Yeah I would be getting the new show or new PGA. Just looking for a casual sports game. I don't do a lot of online play and I know that's a big component of the show lately. But I enjoy RTTS. PGA would be a nice relaxing break and it's easy to play with friends having only one controller, but as said here, it hasn't been great lately but the new one looks to have a lot of updates.
One of the best games of the last ten years.
Slay the Spire is a great deck building rogue like that’s a blast. Easy to pick up and play a run through. Really challenging game to master but it’s wonderful.
Watched the EA official gameplay trailer, and it got me. They're bringing back boost, spin, and heartbeat from the old TW games. Controls look more intuitive than 2K. But what really got me stoked is they actually went out and captured their own LiDAR data from slow flying helicopters to get much more detailed terrain data for the courses in the game. I've built a few courses using public LiDAR in TGC for sim golf, and it's really close already. Putts will often break just like they do in real life, but it can sometimes be just a smidge off. Having the courses feel even more like their real life counterparts is cool thing. It'd be even cooler if they'd share that publicly, so we could update builds in the sim world, but that'll never happen.
Hopefully, it all adds up to something fun. It's been a long time since I've truly loved a golf title. I still break out the Wii version of Tiger, because it was and is still probably the most fun console/pc golf experience imo.
I’d wait for EA golf game for sure at this point.
The 2K one is cool with the course creator but the gameplay is kind of janky.
Mannn this looks cool to me
I just posted this in the game thread but to those interested in the new EA PGA Tour game, you can get one month of EA Play for $1 until the end of March. This will include a 10 hour trial of the game starting on the 4th so if you're on the fence then it'll be worth going this route given EA's shittiness. Plus if you end up buying it you get 10% off.
I also downloaded Madden 23 since I just got EA Play and haven't played it in on PS5, and I still can't believe how awful it is even after reading reviews and message boards/reddit.
Haven’t played PGA 2K23 yet, EA PGA Tour feels and looks better than other previous 2K titles so far. I absolutely suck though. 88 on my first round out at Augusta on tour difficulty.
I can't figure out the swing mechanics yet. Presentation blows 2K away though.
After spending a few hours on it last night, I figured out the swing finally -- and feel like an idiot. Haptic feedback lets you know when you're taking it back off plane, so you basically have to trial and error until you get the feel for what the correct plane is, which also varies based on shot type, lie, etc. The downswing is different than other analog stick swings I've played. It seems to like more of a flick rather than smoothly moving the stick forward and pinning it to a position if that makes sense.
- You can't restart Career Mode, at least at the Amateur level. When I didn't have control of my character, he played like shit in the US Am, so I didn't qualify for the Masters or US Open, which is lame.
- The game feels slow due to the cut scenes and animations. Auto tap-in is painful. Faster to just tap it in yourself. I do enjoy that it's not completely rapid fire and feels a bit more like the pace of golf, but it can feel like a drag at times
- Pro character models are laughably bad. I almost feel bad for the people in the game (except the LIV players)
- No glasses. WTF
- Played Quick Mode match play against the CPU. It kept assigning the CPU wins when I would win a hole lol, and I lost the match
- There is a lot of information to take in after a shot, but it disappears before you can really check it all out. In my sim (TGC 2019), I can tap a key to see that info before I play my next shot. If there is a mechanic for that in this game, I don't know how to do it
- No turn order online, apparently
- Stroke only online, apparently
- ** I assume much of the above will be addressed in updates with the exception of the grotesque character models. Not sure what they can to there this late in the process
- I'm enjoying the actual gameplay the more I play. I like the different shot types (and unlocking them), ball physics, and differences in the way the courses play
- The various challenges are kinda fun and work as a good way to get better at various aspects of the game and understanding shot types
- Improving feels rewarding
- Fun presentation overall
- Graphics are good... with the caveat that I expected a little better out of next gen
Ultimately, I'm not sure whether I want to try to actually get good at this and play online tournaments on occasion as the way I "enjoy" this game or just switch everything over to Arcade + Boost + Spin to just have a fun way to kill some time when I'm bored. Don't regret the purchase at all though and will keep grinding away for the time being
That game just might actually never come out imo
I pray for the day I see news that this game and Skull & Bones have been cancelled
Duke Nukem Forever route
I'd be fine with that.
Don’t disagree at all, it looks baaaaaad
I did the free trial and overall I think it’s good but the default setting have more things and graphics and metrics in the screen then I would expect from some space flight simulator. Seems like overkill.
Do I need to play the past Star Wars Jedi game to like the new one?
Also if you like escape room and puzzle games check out Escape Academy
I would but probably not totally necessary if you're just ready to jump into next gen Star Wars. I did play it on PS5 and the upgrade is impressive. IGN has a 12 minute video that recaps the story from the last game. I'll be watching that before I play Survivor.
Review embargo lifted a few hours ago and most are very positive.
Looks like Mech Returnal. Easily day 1 for me
Sometimes I have good opinions, but I did find a few bad ones while scrolling through this thread.
Odin I'm willing to admit you were right about file sizes. I thought they were going to get bigger, but I was way off.
microsoft are ready to be done making consoles and don't care if people buy them. all that matters is getting more gamepass subs regardless of what device someone is using to play games.
They aren't making money with Game Pass though so not sure what the end game is there.
It’s simple. I’m a trend setter and this is the first time I didn’t buy an Xbox so obviously that was the death nail.
Patientbear for Legacy in about an hour on poor man PS4
It's an awesome game.
That’s what I’ve heard and stoked. One of the OG Harry Potter geeks who waited at bookstores at midnight for 4-7 and never thought we’d get a game like this. Got the Deluxe Edition for when I finally bite the bullet and get a PS5, so I’m hoping there’s plenty of replay value and I’ve heard that’s the case.
Just exploring the castle is amazing. So much detail.
Enjoy dude! Hearing it is actually pretty well optimized for PS4 as well, great game, can't wait to get back to it once I finish Jedi Survivor
I, too, made the switch this generation.
Imagine not hitching your wagon to Playstation back in the PSX days. NERDS.
not really a switch for me because I’d always buy both systems this is just the first time I didn’t have the ability to buy both so I went PS.
imagine not having both PLEBS.
I used to buy both but when looking at it this time I could find a single reason to buy an Xbox. Didn't feel like I was missing out on anything by not having one.
I also had ps3 and Nintendo systems but for the sake of this argument just going with primary console.
I bought a 360 also and only played halo 4 (or maybe it was 5) on it. Never again.
After the red ring of death incident on 360 I pretty much gave up on them.
I got the Series X just to have one, even tho I’ve got a PS5 and a nice PC. Was a pretty pointless purchase. I have used it like 5 times, and that was only to play with my HS buddies.
Sony 4 Life
I’ll get an XBox for ES6 and the next Fallout, but that’s probably it.
Playstation 4 lyfe
This is me except sub PS3 for the 360, I never dabbled in the X Box
