It makes perfect sense, dude ctfo. Insomniac killed their first attempt at a spidey game both critically and sales wise. Murdered it. Marvel wants them to keep spitting out games and Sony owns insomniac. Marvel can allow Sony minor shit like keeping spidey exclusive to their games and Sony can keep feeding money to insomniac so they can keep pushing out a quality spidey product. It’s a huge win for both sides.
All I know is I was gonna buy the game on Xbox (3rd party platform of choice) and now I’m not gonna buy the game at all. Sony and Marvel making compromises to do what they want with Spider-Man is fine. Had no problem with the exclusive game, had a ton of fun with it and bought the dlc. Love the MCU movies. My personal gripe is Crystal Dynamics being 3rd party (although Square and Sony have a good history) and having this setup. Didn’t mind it with Bungie and Destiny because those strikes we basically out of sight out of mind. This feels different. Spider-man showed up in MUA3 on switch but I’d bet money if that had been multi plat we’d have seen something like this.
If you don’t like it then this is the way to handle it. If marvel loses money letting Sony dictate terms then they will change it up. I’m willing to bet anything that the quality of this game probably has more to do with what’s happening than anything else. If it were a game that was play tested well and looks to be a hit I’m sure marvel would tell Sony to fuck off
OK, clearly we’re not going to agree here. I just don’t think it’s very unlikely at all that Sony threw a pile of cash at marvel/crystal dynamics to get this done. Which is a strange move for a game that has had a rough dev cycle and really shitty reception so far imo. I would say the same thing if Nintendo or Microsoft made the same move, I just don’t get it here.
That’s my other point (didn’t think it was relevant to the conversation at the time) - I watched a bunch of beta play and wasn’t impressed. Granted it’s a beta but it did nothing for me.

Played 10 games tonight In fallguys (first time playing it ). Wow. It stands up to the hype in this thread. wife enjoyed playing it , although it was frustrating to watch her “forget” to jump through/over every wall. Made finals twice. 7th and 3rd.
I just fired up Fall Guys for the first time, it's pretty fun. I made it as far as the third round before I got bounced. The jumping mechanic feels a little too flighty for me but otherwise I like it.
I was watching nickmercs and co play last night. Had absolutely no clue what I was watching. Is Fall Guys co-op? Would be a great game to play with your significant other. 2 controllers at once.

Need honest opinions on something. One of the ways writers make money these days is subscription newsletters. Basically, people are too lazy for RSS feeds and news aggregators anymore, so people are sending their articles and whatever else they have to say in direct email newsletters. So i'm thinking about doing one, basically summarizing the gaming news of the week, doing some feature articles like I do on Medium, deep dives about interesting shit, etc. I was even toying with the idea of doing custom articles for subscribers, so if there's something people wanted me to talk about, an interview they wanted me to chase, etc I would do a few per quarter. There would be some free content, some just for subscribers, probably one newsletter per week. Shit idea, good idea? Would any of y'all pay for something like that, $5 per month or something? Yes/no. Basically I am ok paying for a couple of subscriptions but never for a single writer/source. It would need to be more substantial. Defector is a good example. I'd never pay for those guys individually even though I think they're great. Together is another story.
One Knight he captured my sentiment exactly. I subscribe to The Athletic and the Washington post, but I pay about $5-10 a month for those with probably 100 writers at each, its a tough value prop to paywall for a single writer unless they have a lock on a topic like Woj has on the NBA for instance. Just my two cents, hoping only good things for you in whatever avenue you decide to take.
