It's early. We are 6th in the MLB with a 3.09 ERA and that doesn't include tonight's shutout. We lead MLB with 7 quality starts. Again it's early, but it seems like we might have at least a competent staff and bullpen and we're not even at full strength.
The top three starters have been great through their first few starts. Pitching has been surprising. If this team had any pulse at the plate, they would be dangerous.
In addition to Abbott coming back we also have Lowder coming back from injury. He'll be in AAA for more starting depth. Spiers is a solid long relief or emergency starter. If Diaz ever gets it figured out he's another bullpen arm. Chase Burns is another guy who could help the bullpen towards the end of the year if we need him. Plus we have one of the best pitching coaches in the league overseeing all these guys. The hitting has always been the problem. If McLain can't stay healthy that is a huge issue. Getting Stephenson back will help some as he's at least a decent bat for the catcher position. Maybe Austin Hays can give us something when he gets healthy. We still have way too many awful hitters starting for us. This problem isn't going to be fixed unless we trade for a proven bat later this year.
Pitching ranks: WAR: 2.3, 2nd MLB ERA: 2.83, 3rd Home run/fly ball ratio: 7.6%, 4th HR/9: .86, 10th. BB/9: 2.4, 2nd K/9: 7.46, 27th WHIP: .94, 1st OBA: .185, 2nd BABIP: .213, 1st
Pitching not so great today. Didn’t get to watch most but gave up 7 unanswered to lose in the 10th on a walkoff HR. Benson with a golden sombrero but did have a nice catch in the 9th to not give them a runner in scoring position
My Hunter Greene Cy Young future at 20/1 looking quite nice. Man is ballin. He looks a lot leaner this year too
Starting pitching continues to surprise me. If Pagan can be a real closer and this team can find some hitting, this year could be interesting.
Reds' Sam Moll put on injured list with shoulder impingement Associated Press Apr 14, 2025, 02:26 PM ET CINCINNATI -- The Reds have placed left-hander Sam Moll on the 15-day injured list due to left shoulder impingement. Monday's move was made retroactive to April 11. Cincinnati begins a three-game series against Seattle on Tuesday. It is the second straight year Moll has landed on the injured list with the same injury. He missed nearly a month at the start of last season with a shoulder impingement. Moll has pitched in three games out of the bullpen and has a 3.00 ERA. His last appearance was on April 6 at Milwaukee, when he allowed three runs in two-thirds of an inning.
Rant: I cannot stand watching this through the prime app. Multiple times a game I have to exit because the sound gets out of sync and I hear the ball hit the bat or catchers glove before the pitcher even throws it.
Pagan with four saves in the last six games, and a 1.23 ERA in the year, just like everyone expected.
I literally turned it on as they were going to commercial and am confused. Sounds like all 48 people there are booing
That’s what’s so stupid about our payroll. Paying a guy market value for bullpen makes him our highest paid. Same thing with Candelario money is fine but makes 0 sense for us
He was our best starter outside of Greene last year and finished the last two months on fire with a sub 2 ERA. Biggest thing with Martinez is he's reliable and stays healthy unlike all our young pitchers. Now we do have Singer this year who is another reliable veteran who's started the year better and has a better track record then Martinez. I'd be fine moving him to the long relief/spot starter position which he seems to be best at. I just don't think the team will do that to the only guy making $20 million on the roster. Lowder will eventually be brought up because inevitably one of our starters will get hurt.
