I can see it going either way. Seems MS is getting back to being a software company (which is their strength) so it's definitely possible it's just a timed exclusive or they are just on game pass day 1 which gives that a lot of value Either way, PC is the only way to play Bethesda games since you need to mod the shit out of them to fix the shit Bethesda didn't so that's where I'll play them anyway.
guarantee Xbox will have day one mod support in ES6 Not the same obviously but certainly not the end of the world
Maybe but you are still far more limited when you can't run a script extender. Consoles can only do basic mods. Some of the mods people come up with are complete game changers. Like Sim Civilizations or whatever it was called for FO4.
This is all about getting top shelf games on Gamepass, day one of release. Microsoft wants Xbox to be the Netflix of gaming. They still get paid if someone buys Elder Scrolls for PS5 so I don't see them completely enforcing exclusivity. They may just do timed exclusives and day-one gamepass access
This needs to be stressed. I don't see the benefits of historical gaming norms such as timed exclusives. Netflix doesn't have timed exclusives with their originals. They live there in perpetuity. The goal is to always have clear exclusive differences to bring people into the ecosystem no matter when they make their decision whether it is in 2021 or 2024. The exclusives should be consistent so that person makes the decision based on that and not what was exclusive back in 2022. Now with Netflix, they also buy the rights to many many non-exclusive movies (for example) so users don't feel like they are missing anything or are missing an acceptable amount of things. So big AAA movies that end up on Netflix..compare that to an EA or Activision. But their owned studios they need to keep all of their content in-house. The only exception I see would be Nintendo where the form factor (ie. Portable/handheld gaming) is different enough to offer it there. But not to PS5 just like Netflix doesn't send its originals to Amazon.
That's true, but I think MS is willing to allow a game they own to appear on PS5 (though only after a window of time) because in the end they're not in the game business, but the money business. As long as they have a big number of steady subscribers to Gamepass they will be happy. They can let the next DOOM game appear on PS5 a year after it releases on Gamepass because by then, the next Elder Scrolls will release on Gamepass, etc. That, I think, is their business strategy. Nintendo, as you say, is a different ball game entirely. I think MS will continue to have a good relationship with them because they want to attract the Nintendo-only console gamers into making the Xbox a second system to own. The $300 Series S is basically perfect for that.
well...the game business is their money business I just don't see this happening as the all-in approach to what has been successful for Netflix. The path to more money isn't temporary sales on another platform - it's getting more and more people committed to their platform. Netflix doesn't send it's exclusives out the door once the new ones come in. Just compare that example and you may have a good idea at what their business model is. you don't pay what they just paid for just some timed exclusives.
I think you’re correct, quote from Phil Spencer to Bloomberg: In an interview with Bloomberg, Spencer said that upcoming Bethesda games like its single-player sci-fi RPG Starfield will come to Xbox, PC, and Game Pass. Whether it will also still come to PS5 is now less than certain. “We’ll take other consoles on a case-by-case basis,” Spencer told Bloomberg
Yeah it's just how the Netflix model would be more in play. I could be wrong and they can try some sort of hybrid but personal opinion, I think that's the wrong move. You need to be all-in with exclusivity with a (hugely expensive) play like this. It will be a shock to the consumer at first but will become normal.
Don't care, will have both. If having both consoles is the price for higher quality IP content, I’ll manage.
I love Skyrim and all but after FO76 I’m going to pump the brakes on buying anything from Bethesda until they prove they still have what it takes
By the time whatever Bethesda is doing releases it shouldn't be an issue to get either I would think.
I had fun with FO4 but it wasnt a cant miss game in any sense. Skyrim about the same. Id buy a new ES and would be sorta bummed out if i couldnt, but then again i dont expect it to be a top 10 game.
Doom is really fucking good. Wolfenstein games have been very good. Single player Elder scrolls are consistently great games. Fallout single player games are still very good to great. Starfield is something I think people are anticipating will be great. It’s probably the biggest move outside of buying a tale two that Microsoft or Sony could make.
Wolfenstein didnt draw me in. I dunno just wasn't for me. I didn't like the style of Dishonored. That game was annoying to me and I stopped after a couple of hours. Doom is awesome though. That game is fun as hell and I haven't even played the more recent one yet.
Most recent Bethesda Publishing games haven't been my thing. But I do acknowledge it's a big move for MS.
When I started barreling through the latter half of Skyrim I realized that maybe BGS games aren’t my thing anymore. Adored Morrowind, Oblivion, FO3 and NV but Skyrim started a trend where those games felt less exciting to explore for me. this is still a huge deal for MS and BGS has an installed fanbase that will ride or die. I just think most of those fans are already on Xbox and PC anyway. The addition of those games to game pass seems like a natural transition
I just wanted to make sure I was getting the right one. It seemed too cheap. I think the last one I played was the original one or the second one on PS2? Maybe.
Sorry man, just saw this. I'm real hesitant on using it because it's tied to my email and account. I don't want something to happen and they cancel my other preorder because they think I gamed the system somehow
I'm with you on Doom and Wolfenstein (haven't played it, but it looks really good) but pump the brakes on Skyrim and Fallout. The last good ones from them in the series were in 06 and 08 for either. We can even bump it to 11 if you want to include skyrim in that, which I absolutely do not think it should be.
I mean I played the shit out of skyrim just because of the sheer scale of it but lets be honest, it like all other TES games had one of the worst combat systems of any rpg franchise ever.
They weren’t perfect games but fallout four and Skyrim are both still great games, and undeniably console sellers as well.
Throw everything (sans kratos) out of the window from what you remember of those games. This is new, different and better. The only complaint I ever see is that people felt it could be longer. I think I plat it at 50ish hours on the next hardest difficulty and absolutely adored it from beginning to end. It’s probably the best mix of fantasy narrative and gameplay that’s ever been made.
As someone who loves crazy long games I actually think the length was about right. Any longer and I'm not sure the story would have been as good.
Oblivion and Morrowind>>>Skyrim. That being said, I'd be thrilled to have a Skyrim quality ES game release. 0% chance they make it console exclusive for the modding reason already mentioned, though. I went down the rabbithole of Skyrim/Oblivion modding a few months back at the start of quarantine and the size and depth of that community is insane. People are still daily making major overhauls for it and creating fresh storylines in an almost 10 and 16 year old game.
GamesRadar+: The original Metal Gear Solid is reportedly getting a PS5-exclusive remake. https://www.gamesradar.com/the-orig...is-reportedly-getting-a-ps5-exclusive-remake/
Did you ever play Elder Scrolls online? I haven't, but am thinking about trying it after (currently) playing Kingdoms of Amalur.
Don’t unless you’re the kind of person who likes paying for extra shit It’s fun and they definitely created a cool world but it’s to the point now where even finding crafting material to make a simple bed or table for a player home is rigged to make you give up the search and just pay for the shit instead
