft, going No. 5 to Jacksonville (which traded up with Tampa Bay for the pick.)Not only did Jenkins make a pre-draft visit to the Rams in early April, he was one of at least four players the Rams engaged in private workouts last weekend. Backup Rams quarterbacks Kellen Clemens and Tom Brandstater threw to Jenkins in Champaign, Ill. (According to the NFL, private workouts must be conducted on the player's college campus.)The Rams also conducted such workouts for Blackmon, Floyd and Baylor's Kendall Wright over the weekend, all of whom were taken in the first round. Floyd went No. 13 to Arizona, while Wright went to Tennessee at No. 20.The Rams did pick up a second-round pick for trading down with Dallas to the No. 14 spot in the first round. As a result, the Rams now have three second-round picks today for Day 2 of the draft: No. 33 overall, No. 39 overall, and No. 45 overall. After missing out on a wide receiver in the first round, and unexpectedly losing Jenkins, the Rams almost certainly have to take a wideout at No. 33 overall. The Rams' top wide receiver options in Round 2 appear to be Brian Quick of Appalachian State, Rueben Randle of Louisiana State and Chris Givens of Wake Forest.Other possible targetsThe Rams could use one of those second-round picks on an outside linebacker, with California's Mychal Kendricks, Utah State's Bobby Wagner, Nevada's James-Michael Johnson and Miami (Fla.)'s Sean Spence all still on the board. The team has only four linebackers on its current roster, and only two of those four are sure starters (James Laurinaitis and Jo-Lonn Dunbar).Offensive guard is another possibility, with Midwestern State's Amini Silatolu among the possibilities. The Rams need a starting left guard. And at cornerback, will the team take a chance on North Alabama's Janoris Jenkins, who would have been at top 15 pick were it not for off-field issues?Amendola backWide receiver Danny Amendola, who was the Rams' team leader in receptions (85) and reception yards (689) in 2010, has signed his one-year tender as a restricted free agent and will be back with the team in 2012. If we want a guard in the third I wouldn't mind taking Brandon Washington. Was always pretty impressed with him when he went up against FSU's dline.
Niners getting homerun hitters all over the field, time to start thinking about Gore's successor and he can be a second option returning kicks when Ginn eventually gets injured
Yeah, solid move if they've got a number of guys in mind. Maybe they can package that fifth rounder and do some moving in the middle rounds next year. Love the James pick. As much I love Gore, he's never been able to just pull away from people all the way down the field. The more I've heard about Jenkins and watched his tape, the more I like him as well. It's amazing what one offseason can do for you in terms of adding speed and playmaking ability to the offense.
Wouldn't mind grabbing Georgia CB/KR Brandon Boykin with the next pick, but Massie is definitely tempting as well. If you grab Massie, you could definitely commit Boone to fulltime RG without worrying so much about OT depth.
After calming down from frustration and actually thinking rationally about Jenkins, I like the pick. Solid addition and since the WR position in San Fran has been dogshit Ill take solid. Love the Lamichael pick.
I feel fine with whomever the front office wants to draft with the next pick. I think if they felt sold on anyone here they'd have drafted them four selections ago. I like the James pick. Chris Polk, a back with good size and decent speed is a guy they could've taken, but James is rare. There are only a few teams in the league with somebody with his skill set. Frank Gore probably won't be around after 2013, the Niners can take an every down back in later years.
love having 4 picks in the 4th/5th rounds time to get some big uglies on both sides of the ball here and CB of course
Yeah, I'd expect to see atleast 1 DL taken in the next two rounds, and probably an OL. Safety is going to need to be addressed sooner rather than later. Markelle Martin and George Iloka are possibilities.
went to my last class on friday, finishing up finals the week after the one coming up (dead week); glad to finally complete this BA BShhhii ;)
about 50 different ones right now bradduh, looonnnnnnnnngggggggggg story, i'll figure something out : ) how are things in broteen's world, who would have thought anger would be going before marv jones????
Going smooth, NCB. A new girl in the fold. In SoCal for work this weekend, visiting family this evening. Looking forward to it. Surprised Jones hasn't gone yet. Jag fans will eventually grow to appreciate the Anger pick in years to come.
