Any of you who had your 6/7 week olds only waking up once in the night can fight me IRL. This shit is awful. Our strict schedule is helping as she is sleeping for longer chunks, but still I'm wiped the fuck out when my wife has to work (requires me to take the graveyard shift).
Got a little girl coming in November...my first one. Currently dealing with moving into a new house and pregnancy hormones. I'm sure it all gets easier from here though!
There was a poster who was an Oregon fan I think who had like 6. Haven't seen him in a long time. Had twins on the way and 2 kids of college age I believe.
Pulling single dad duty while wife is out of town this week. It's pretty easy outside of making dinner while they try and "help", which just makes it 10x more difficult/stressful
This is me 4 nights out of the week. I give the little man a spoon, butter knife, measuring cup, a ramekin with some salt, another with some pepper and a couple bowls. Then any scraps I have I give him to cook with. Generally he makes salted and peppered water basted vegetable scraps and a huge mess. Usually he's distracted enough that I can before he realizes he isn't actually "helping" with the cooking.
My 1 year old has had runny bowl movements for a week now. We've been to the pediatrician twice and they keep saying he seems 'fine' and send us home. Our biggest concern is that he just won't eat solid food anymore. He will nibble now and then, but other than that he wants nothing to do with it. He just wants boobies. We think he might be teething (1 yr molars), but are worried it could be something more serious. Any of you guys experienced something like this?
Son needs a MRI on his brain next Tuesday. Looking to rule out tumors for his eye condition he has developed. He's 18 months. They have to put him under for it. Trying not to worry about him going under.
my kid had to have surgery about a month ago when he was 11 months old. he had general anesthesia. We were nervous as hell but then we met our doctor and the pediatric anesthesiologist and asked all of our questions and it helped us calm down a lot. It was still the longest 2 hours of my life waiting to see him in the recovery room. How long will he be under?
Kop'd the Amazon Fire kids tablet. She turns 2 this summer. Anyone use ABC Mouse? Any other helpful learning apps.
That was a brutal time period with our son. He actually popped his first tooth by using my finger to press it against. That hurt like fucking hell and lead to this classic exchange in my marriage. Me: OUCH! He bit me! Wife: He doesn't have any teeth. Me: He does now!
my daughter turns 2 at the end of this month, please say a prayer for me b/c the last few months have been absolutely hell already.
thats my thought as well. he's been tugging on his ear / rubbing the side of his head for the last week or so, the entire time he's had the shits. The doc said there were no signs of an ear infection. The wife is just worried out of her mind.
Classic teeth cutting. Now teeth cutting did lead to my daughter getting ear infections at times. She cut multiple teeth at once though. Blessing to get it over with. Curse because of all the pain for her at once.
When my son was that age ABC Mouse didn't keep his attention. There are free learning apps that did better at keeping his attention. My daughter is almost 3 and she uses the free apps. I would try the free trial and go from there.
My 5 year old just had to have a circumcision(my wife's fault for not doing it when he was born) and he was put under for about 40 minutes. It was nerve racking, but it's not a big deal anymore. The hardest thing was he freaked out when he woke up.
Ultra sound went great this week until the doc breaks it that the wife is a carrier of Sanfilippo syndrome. It's recessive so if I'm not a carrier we're in the clear, if I am 25% chance baby will have it. Won't know till tests come back in like a week. Fuck waiting for this kind of stuff.
definitely so. hopefully your kid's procedure is scheduled for super early in the morning. due to anesthesia they can't eat after midnight for solid food, and up to four hours before the procedure if they have breast milk. the hardest thing for us was not letting him eat. he was 11 months and he was just freaking out at not being able to breastfeed.
It's at 9:30am for that reason. We have to be there by 8. They said he can have water when he gets up but nothing else.
I'm "that dad" and bought it when he was 1. We would just watch the movies and stuff like that. Around 2 he still didn't have the dexterity to do what he wanted so I would hold my finger out and he would direct close to what he wanted to do. Now he's 3.5 and just getting the hang of it. I don't think there's really a reason to have it before the age of 3. He really likes it now though.
I "needed" to buy a present. Wife was pushing it + sale = buy. Fact: wife gets upset when she doesnt pick it up immediately.
Also for my Husks They are having a 4h beef expo at the campus near my house. Pulled in and walked my daughter around the stalls. Just walked in. I never really did 4H, but grew up with cows. My girl loves it. I was sizing up this shit. They had some pretty heifers. Air brushing and washing them. Time to call dad and uncle to start breeding for this shit now. Also sized up the campers to see how they partied. Id blow them out in that category Edit: they have better campers but I would have the party pad.
Fuck. These are hard to read. Sending good vibes to both of you. Bruce Bowen, I have a friend whose son has Sanfilippo. Depending on how things go for you, I'm happy to try and connect you with her if you ever have questions or need someone to talk to.
I just spend the first of 10 days away from my 9 month old. Longest I've ever been away from him prior to this 3 days. I don't think I'm going to survive 10
I feel you. I am going on a 9 day trip in September that I am really excited for, but then I thought about being away from my little guy for that long and it made me really sad.
Lol just wait till 3. Same obstinence of 2, only with a more developed vocabulary and stronger will power to resist you.
So I got to go to one of the center schools this week where the kids with severe developmental conditions, behavior disorders, cognitive disabilities, etc are sent. It's getting much tougher to see kids with those conditions than it used to be now that mine is almost getting to school age. The staff at those schools and places like pediatric ICU and Oncology are saints and much stronger people that I ever think I could be.
My Tessa showed cattle for 4H when she was in HS. A lot of sweaty gross sex in the back of my parents SUV while her folks chilled at the pen or in their camper. Both sets of parents asked why I never drove my car to the shows and I lied saying I didn't want it getting stuck in some mud and felt safer taking the SUV.
so so so true. fucking heroes man. the patience, love, and compassion those people show to complete strangers every single day is something we should all aspire to be.
NICU...man. I imagined people would be hardened by years of it but that's not at all true for most. Some of those people are just amazing humans.
My wife is a float nurse to all the ICUs at a children's hospital. When she gets emotional, I just tell her to man the fuck up because it's her job to not be affected by it. edit: This is obvious sarcasm, but I only go to the "your job is way harder than mine for half the money" well when it gets real bad.
so is there some sort of weird sleep regression/separation anxiety thing at around 2.5 years? ours has always been a great sleeper, but the last two nights weve literally had to wrestle her down to get her in the crib for bed and she will hold on to us like she was being chased by a pack of animals. she eventually gives up and just whines for a bit and goes to sleep and does fine through the night, but something about the intitial getting into bed she freaks out about. not really sure what brought it on as we havent changed anything lately.
My wife is freaking out because our son didn't get the teacher she wanted him to get. His First Grade teacher is now a Third Grade teacher, and she was wonderful. But I've been trying to reassure her that the school has always done well with his placement and that perhaps the teacher he got is better for his Third Grade needs than the old teacher would be. It doesn't help that his 2 best friends are in class with the former teacher.
