Kornheiser has been bragging about going to bed early and not watching games for 20 years on PTI. Wilbon screams down any sports idea that wasn't around when he was a child. They're entertaining together and I used to watch their show daily, but it's not smart sports analysis and never has been. They have opinions that matter on the major stories everyone cares about because they're smart people with tons of experience (and they actually follow those stories), but that's about it. Simmons made his name crushing people like that in the sports media. Then he became friends with them, and he's turned into the exact thing he despised when he was coming up.
the more Simmons has talked about his time at the newspaper(s) in Boston it's clear that his issues were less about the content/acumen of the old guard in media and more that they had the audacity to not get out of the way and let mid-20s Bill have the keys to the castle
Opinions does not equal analysis. PTI is an opinion show not an analysis show. Bill gets in trouble more for trying to present things like the book of basketball as analysis when it’s his opinion. I find TK entertaining but he’s watching the 6am sports center to catch up on the nightly headlines.
countdown to "You know, you watch these hits and how bad the league is at actually caring about concussions, and I just can't follow the sport in good faith anymore..."
Sneaking suspicion Kyle doesn’t know anything about sports. Also, Derrick Henry was the weekends MVP, Bill. Remember him? Sal and Bill: all the coaches sucked. Buffalo should’ve gotten a td against them on that kick off. Yikes.
Within 30 seconds bill said Brady should get out now because no one wants to see him look like manning that last year in Denver, then turns around and says a few years down the road no one will remember the bad ending so it doesn’t matter.
Manning won a Super Bowl his last year looking like shit while Bill campaigned that Osweiler was the future.
it eats at him so bad that Brady isn't this universally revered/beloved figure like Michael Jordan was
I was at a bar (nbd) during the end of their game and I’ve never seen so many people with no rooting interest that happy to see a team lose.
Chris Long nearly talked some serious shit about Josina Anderson, and I’m really curious if what it sounded like he was hinting at was what he was actually hinting at. He was rightly complaining about how she was all over Wentz for getting a concussion, and connecting his concussion to his regular health issues. He said something like, “Josina Anderson... I’m not even gonna say anything, let’s just say I know some things about Josina Anderson.” Was a really interesting moment that they just flew past.
Yeah that jumped out at me too, he also said something like “everyone knows the deal when she walks in the locker room...”
Implication is either that she’s a cleat chaser or drops stuff in people think is off the record on a regular basis, neither of which is obviously good.
not sure if this is what it's about but she's cited "anonymous locker room sources" talking shit on Wentz in the past.
pats fans put up this front about how they thrive off the hate and love it yet they are big time "please like my team" people. simmons especially
I wrote Long off after the first week because he was a little nervous and kept repeating himself, but he has really come around. This most recent pod was awesome.
This is me too. Would slide Russillo's pods down in the rotations on Mondays but by mid-October or so, they would become an instant listen when they went up.
Bill said the Unstoppable pod will come out late Wednesday. I havent seen the movie. Debating watching it or just skipping the pod. Movie doesnt really interest me.
Unstoppable? That movie sucks. The production company leased family land to shoot that shit. Mostly used for Denzel's helicopter trips. That depressing scenery was where I grew up.
Tarantino wanted to do it because it was Tony Scott's last movie. I dont get it either. Had to look up what it was even about.
I loved the movie Dunkrik but didnt think it was the best Rewatcheable movie to do on the pod. I hope they do a crowd pleaser as well.
really liked the unstoppable rewatchable. kind of like that it's a movie that i'm not that familiar with so i go in with low expectations. even simmons was fine on it though he does make a handful of nba references. it's like 40% unstoppable/30% tony scott/30% just general shit and it's good that way
i've never seen King of New York, the last of the three QT rewatchables. will need to watch over the weekend.
Really pissed me off. He is like "Oh I watched it again and I get it now". What was there not to get? For me Goodfellas, Casino, etc are some of my favorite movies. Getting another chance to hang with Pacino, Pesci and DeNiro is amazing. Regardless whether it was too long or if DeNiro was too old for his part you still have to be happy that this movie exists.
Had you seen the movie prior to listening? I have never seen the movie and I doint really care to see it but I was wondering if I should still take a listen.
You should. Podcast is good, even if you never saw the movie. I only saw the movie once and it was kind of meh to me but QT tells a couple of cool stories and breaks down some directing tidbits that are quite interesting IMO. Worth a listen for sure.
