I like the trade a lot more since we extended him and got it for that price. Now we just have to hope the new pitching coach can get Gray back to his old good form.
Yeah I’d rather have respected the process but improving the team without trading away any top 5 prospects is huge. Doubt we finish much above .500 but maybe we’ll still be in the hunt at the end of May.
I read something on Twitter last night that said Dick Williams says they are not done going after pitching if the price is right, but any high dollar pitcher is out of the question. And like you said, I am not expecting an outstanding season, but at least we can go into this season with something to look forward to.
This pleases me. I did not want to lose Senzel or Trammell for 2-3 years of Kluber.
I may break down and go to some games this year. At least ownership is trying to improve the team, I’ve been boycotting the last 3 years.
Yeah I'll go to more games this year since they'll actually be competitive. Which is what I'm sure ownership is hoping for so they can get increased revenue from higher attendance.
Next offseason is going to be huge with how many players are on one year deals. Kemp, Puig, Scooter, Wood, Roark and Hernandez are all free agents after this season. That's $58 million coming off the books. They should be just as active next offseason as they were this year with adding new players to the team.
I wouldn't be surprised if we see some extensions during the pre-season or during season on some of these 1 year deals.
I’m just not sure how we can keep good pitchers with GABP being a launching pad. I guess with Gray playing in Yankee stadium he’s well equipped for it but I’ve always been a fan of moving the fences back.
We didn’t have any pitching issues when we actually had good players 2010-2013. Cueto and Latos were able to have good seasons pitching half their games at gabp. Even Homer, Bronson and Leake were able to put together quality seasons during that time.
The park definitely gives up its fair share of wall scraping home runs but I think people put too much blame on it. GABP has even recently been ranked outside the top 10 of hitter friendly parks, so there are other teams that have it worse then us. The franchise has never put much emphasis on developing pitching and because of that we’ve rarely had good ones. Hopefully the new people in charge will do a better job with pitching. They hired what seems to be a good pitching coach and are much more analytical then Jocketty was so I have some hope.
Yeah you make a good point, I guess outside of Cueto, latos, and Chapman we really haven’t had that great of pitching since the move to GABP.
TMB Reds outing 2019? Lol
See you in center field!
I’m an old poor that likes to sit up high down 3rd line under the canopy to block the sun and get some fresh air. Get a nice little view of the river and a beautiful ballpark from up there too.
I’ve always had it on the bucket list to splurge 1 time for my wife and I to get the diamond seats, anyone ever done it?
I really like the Cincy Bell Fioptics Deck tickets. They cost $15 but you get a $10 credit that can be used for food, drink or memorabilia. The game viewing area are a couple rows of seats and a couple rows of standing with a bar to place your drinks. They are just first come so if it's a big game you'd need to get a spot but on normal day you have your pick. The area is all the way down the 3rd base line at the top in the middle seating section. Close to the machine room grill. There's also an area you get access to that is behind the stands where you have a bar, lots of seating, cornhole and tv's.
I've sat there a couple times. The food inside before the game is pretty good and a buffet. Pasta, prime rib, sushi. Desserts are really good too. Once the game starts they take the buffet away but then from your seats you can get normal ballpark food delivered for free. All drinks are free as well including liquor so going on a weekend you can get your moneys worth. It's also really cool to sit up that close. If it's a shitty game you could sneak down to the first row when they inevitably empty out. Seeing the ball come in from that close is pretty nuts.
Yeah and even before that the last good pitcher the Reds developed was Jose Rijo. We've never had a cy young winner despite being the oldest franchise in the league. But we've at least had a ton of hall of fame hitters that got us our 5 championships.
Just not sure about this Realmuto stuff.
I don't understand why we'd give up anything of value for a 28 yr old catcher with 2 years left on his deal. I know he's really good, but unless it's a centerfielder we should only be giving our top prospects up for pitching.
Seems like ownership is making a huge push to probably win 85 games
I think if we trade any of the big 3 (trammell, senzel, Greene) I’m going back on boycotting GABP.
This off-season has had dumbass fruit man Bob written all over it. We waited too long to start the rebuilt because of him and now we’re rushing through the end of it because he’s impatient.
The one article I read mentioned India as the primary piece. If that ends up being the case I may feel less bad about it.
Yeah I’d rather give up India then any of the big three. But if we’re going to trade him I’d rather get a pitcher back.
He's a left reliever, hasn't been a starter for years. Probably didn't cost much either. I like the move. Like even more the fact they aren't shopping Senzel or Trammell.
I consider both of those last two tweets to be good news. Still not totally sure on Realmuto need but I like that they’re not willing to give up Senzel or Trammell.
Go Red Legs!!!
Should be a fun season. Hoping they can at least finish .500 and be exciting
